I agree mate.

Think this'll be a poignant moment in Porsche history when in 10 years we reflect back.

Bit like many do with CSL now.

Bearing in mind CSL was similar price 12 years ago, this is frankly a bargain.

I'm interested to see what happens to Cayman R values. Manual ones have been in the £38-£45k for the past couple of years.

Now on the Porsche configurator.

No Riviera Blue or Viper Green. Boooo.

CS package and buckets together at around £5k.

Nice one, I think yellow, orange and white really suits the new shape Cayman. Not convinced by red though.

Paid my £5k today too. Also going for yellow / PCCB's and buckets. Probably not CS though. This is of course if i get allocated one. CSL will have to go...

Turns out they don't want my money.
I was Nr 19 on the list and were only allocated 11 cars...

Need to call around the other dealers in case there are any left.

Not happy. :bigcry:

Would have had it in white or yellow, black wheels, buckets, PCM, 64litre tank, cruise, xenons.

Why are people not going for the Clubsport package when they are opting for buckets? To me that seems pointless as you spec buckets to hold you better on track yet don't spec the cage that will help keep you safe or more importantly the harnesses that will help keep you in said bucket.

I know if I was looking for a second hand one (which I won't but applies to GT3s) I'd want the cage and harness.

And unlike a GT3 there is hardly any room behind the seats so it's not like your losing any space by fitting the cage.

Also stuck 5k down. My OPC said no dealers were being told allocations for the next couple of weeks. But I've heard 156 mentioned for the first 2015-2016 run. My dealer would only say they took 12 deposits and weren't bothering to take more.

Spec: White, black wheels, buckets, clubsport, 64 litre tank, PCCB, black wing supports, upgraded lights, carbon pack and maybe PCM.

Might go 997.1 Rs green but not sure when colour to sample is available or if Its worth 3k

I've just been asked if I wanna be 2nd reserve by my local OPC. Still have to lay down the £5k deposit if I want to have a (very) slim chance of getting one.

They also implied the cars weren't due for some time although I thought they were due around Q2/Q3.

i'll find out about the allocation in 2 or 3 weeks but could be in June. I had money down since last May so whilst it is true that the 1st batch could run to August 2016, making a 2nd batch look somewhat remote, don't underestimate porsche releasing the taps because they need to homologate the cayman cup car.

AND.... have you seen the size of the PCCBs????? 410mm in front and 390mm rears........ holy batman and saving 20kg..........sure. having the 918 shell or engine is out of the question but having the 918 buckets for 2k and brakes for 5k is an absolute bargain.

nearly 3k for the clubsport pack is a piss take but i couldn't resist.....

Im hoping for 997.1 RS Green, buckets, cage, black wheel and wing supports, PCCB and some carbon interior bits. (and maybe PCM, undecided yet).

Going for green will probably push it to 2016 delivery. In UK at least. ...........If I even get allocated one at all. Hearing 4-5 per OPC this year and same next.

It's a smart numbers game that Porsche are playing with supply and demand, deliberately keeping numbers low for a product that, on its face, is mid-price for the overall performance. This in turn keeps residuals strong and drives demand for lesser spec models.

The less attractive side of it is the slightly aloof and detached approach that Porsche has to its order book. The enthusiasts politely queue to put money down for a car that they most likely won't get when they want and in the spec they want, if they get one at all. As a customer that's already owned a 911, I've enquired about the GT3 RS and sent in my (legally useless and arguably purely window dressing) "letter of intent" making clear that I'm ready, willing and able to buy one, but at the same time knowing that there's no chance I'll get a look in for a car. That doesn't drive positive brand equity for me as a buyer. :clown:

Please tell me you are not selling your GT2 RS for a GT4. GT4 looks awesome but to trade a 2 RS for it. No Way !
Beside GT4 RS will be revealed in a year too.

The 997.1 GT3 RS is my favourite RS version from the 911 GT3 series. Especially in arctic silver, with orange wheels, stickers, orange roll cage and pccb. I believe that i will go for hunt in one year or too. It is really a keeper.
Your choice it is also rare. Green cars are extremely rare together with the silver. Especially those which have been painted in PTS colours, like the Malaysian Riviera blue or the Spanish Yellow. I will find the pictures and i will post them here.

Yes, GT2 must go but not only for the GT4 order but because i'm thinking to replace GT2's space in the garage with something more rare. A manual Lamborghini Murcielago SV, one of only nine manual in the world! I'm really disappointed from Porsche's latest 918 together with the 991 GT3 and RS version because manual it is not an option anymore and because the 4WD and sh!t like this....

Totally agree gregorJP, I have never owned a Porsche but love the new gt4. The Porsche showroom experience doesn't sound to inspiring. BMW would be dusting down the red carpet and festooning the nibbles area with their finest muffins.

I have admired Porsche for many years designing true thoroughbred race cars for the road. But if the above is true it must leave a lot of depositors feeling a tad peeved.

A shite state of affairs all round.

Hoorah BMW we love you!!!!!;)

I was number 4 but unfortunately my dealer only got 3 cars (or so i'm led to believe) so i won't be getting a car. I don't understand why Porsche create such a hype about a car and then fail to at least *attempt* to satisfy demand - it was apparently 400% over subscribed! Porsche trying to be like Ferrari? Dream on :birdman:

I have a number of Porsche customer service stories which range from the mildly annoying to the David Brent-esque, including being told that I can have a test drive only if I "am really serious about buying the car" (this, by the way, when I already own a new model 911 which is being serviced at the time by the very same dealer), being criticised for rolling up in a GTR ("is that your cheap Datsun outside?") and being told that a battery expiring if a new car hasn't been driven for a week is normal. My 997 was awfully unreliable - a real Friday car.

In fairness, they did take me on a good customer driving experience, which BMW never did. But overall, being asked to send a "letter of intent" which will sit on file, eagerly awaiting a call from a salesman to tell me if I've been fortunate enough to drop over 100 grand on a car isn't a customer experience that I relish. I was also proudly told that a loyal customer who bought 3 brand new cars from them in 2 years and had owned many more still didn't get the RS he tried to order. As a salesman, I would not be proudly telling that story to another customer. :banghead:

There's a thread on PH discussing the possibility of ordering a RHD car from a dealer in europe. May be worth exploring.
