View Full Version : Best laid plans etc etc
As per the footer at the end of my posts, I'm not going to mod cesil, I have no plans to mod cesil, definitely keeping it standard.
Already have a highly modified car with the GP, no need for another!
So,
Tuesday morning I'll be ordering a set of AP brakes for both front and rear
Going for the black calipers as, IMHO, I think the red looks a bit bright. Have red ones on the GP and quite often wish I'd gone for black.
Onto backboxes, unsure whether or not to do. If it got changed do I go for normal SuperSprint or Lightweight race? :banghead:
Scared of making it sound a bit too noisy, have the GP if I wish to numb my ear drums.
Like the idea of sharpening the tone up a little without trying to scare old women and their dogs.
Hopefully might have a selection to listen to on the 1st June

Save your money buying the back ones not needed but get suspension instead
I know what you mean ref the rears, I appreciate they'll be just for show.
However, one thing that pee's me of on the GP is the mis-match of the front and rear brakes but there is sod all I can do about it. AP don't do anything for Mini rear brakes.
I can guarantee it'd bug me on cesil so doing the lot.
Suspension? Not saying much on that currently, playing politics with the LHSM
If the oem kit gave up the ghost then it would be replaced with coils, until then it can stay.
Then again, I said that about the brakes.

Brakes: look better but £
Exhaust: supersprint drone, titanium is the only way to go, I've had 5 different exhausts
Less cars go on track now so I would stick OEM if you haven't forked out any £££

Cheers bud.
I know the brakes are ££ but, we have to spend our hard earned on something. Birds and booze wouldn't get too good a reception at home
Also, very wary on a droney exhaust. Said earlier somewhere that making a mistake on a Mini exhaust is relatively easy to solve whereas on cesil the cost of said boo boo could be eye watering.
Which exhaust are you running currently?

AP's all round - first class decision
Colour - Black is the colour - discretion on the looks
I have Red after 2 years of running black, just fancied a change and the black rims option does compliment the post box calipers.
SS lightweight race BB is the peoples choice, super sound, welding looks a little friday afternoon.
Titanium BB are very high quality but pricey.
If money is no option then Dixis,Gruppem are the Titanium front runners.
Silverstone will give you a broad overview of exhaust notes.
SS Lightweight BB will be in abundance!!
Pax rides will be available.

I've got a one off titanium hand made thing, not as loud as a ss , half the weight and zero drone.
SS is a great sound but the drone got to me :bigcry:

Agreed. Drone can send occupants a bit mad.
Just had a look at the price of a gruppe m.
Won't be having one of those

Just fitted a JIC Cross, perfect sound, zero drone and 7.7kg weight. If you can find one, go for it,

Pops I'll be at silverstone, my car has all the goodies you're after, ap brakes (new discs/rs29 front and rear) will be used at silly though. Braille Titanium back box, intrax 1k2 and 18" apex wheels.
All parts being removed for sale after silverstone. Putting her back to standard:smt055

Thanks for that bud.
Whilst appreciating that I could possibly save some cash, for brakes I'd prefer new kit, it's just my way.
Definitely interested in listening to different back boxes though.
Why are you going back to standard?

Sharing a race car with shimmy.
Racing takes the fun out of track days but will still do the odd one or two for the social side.

Race car, now that sounds an interesting project.
So, where / who would be the best to order the brakes from?
Will be looking for a full AP kit in black.
Noted that the rear calipers use the oem rear disc which will mean fronts will be grooved and rears will be drilled, that isn't going to happen so will also order replacement AP rear discs.
Costly maybe but the advantage being I'll have a 100% matched set up with a 100% matched oem set up in a box that can either be sold as a whole separately or stashed until the car gets sold.
Asking as with being newish here I don't know who is who when it comes to ordering stuff.

The problem of rear ap discs is they are all iron.
Heavier than the originals as the originals have aluminium center hub.
I had front grooved and rear drilled. I have now too :)

Going to speak to him tomorrow. Short comms this evening and he knows what I'm after.
Had a look at his website, maybe wasn't a good idea, those Brembo GT kits look nice!
All sorted.
Now just a case of trying to be patient

I could say no.
I could be wrong.
