can't find any information on the CSL clutch wear. anyone had one replaced? how long do they tend to last and what tell tales signs indicate that it could be on its way out?
it is just like any other semi automatic like the fez and start slipping etc?

ummm mine seems to lag when pushing hard, especially into 2nd gear.
how can you get a clutch done under warranty?? thats a first for warranty to cover clutches?

its covered if you have a full warranty ... the first one I said it needed it , the second one they suggested it !!
Sytner are good tho , in my experience as long as you dont take the piss and get silly things changed all the time ..like door trims etc ...
If its slipping , simple , book it in and tell them , should be no issue

Yeah, book it in if you have warranty. Had mine changed at 36,000 miles. It was slurring/slipping on change up. Clutch was not worn out after inspection. They said a compensating component was faulty, so changed that, clutch and flywheel all under warranty.
I use Cotswold Cheltenham and have had good service so far.

I will be asking to get mine done soon as it feels quite bad. Only 23K on the clock though
When I am drving it and take the rpm to about 6k,change up and I seem to get this slurr before it seems to grip but doesn't feel as bad if I take it to the redline (if that makes sense)
All CSL SMG will slip if you change at 6k and dont lift off the throttle!

As above. Its normal.
I noticed this too. what is the reason for the slip at certain revs ?

Really? Hope mine is worse than most and a new clutch does stop it a bit.

thanks for all the comments, will get it back out on the road and test it again. could of been the traction control cutting in i guess as it was damp/wet when it happened

No idea. Talked about it for five years. Chances are it's initially a software error, but BMW never provided a solution so we're stuck with. Maybe the software not taking into account 'normal usage wear' properly. Then of course if you keep allowed it to slip then you're compounding the problem.
That's the best 'guess' anyway.
Bottom line is it's pretty pants how we never got a permy solution :banghead:
Yes sure is! I always lift a little on gear changes but when going out for a blast sport on S6 and foot to the floor and never lift and its fine! :-D

The trick is NOT to lift on changes. If you do, the self learn element of the software gets used to relaxed changes and slurring gets worse.
I use the box in S1 to warm up and keep and even throttle on changes up the box. When the engine oil is up to temp I move to the desired mode for my drive (usually S6  ). Then, either full throttle shifts or, at mid rev up-shifts just keep an even throttle. Definately no lifting. The change on mine stays very sharp with this treatment.

^^^^^^^^ as AlexGTT says, even when not gunning it - don't lift. :smt023
there's a lot to learning this SMG gearbox. I'll try what you suggest Alex
I usually use S3, but sometimes 4/5 is better. will try the technique of warming up in 1 then switching.

Really useful info guys , I dont lift , and mines fine all the time , but been told (and ignored them) ! :smt047 to lift always.
Mate of mine does lift and is having issues with his so makes sense reading this ... just winding him up telling him he cant drive properly :hahaha:

I've never lifted on shifts.
I'm not even sure it actually "adapts" to driving style in sequential mode, or if that's another forum myth..(?)
The regular M3 SMG doesn't start slurring like the CSL one does, even if you drive like grandma.

Just stop driving like girls and give the poor thing some death!
I think i put my message across wrong. I dont lift off the pedal in any setting S1 or S6 but i would never flat shift in S1-S4 as the clutch seems to then slip!

It's basically just a pile of shit and should have been fixed by BMW five years ago!
Bottom line.

It'll do that Simon. You need to keep it planted so the car learns you want it that way. It will slip for a bit to start with (and I know its not easy to make yourself do it) but its what needs to be done to get them nice a crisp.
After Knockhill, S1 changed sharper than S6 did with road driving
Ive found if Ive just had the car in and out of the garage a few times, but never driven it, it reverts back to being slippy.
Always ask Elliot to say how it is! :-D
Very true!

Just reread this thread, what's not clear is how do you check for clutch wear?
On the flat shift thing, the hand book says keep the throttle flat on changes....
Wrong place I know but has anyone used Jepsons - Swindon for wheel refurb?
