Ionly live down the road and was at Oulton today! The CSL is very fast at any track if it has a good driver! I would say around the 1.50 mark!

I've gone under 2 mins on ps2's... so with cups on, 1:50 is about right :-D

touring cars go round in 1:44 :hahaha:

I did about 8 million laps in the CSL many years ago, about 1m58s was quick. There was extra time if you had more talent / less fear, but not 8 seconds LOL

Mine was just a guess! :-D

I have done it in 1.44 on a superstock 600 R6. and 2.08 in our little XR2 race car! :smokin:

Cups, BBK, KW's i would say 1.56 maybe?

i have seen some talented trackday drivers in 997RS struggling to get under 1m 54s

Not sure what Curly did in his CSL a OP but it is his regular track like Eliott, and my guess would be if you top 1m 57s you are doing very very well. good race driver would obviously throw it round a little faster

sounds like 1m 58 on road tyres was a terrific time

cant remember my times last year on my6 only visit there on CSLReg day but in the afternoon when it dried i think fastest was 2m 02s

ive done just under 2 mins in my 7 gta, auto tiptronic, so im hoping ill be faster in a csl,

totally different driving style between the 2, but think csl is more suited to me. if i get 1.55 - 1.58 ill be happy.

Yeah, anything in the 1.55 -> 1.58 range (Standard suspension CSL with good brakes and Cups) you'll be going very well indeed. Word of warning though - you'll be proper motoring through Island and Druids...

love druids, thats where i seemed to do my catching up against the likes of gt3 rs's.

in my auto evo because of the auto, when on and off accelerator, ie the chicanes etc i lost time,,, but in the faster sweeepers i more thanm made up for it.

im just hoping i dont regret buying a csl :rolleye:

Regret? CSL? NEVER! Well... unless you need to pack 3 kids into the back

Just checked to see if I had my old data-logs (from the Race Tech DL1) but they're deleted it seems, otherwise I'd have uploaded them.

I gave up chasing times. There's this dodgy line where it turns from 'fun trackday' to 'too risky' in my view. It dawned on me that if the BTCC boys are taking Druids at ~100mph, with full slicks and more importantly - full safety - do I really want to be going faster than 90mph in my road car?

Not preaching - just telling how my mind works, especially after having one little 'off' in mine there, which could have been a hell of a lot worse than it was thankfully. I did several thousand laps in the CSL between 2003 and 2005 and that was my safety eye-opener :-D Suddenly I noticed all the close barriers I'd previously given little thought to, especially considering the substantial speeds involved in places, eg Island and the approach to Druids.

SMD

I love Island bend! Druids is very fun on the bike, but not bothered about stuffing that! :-D

shane@mbtech
22-02-2009, 11:38 AM
my first upgrade will; be brakes, ap calipers pf discs, ill run on standard suspension for this year then upgrade suspension next year,

druids can be hairy, esp in the wet, been sideways round it manytimes, unintentional of course.

ive had a few spins at oulton but in areas not expected,

island i feel is quite stable, problems arise ive seen from people lifting mid corner, you can take island faster than you think, .

my only concern now is the shift paddles as per one of my previous posters.

SMD
22-02-2009, 11:47 AM
I think you are best to give thorney or simpsons a call about the paddle shifts as i think they would be able to do somthing for you over BMW!

Just grabbed a video off my camera of my first ever track day at a lovely wet Oulton Park in my SMG M3.

Did it in 2m28s

Was my second ever lap, complete with girly use of the throttle (yup, that's me backing off at the top end), early braking, etc, etc. More a case of trying to learn [ie, remember] the track and pick up the lines. Unfortunately I saw a mint E30 M3 spin into the armco a few laps after this one at Druids so I tend to bottle it through there still.

love the track, favourite moments have been hounding a 360 and it spun right in front of me in the dry :-D and chasing an evo 7 round and round for 5 laps right up his arse with my lights on full, when he wouldnt move over I drove round him on the outside of old hall corner on the grass :notworthy:

when i had the csl i got down to a 1.55.2 with a set of part worn slicks on with a new set of cups on did 1.55.9 the big problem with oulton is getting a clear lap. in the M3 rustbucket on toyo's 888 did a 1.58 two up which is a little heavier than the csl and has a little less power

Would be good to have a CSL on slicks! :smokin:

its very tempting to put the slicks on the CSL to try to get up to speed with those GT3 and RS but you have to remember that you have to cope with much higher corner G so when it does let go chances are it will be much harder to stop it hitting the armco!

it makes sense to do slicks but i think only with cage for me! :119:

Shimm I'll try and correct some of your miss conceptions on slicks and Intrax
The slicks i used were 235 all round great for the front but greatly undersized for the rear and had quite a few heat cycles through them which means they are not at optimum grip levels. The main advantage over a set of cup's is Brakes slightly later and have practically no understeer, the narrower rear slick hasnt quite the grip of the 265 cup but what it does is it gives the car a nice neutral balance and you go through corners practically the same speed not massively quicker and when the rear does break away it seems a little more aggressive than the cup's. When I used them at Oulton I was about 1/2 - 3/4 second quciker with the slicksand about 1/2 seconds at Donny, the thing is part warm slicks are £120 a set and get 2 track days out of them. A set of Cup's is a grand and 3 track days max out of them, its all about saving a bit of dosh.

At Oulton the Intrax is not a big gain over standard suspension I would estimate 1/2 - 1 second, with a standard suspension you can take a lot more curb and save a bit of time in the slower corners.
A CSL with just a few mods like AP front brakes, uprated RTB's and some camber plates and a fresh set of cups and you are 99% there

A good site for some lap times

Doesn't say who actually drove the csl round Brands for the lap record of 54.75.

Yep, I guess mine does look pretty good in that list, however as I said in my earlier post there would have been more time to be gained (over my 1m58's) with a better driver than me at the time.
