I know a few owners on this forum have had a GTR.

I'm looking to pick one up for the sheer performance, in the next couple of years I'll be planning quite a few Euro trips and some track time. I just want the maximum performance for the money and can't think of anything outside of a GTR.

I have a budget of around 60K but the thought of buying an early low miles car and not losing any money on it is very appealing. Realistically I'll probably own for 2-3 years.

40K will buy a decent 09/10 car and 50k a nice 2011 car, ideally I'd buy a stage 2/4 car without having to do that myself.

I've just sold my CSL and currently own my second GTR. My advice is:

- The later 2011 cars and onwards generally had some of the engineering faults corrected and had the odd improvement, but materially it's the same car as the 2009 early cars. I don't think that the early cars are worth the additional cash.

- My first GTR was a 59 plate, stage 2 from Litchfield with 17k miles on it. I paid £38k for it and sold it almost on the nose for the same money 9 months later. I only sold it because I had an itch to scratch for racing.

- My current GTR is an early 09 plate, but a lot hotter, stage 4, LM suspension, downpipes, uprated brakes and the Litchfield bellhousing. It is a monster. I paid £43k for it with 18k miles. Arguably, that is a toppy price for an early car without satnav, but the attraction of buying one that had all the upgrade work done at a very significant cost was too much.

GTRs are a real weapon, but very different experience from the CSL. On track, I prefer the CSL. On the road, the GTR is much easier to live with.

If your planning to mod, just get a decent earlier car. Downside is the suspension on earlier models. Easy to just get MY12 suspension from someone who upgraded or go Litchfield.

If you won't do much, get a later model for improvements.

Get a car with warranty if you want peace of mind for the GR6. Engine is bullet proof, only weak point is the GR6. UK model is prbably better than JDM though as our early models are prone to solenoid failure. But saying than, even my friends MY12 failed recently.

I use mine as a daily driver on non-run flats. CSL though is like a cheetah. :smokin:

P.S. Go GTR.CO.UK, should be very informative or else head to NAGTROC too.

Thanks for the responses guys.

Last thing I want to do is buy an early car for 40k and spend 10k on stage 4 + Litchfield suspension then sell it for 40k in 2 years. I'd rather buy a MY11 for 50k and sell for 45K in 2 years.

I wouldn't want an 09 as I need the Nav and 2010 are mid 40's so the difference seems less.

Most people seem to say the later cars aren't worth the premium but people who have gone from the early to later cars say they are. Difficult to decide.

basically everything is the same except suspension, some chassis tweaks. If you mod a little, it comes out better than the stock MY11 anyway.

With regards to price, dunno what the price will be later. They are mass--produced so dun expect any kind of return.

When the R36 comes out, they will drop alot regardless of MY.

Mine has already enjoyed its 3yrs of depreciation benefit for my limited company so as far as I'm concerned its another vehicle I can keep or sell for residual value

I have similar history in GTR's to Gregor now on my 2nd with Stage 4 and Lichfield suspension. I would buy a 09/59/10 plate with Stage 4 or 5, Litchfield suspension, uprated brakes and a transmission oil cooler(this is a must for tracking or you will spend all your time in the pits). That's probably around 15k-20k of mods but it will be awesome. Buy one that's got as much of these bits as possible and good history with any popular GTR tuner. You wont loose much money. I done 15k in a year then sold it for the same money and I bought from a main dealer. Older cars are holding the value. Current car I bought private but had it inspected by Litchfield and they put a warranty on the stage 4 car..

This. An older stage 4 with the Litchfield suspension and tranny cooler (which mine has) would monster a newer standard car. The mods on my car total £19k and I paid £43k for it. The standard satnav is pretty ropey. I had it on my first GTR, decided that I didn't need it in my second GTR.
