Heard nothing but good things about them.

That would my (all of us) ideal plan, but don't have the room to store a 2nd set of wheels.... :bigcry:

I used to have a spare set (for a previous car) in the shed, but the shed got filled when I cleared the garage out so I could get the CSL in.

There is always the nursery I suppose

I decided to try running these on my lowly M3 as I hardly ever use it now, other that to go to trackdays, and I plan on having a set of track-only wheels & tyres for those. Unfortunately I had to use them, brand new, at my last track day and I found them brilliant once warmed up! Much better than the Conti's I used at the previous trackday IMHO.

But then again, they're only fitted to a non-CSL M3 doing a pathetic 2m28s at Oulton...

windy - you really must stop putting yourself and your car down - you seem to begin most of your posts like that!

A 'normal' M3 is still a good car! :hahaha:

Glendog, I'm just recognising to the CSL-is-god attitude I got from a few people when I first joined up to this place...

Haha, no Daz, as much as I have respect for the CSL, it's just not what I'm after. If I decide to take the track days thing more seriously I'll strip an M3 like you have, though it's more than likely I'll get a cheap[ish] E36 for that and give the M3 to the missus, though she says she'll chop it in against a 997 C2S if I do... no complaints there!

Personally, I bloody :smt055 my M3

I Have cups on the front but 2 different types of tyres on the rear. Ones A Falkon and ones a Pirelli. Will this badly affect the handling do you think?

It'll be fine if your driving like a girl, but honestly - do you want one side of the car reacting different from then other?

Id ebay the old tyre and get it matching on the same axle.

Matt,

That isn't good. Mixing cups with other tyres isn't a good idea, and mixing models/makes across an axle isn't a good idea either. You'll be okay if you drive like the poverbial Miss Daisy but don't track it or do anything on the road with any spirit until you have sorted it. What tyre tread depths do have left all 'round?

On the Falken note, I have the 452's on at the moment and have had them on or about 8K including a Track day around Knockhill. On track they are a very good tyre, but do get too hot very quickly and start giving in. Progressive, not sudden whatsoever so you've plenty of heads up before you might you'll swap ends soon. They've lasted well IMHO.

Cups on the front with 'Normal' road tyres on the rear? I can't imagine that is good at all, serious front end grip in the dry but wobbly ass??? Sounds like a girl I used to know!

I am using these Falkens at the moment and i really rate them.

I have done about 6 trackdays in them and about 8,000 miles on them and they are still going strong.

To be honest i haven't found them to be to bad after a long sessions on track.

I regularly get carried away and spent 30mins on track at a time and yes i can feel them moving around a bit but i am still managing to do 1:22 sec round Snetterton at the end of a 30 min session.

But i know there are better track tyres out there so.

I am about to put some Cups on and leave them on all summer as Shimmy does.

I will put the falkens back on in the colder months.

Nords they have quite good tread on both the rear tyres. Almost but not quite new. Bit worried now cos im doing a track day at Oulton a week on saturday. Cant afford to get another tyre. I have had the punctured one repaired and kept as a spare so could get it fitted back on for the track day so the rears match but the garage said he shouldnt have really repaired it as it was right near the edge of the tyre...

If they shouldnt have, they wouldnt have ;) How far in from the edge was it?

Id stick the repaird one back on to keep them matching, a 'plugged' tyre is apparently sound. Worst case, it'll lose some pressure.

I pressume you went falken to save some dosh? For another £50 Id have got them matching.

They gave it me for £40. Was in good condition. Suppose it will keep as an emergency spare!

Matt, I really wouldn't track it with cups on the front and road tyres on the back. You'll warm the front up and start to get really good turn in and grip through the turn and the rears will start to overheat and as you ease the power on, it will bite. The fact that the rears have different characteristics is going to make that worse. If you are paying out for the trackday, the petrol for the track and to get there, the trackday insurance (?) it really is a false economy to skimp on the tyres...

Just think how sad you'd be if it spits you off into the tyre barrier! Yes it is a light car, but a CSL places a significant demand though it's tyres...
