Autosol or Autoglym metal polish mate and a load of hard fingering... Depending on how long its been since they were last done, it might take a wee while but when they shine, they damn shine!

Sorry, they are Chromed aye, AFAIK.

actually they are stainless steel so with effort they are satin finish and not shiney chrome

its stainless steel so wire wool will do a better job (unless you have a Milltek)

I'm sure one of the resident 'detailers' will be along soon to sort us both out for using the wrong gear one way or another. :119:

Don't believe a sailor? :birdman:

:blalalala: All good banter!

James, go and do me a favour and wait for a couple of other opinions before you use wire wool. I think it might be alright on the inside to remove the heavier carbon then some polishing with Autosol etc, but the outside DOES come up VERY WELL with a bit of effort and I can't help but feel if you go at it with wire wool, you might end up loosing the shiny-ness you so desire. I used Autosol on my standard exhaust before I got the Milltek, and it done the job no bother.

Hi mate
Thanks, think i will wait, anything i do car related goes wrong, dont want to wreck that with the wool lol. Il try something more soft and give it a good go, dont know why ive suddenly become obsessed with getting them shiny though lol

Thanks

James.

Ah another shiney pipes thread....love it :smt055 .....I wouldn't use wire wool on the outside. Mine where very bad when I got the car so used a metal polish/tcut and a lots of car polish polish, plus lots of elbow grease. For the inside a light sand paper does the trick. Had one of those sand paper blocks which just fitted inside. You then keep turning it until all shiney.... And then you have shiney pipes

I used WD40 and a rough pad (think theyre called scouring pads for cleaning pots), to do the outside, and wire wool for the inside.

Look like Andys :-D

Not sure about scouring pad as that will sratch...unless you use nylon, but don't think that will be abrasive enough.

A chrome cutting polish is what you want...comes in a tube like tooth paste....but you will need to work at it.

I was very careful of this and I didnt scratch the outside in the slightest.

I used this (the green side)

CSLjimmy
24-02-2009, 07:12 PM
Thanks mate, i used Autosol, for the outside i just used a cloth, took a while but in the end it seemed to get rid of most of it, for the inside i bought some Halfords detailing brushes that got the dirt off quite well.
