Thought Id have a look and see what's about and can only see the £80k one at NJ's.
Can only be a good thing.
I was going to sell up but that seems to be a very silly idea.

Amazing. I guess the time of year has something to do with it. I am thinking of selling mine and my NSX to fund a 599 GTB. I really need to test drive the Ferrari to see if I like it first. Sellers market for sure.

Been thinking about this. Even if the cars for sale is as before, with an increased demand and the feeling that buyers can't hang around, if they sell faster, there will seem less cars for sale as instead of being on PH classifieds for 4 weeks, they will be there for 7 days. So unless prices rise to a point where either demand drops OR. sale time increases at least, there will seem like less for sale even though there may even be more moving around the market.
Trouble is WHATEVER you sell it for, 95% chance that you will sit down in 6 months and cry uncontrollably as you'd wish (probably forever) that you'd kept it. Now that prices are rising everybody has the excuse why to keep and not to sell.

A good way to have cars you don't actually have for sale listed as pushing the prices up...

All you have to do is look at the way the RS500 and E30 M3 Evo prices have gone to realise you are deluding yourself (£100k). It won't be too many years before the CSL goes the same way, especially as more cars leave the country.... There are only just over 200 UK cars left out of the original 422....

10 years from now any CSL will not be exchanging hands for anything south of 60K(£).

The thing about the CSL is that when you scratch your head and ask yourself what the next logical step up is, the answer inevitably ends up being a GT3 or Even GT3 RS. The Renault Trophy series or JCW Minis just don't cut it so GT3 it is. Trouble is, GT3s are around double the price of a good CSL and that probably is a leap too far for the majority of CSL owners. The CSL has it's niche.
Even if GT3 prices slump a little there will remain a band of buyers that can stretch to a £40K toy but not an £80K toy. It's these buyers who will push values up.
All of the above being said the CSL is an old car now and there are plenty of people who will be put off with this. Owning and running a 13 year old car comes with it's own set of challenges and plenty of people won't entertain doing any sort of DIY. This aspect will shrink the pool of potential buyers.
I'm starting to ramble now.
All I know is that the couple who were camping next to us at Le Mans remarked on how many people had doubled back to have a squint around the CSL over the weekend. 13 years on they obviously still draw attention.

Mr S sold the car with 63,500, it then moved from Merseyside to down South with GP Cars in Hertfordshire, who advertised the car reading 64,000, now advertised by the current owner in Somerset at 64,500.
Each sale has increased not only the mileage but also the asking price, 5K in 6 months isn't to be sniffed at ;)

Your last paragraph says it all. The E46 CSL is soon to join the top step with the E9 & E30. "Soon" being the next decade.

If you do the maths on the mileage eg. Merseyside to Hertfordshire is approx 200mls, so it did 300mls whilst in GP Cars care.
Similarly the chap now selling in North Somerset probably picked it up and drove it home, approx 170mls so again very little use.

some people like the torque of a big V8 , or a turbo unit ... press the throttle at any revs and away you go , makes overtaking easy & lazy
I like that in my diesel ;)
For others like myself, I prefer an engine that is reletavily peaky and needs to be worked to get the best from it .. my 1973 2.4S is a prime example of this as it doesn't come on cam until 5500 rpm amd then it flys

The owner has the car back at the moment so think we are arranging the viewing around West London / Berkshire. I'm pretty certain I want a grey CSL and will buy on condition and reasonable price, which is a little off kilter with the one NJ has on offer. Does he as a dealer have a good rep? Are there others I should contact? Probably a private sale is the better option and have bought most of my best cars privately in the past!

FYI... be aware that 18K mile no option CSL had the Running In service at 400 miles from new which is way too early so may have not been run in properly + it's scheduled services are beyond the BMW recommended 2 year intervals. Also check the front wings/lower door edges right to the edge and inside the wheel arch to make sure there are no stone chips developing into blisters.

NJ is a csl enthusiast who has been selling csl's for nigh on ten years. I bought a SG CSL off him in 2007 long before the iconic status the csl now owns. The available csl market has dropped off massively of late thus reducing his quantity of available stock.

A bit like Marimite ;) Some swear by him... other swear about him ;) :hahaha:
Yep Private sale/buy is best... directly from a known, long term owner (ideally on here) who's cherished their Cecil through out and knows it inside out
The problem is demand outstrips supply, there are none FOR SALE right now on here and when they do appear F.S. on CSLR they usually sell very quickly.
Tread carefully as low mileage CSL isn't necessarily the best CSL.

Watch out for the Sapphire Black Cesils...a little off the pace compared to the Silver Grey thoroughbreds!!!! :blalalala:
Very true. The black cars absorb more heat into the paint which can make them up to 10kg heavier, which is why they're often slower. The extra heat also affects the boundary layer at higher speeds which dramatically increases the aerodynamic drag and coefficient of friction.

Thanks for your responses, advice and insights to the market of what to look out for! Agree though, with such a small sample of available cars on the market, it's best to be ready when a good one appears. As Shaw Taylor said - 'Keep em peeled!' If your a kid of the 70's you know what I mean:birdman:
I am and I do.

Barty
should you find a csl worthy of a viewing, take the car to Bartlett's in Huntingdon for Gareth to inspect. If it gets a clean bill of health rest assured you're onto a great example. The best £150 you'll spend pre-purchase.
Well, was around in the 70's
Unfortunately was no longer a kid though

Brian surely the csl is winding a few years off the biological clock!!
By the way CSL is still @ Bart's; 9 weeks on Saturday.
It'll be there on Monday so no peeking as your modding vow is creeking at the seams!!
;)
Biological clock is sitting at 62, mental one at 25.
Might be tempted to have a quick peek, I mean, I'm there all day so need something to do

Thanks for that nugget of advice, unfortunately I know nothing on CSL other than 'I like it, a lot', so that will be so useful. My specialist area and most of my friends is an alternative German whips to the BMW!

Both have APs as well (on the front at least).
Emailed the guy with the one in Portugal he is in no hurry to sell it he said .
Sounds like a nice car.
The other one at Ayrton has been around for a while reducing the price once so far.
