Duck egg question alert!!

Apart from weight, what's the advantage with a SuperSprint back box?

Does it turn the car into something that growls along?

I know only too well from the GP that it's easy to end up with a sound that's not what's expected and is disappointing. The only advantage of getting it wrong in the Mini world is that it isn't as expensive!

I wouldn't worry about the weight - as Shim says, just drive faster!

They sound absolutely epic but not so much as to impact on enjoyment of the car. The slight upsweep on the tailpipe looks good too !

Thank you,

Not bothered at all re weight, just wondered why they were so highly rated.

Improving the sound without it becoming a pain sounds like the answer I was after

Too easy on car to end up with something that drones more than the other half.

CSLSuperfan has one on, full system - he's your man but watch out he doesn't infect you with chronic Upgraditus or Black Wheel Syndrome . . . :hahaha:

Supersprint certainly on my list of wants but not just yet.

I had a chronic case of upgraditus when I bought the GP.

Just put a super sprint light back box on mine, on A roads or motorway great but around town (below 30 mph you get a bit of a drone) I will say oem back box weights just over a ton.

I've quoted one of many threads that deserve a mention.

BBK & Cups will transform your car on the premis that you can actually drive the csl to it's potential.

I have seen this first hand with Shimmy,Baz,Nick J at Spa & Assen

and Glendog,Matt,Karbonkid and several other aggressive drivers @ the Ring.

I am way behind the above but decided sometime ago to festoon my car with numerous add ons just to make me feel better;)

The OEM csl exhaust is magic and does allow you to hear the airbox in its element.

If you've got a hankering to replace the BB, the SS lightweight race is a worthy replacement. A real bonus of the SS BB over other variants is it's a recognised replacement system and therefore odds on to sell quickly should you decide to do so after a period of experimentation.

I've got a super sprint fitted and it sounds the dogs. Still have standard exhaust which for a "lightweight" car is hilarious as heavy as hell. Adds a nice amount of bass to the rear as standard sounds too tinny imo.

100db @ 6k. It has a tendency to drone at certain speeds
but you soon forget about it when you're not at a steady pace.

The drone is not speed related but RPM sensitive. The RPM figure to avid is 2500 as this is where Supersprint tends to drone (a bit) but it's nowhere near as bad as MILLTEK lightweight :banghead:
Quick blip down on the SMG paddles and it's gone :supz:

I have the full system on mine and it is LOUD and I mean fucking LOUD.

Cold start up wakes the dead and static noise test is 105-106dB depending on how warm it is.

I took it to Bedford once and they just laughed at me :bigcry:.

Passes (just) noisy tracks though (Snetterton, Silverstone etc).

As said the drone is rpm linked, keep above 3000rpm and it goes "quiet" (as in is in you can have a conversation).

I'll dig up my vids.

Snetterton drive by:

Cold start (obviously speakers don't give true effect of how loud this is):

Silverstone flyby (my favourite - see 50s onwards):

Ha! What's the extent of the difference between Res & Non-Res in terms of noise? I was recommended to go Res, but could change I guess as fitting not till next week.

Res X pipe does minimise the boom at 2500 RPM but you soon learn to avoid prolonged periods at that rev range.

Non Res ,IMO, gives a deeper sound but the difference is minimal.

I definitely noticed the difference between the 2 centre sections but that may be down to running the full system.

Centre section and race lightweight backbox fitted today and pretty pleased with the noise. Have been using the guys (Lee and Kevin) at BMS Surrey for work on the CSL recently, really impressed with them. See attached pics of the OEM CSL exhaust, the clamps have gone and so BMS are sorting these out and after some polishing etc I will hold on to exhaust for the future.

Hi - will send you PM. Really pleased with sound, but more urgency and directness about it, there is a noticeable difference I felt from standard.

Ignored the basic rule of buying bits which is "don't faff about".

By "faffing" I think I've missed out on the Braille back box for sale elsewhere on here.

Anyhow, it's looking 99.9% like the GP will be driving off into the sunset tomorrow evening which releases a bit more freed up spending stuff

Choices for back boxes seem to be : -

SuperSprint, any sponsors do them? If not, where from?

Agency Power, can't find UK stockist,

Eisenmann, not heard much about them,

GruppeM, can't find UK stockist,

Milltek, was crap on the GP so going nowhere near one.

I reckon I'll settle on a SuperSprint lightweight race back box,

Best place to buy?

I used this crowd last year and found them excellent! Got the Race box and non res centre section. Back box was out of stock when ordered but he kept me up to date throughout!

He was much cheaper than SuperSprint at the time:

Both of them delivered to my door in Ireland for €1,870!

****On checking his website, he now has a nice package of the Lightweight Race and Non-Res centre for around £1300

Mailed them for a price inc UK delivery. Site says free delivery buy doubt it'd be free to here.

EDIT : - 39 euros for UK delivery. Not bad that. once I've waved the GP off up the road I'll order one.

kookiemonster5
08-06-2015, 06:46 PM
AMAZING!

Certainly different to the 'tinny' sound of the stock setup. Its a much deeper sound with a definite growl. I cant say how it sounds with only the back box fitted as they were both put on together. Yes you're going to get a drone in the cabin when cruising in 6th at 2-2500 RPM, but this doesnt bother me, the car was never built to be quiet anyway!

It definitely screams when climbing the revs and the cold morning rasp is nothing but perfect!

Kind of hard to describe how an exhaust setup sounds, all I can say is go for it, you will not be disappointed at all.
