View Full Version : Almost a week now.
As above, had Cesil almost a week now so thought I'd share some thoughts on it.
Thoughts can be summed up in one word. Unbelievable.
As some may be aware, I also have the GP which in its current guise is an outstanding car however, I have the feeling that driving Cesil is going to kill the GP. It can't hold a candle to Cesil in any way, shape or form.
Toying with the idea of maybe moving the GP on as I don't think the enjoyment of it is going to stay the same and wondering if I need two hare brained cars.
Could flog it, buy something like a VW Fox or UP! as a runabout and bump £10k back in the bank.
Decisions, decisions :banghead:

As someone who's gone in the exact opposite direction to you in terms of recent car purchase, I think you'd be mad to sell the GP. They compliment each other perfectly IMO

Fully agreed, they do compliment each other well.
Just not sure I'd appreciate the GP the same as prior to buying the CSL.
Loved the pace of it, the handling, the whole experience of it but the CSL nails it in every way.

Pops, you have a fantastic GP.
I would not even consider selling it unless needs dictate. You will miss it & regret it.
Give it at least 6 months to see how you use both cars. You will then be in a better position to judge.
Glad to hear you are bonding with Cesil.

If you do consider selling GP message me!
If you do consider selling GP message me!
Will do mate.
I think it might be a good idea to take the advice given and sit on it for a bit. A realistic selling price would only be about 50% of what it's cost me to build as it wasn't done to a budget, just to get it as good as I could.
It was done with the idea of never selling, then along comes cesil

I don't think you should sell it either. It's one of a kind
However, my M135i is going back in March and need a replacement (always plan well ahead with car). Always had a soft spot for GPs having owned 3 new shape minis myself

The mistake you're making here is an unfair direct comparison. I'd say get through this honeymoon period and then make a judgement call on the Mini. I hope you kept all the oem parts for the Mini.

I am still in the "honeymoon" phase 11 years on lol :smt055 Not sure it ever leaves you having a csl

Absolutely nothing saved.
Why? The car is way past being averagely modified, interior, bodywork, suspension, brakes, engine, everything is different and vastly improved in relation to a standard GP.
It's a very well known car in the Mini world for a couple of reasons, one because of all the work done on it and two because it's all been done with high end parts. Tried cheaper parts in it's early days and the results were disappointing to say the least, I wanted to take the thing as close to its limits as was reasonably feasible and, it's there.
Maybe if I'd just chucked a cheap ass set of coilovers on then it might have been possible to return to standard and get away with it.
If I was looking for a GP and wanting a standard car there isn't a chance I'd buy one that had been modified and then put back to standard.
The car is at such a level now that when it comes to driveability in terms of, performance, handling, stopping power and interior it's unrecognisable as a Mini.
Perhaps it is a honeymoon period with Cesil, only time will tell. However, I will listen to advice given and make no snap decisions.
Thanks for the input folks, much appreciated

Great to read you went balls out on your mini.
Looking at the images it's obvious that a great deal of cash has been lavished.
I have gone down a similar route with my csl. It's taken almost 5 years to get it where I want it.
If I'm honest I haven't come close to driving the car to it's capabilities and they're are the minority contingent who say "what a waste of money, damaged residuals etc etc".
The CSL in any form, be it oem or Gorilla's thoroughbred, is, pound for pound, the best car south of a GT3.:smokin:

There are always going to be folks who whinge about what we do to our cars.
I used to get a bit of crap in the early days of the GP but I always used to answer "If I start asking you for money then you can have a say. Until then, sod off"
I'll never get near the capabilities of the GP but it's nice trying
Cecil stays as it is for now but, if my circumstances change again in the future then that statement will not apply.

That lasted long...:whistle::whistle::hahaha:
If you go along the same route as the GP then this could be awesome.

The GP was an easy car to improve though
Cecil wouldn't be so easy.

True, although depends how you intend to use it now? I'd say AP's and coilovers are on the cards but I believe neither are needed unless you are tracking it.

The GP is set up tp be at home on a track which makes it a hoot on the road.
Should those "circumstances" change, the csl would likely have AP's f & r, Ohlins coils ( although ClubSports are excellent on the GP ), a full suspension set up and see how it was then.
For now though, spacers ordered

Is the GP not too hard for the road if it's set up for track?

No, the ClubSports are set to medium all round and, although some may think it too hard, I find it perfect.
