Hi there, just joined as i'm looking to buy a car potentially.
a friend has an M3CSL and i'm tempted to join the fun.
i'm need to sell my Lola T70 replica first but hopefully will have cash waiting in May/June
going to start browsing the forum tonight to learn a little more, ideally i'm looking for a summer toy which i can keep the mileage down on and the value good if not increasing!
my other toys are a lotus sunbeam and a ducati 748sps.
if there are any kind/generous souls in the yorkshire area who might be willing to show a prospective buyer around their car and possibly give a passenger ride, there would be beer/petrol tokens around i'm sure.
nice to meet you all.
chris
Good luck with the search

Its on my photobucket account and in pistonheads classifieds at present. 500bhp and 900kg :-)
Plan is to go back to something quick ish which will do the odd trackday without wilting but also be good for weekend fun in Derbyshire and further afield

Cant see me ever selling tbh. Amazed the values haven't yet taken off like mk1 mk2 escorts etc. They are slowly creeping though at last. 15k min now for a really nice one and 19k has been achieved i believe. Bargain for a sorted car but they were rot boxes and need a lot of restoration.

at present i have two definite choices i need to get my head round which one to go for, its an M3 CSL or classic shape 911 (poss 993 or 964) with a top budget of £40k max. the metallic grey CSL is really looking good for what i would like to do, summer runs and the odd trackday, being road driven to and from.
is there anywhere specifically to look for CSL's other than here and Pistonheads?
they appear to be as rare for sale as my Sunbeam lotus was!

I had a similar choice to make a few years ago, and just didn't find the 993 C2S as exciting as the CSL. I'd dearly love to have one along with it though
The plan was to try and get into a 964 RS after a while, but that gap from the CSL has widened ever so slightly ;)
There are still a few CSLs over here in Ireland, but I don't know of anyone thinking of selling. Like others, it's the fear of regret and not being able to get another later on

oh thanks, can i start now lol!
these 2 porsches are to view this weekend

i've been in classic porsches but never driven one, and if i feel a bit underwhelmed and overpriced my other (possibly more exciting) option was to be the M3 CSl which would appear to tick all the right boxes:
exciting drive/rwd/good looks/quality/hold value
i'm not after another "fastest car on track" , just something that ticks all the boxes and will potter about or do fast road runs, and drive to /from the odd trackday, or maybe another ring trip.

With all Porsches, dont make judgemnets untill you see them in the flesh. I've gone to see some 993's before that looked great on photos but turned out to be dogs in the flesh
Of those 2 porsches, the 993 appears to be a C2 and the 964 is a C4 ... the 964 4wd was a different system than used in 993 and later cars. I had a 993 C4 and it was superb( c2 would have had better steering feel though) , but I gather the 964 c4 really needs some suspension mods for it to start feeling alive ( naturally it will understeer stock)
Personally with 964's , I'd try & find a 964C2 as it will give you the purer 911 feel & ultimately be more desirable in the long run if you come around to selling it.
The 993 C2 will feel a quicker car than a 964 due to a bit more power & the 6 speed box.
Which one to choose comes down to preference. I really like my 964c2, but even then I'm fitting a g-pipe to the exhaust for a bit of extra noise & next week I'm fitting Bilstein adjustable coil overs allround. My other wish list mod would be a lightened flywheel.
Comparing either to a CSL is difficult ... all I can say is that it took a while, but the CSL has really got under my skin. I love it. Its all drama. It feels more alive than a stock Porsche . Downside is it just wants to be driven hard all the time where as 964 can do both the crusing Sun afternoon drive & then the thrash across the moors. I do worry though about the price of parts for the CSL and wether something's going to break as it does feel highly strung
I'm a porsche man through & through and can't ever see me not having a 911 , but it would be a very difficult decision to choose between the CSL & the 911 ... so do what I've done & get both ;)

I like your style. I'd probably have both too if i had another spare garage ;-)
C2 for me i think if i do go 911 but im not convinced I'll get great vfm as everyone is chasing the same mint cars. Saying that i have only seen one csl for sale so far its like hens teeth!

Yes immediately. Good cars obviously being watched out for and go fast.
Are there any forum members in south Yorkshire or anyone close who might be willing to show me round their car? Never actually been in one although i remember seeing about 3 or 4 of them parked up a few yrs ago at millbrook proving ground which we were gawping at. No idea what they were upto

Delayed reaction to this thread, not been on for a while!
I'm thinking of selling but want to do a track day first as I've never done one. Depending on the timing for that may be selling about the time you will be looking to buy.
It's silver grey and will be up to about 75k miles by then if that's the sort of thing you're looking for?
Based over in East Yorkshire.
