It'd be interesting to see what the market value of the CSL stands at today. Obviously there are movements in price up and down for condition / history etc, but as a rough guide - how much would the following cars be?

Without doubt temporary yes, the whole car market for "classics" and "limited editions" is inflated currently for sure. A correction is due I feel.

Especially for pork.

Porsche should make just a few cars, and sell the certificate of entitlement to 100 times as many people.

So people just trade the certificate, and if anyone wants physical delivery (for few drive them nowadays), they have a few available - like a bank with your money/investments.

& if there is a run, they get given Passats or something

Prices for certain Porsche's have just gone daft now - almost laughable. The CSL if you look at it has had a more mature, steady and justified price rise. Look at 1M's - some are still at list price at 3+ yrs old! E46 M3 CS's - some are advertised at nearly CSL prices! The CSL looks very cheap next to some cars. Maybe fingers will get burnt? But i know the CSL will be safe.

Agreed  it seems this most recent "Modern Classic Car/Pork bubble" is just about ripe enough to burst  just like the last one did when overnight prices of 'E' Type Jags (and lots of other 60's British classics ) went through the roof to the point where some people where shipping in US speck LHD 1960's British wrecks back to Blighty to restore and convert to RHD, quickly and sometimes quite badly :banghead:

Yep, the steering wheel is awful!

It's the same one as fitted to my 968CS (though mine is all black and looks much, much better) quite easy to change over as there's no airbag to contend with!

North of 36K? with BBK even a smidge more.

Your 997 is orange if I remember.......you must be a happy chap given the revised value. I'm very keen to follow suit with a 997 but very conscious of a possible deflation in price in 2015.

You guys are forgetting that there is a whole new wealthy league only just getting interested in classics. Till date they were mostly looking at purple lambo's.
On top of that, cars have changed. It's all turbo, pdk and electric steering nowadays.
As with any other stuff, vintage is and remains hot.

Car to buy now is (IMO) 996 GT3

Yes, but you forgot to add two important letters. RS

Both 996 RS and non-RS good news - ship has sailed on the the former now though. 1999 mk1 GT3 CS will be raving news. My vote though would go for a gen1 997 GT3 for around £60-65k - same body, engine (Mezger - albeit different state of tune), and many many components as the 4.0RS, but around £300k less! It seems the 997.1 has been forgotten.... for now:whistle:

Exactly. For a 996RS you're way too late. Same goes for 964RS.
997mk1 RS in orange, black or silver can still be picked up at reasonable prices, but I'm curious to see how mk1 values will fare compared to mk2's. There's not that much difference between 'm now, which surprises me a bit.

My money would be on 996 mk1 CS at the moment. 997 mk1 GT3 will take some more time to consolidate lower.

But hey - we're talking about CSL's here right :blalalala:
The prices of CSL's seem to be at a stalemate the past 2 years (I'm talking LHD, not too familiar with the RHD situation).

Production numbers are 841 LHD's and 542 RHD's if I'm correct, right? (excluding 19 LHD and 10 RHD pre-production examples)

The GT3 is hopefully my next ride, possibly next year.
I was looking at a 996.2 but they a) seem impoible to find at all, and b) are c£50k minimum now.
In comparison the 997.1 can be had for c£63k.

To me it seems much better sense to get a newer 997.1 with low miles than a leggier older version.

Woudn't even consider a 996.1 GT3. Those headlights :gayfight:

But that's just me.

An identical 997 mk1RS in green is advertised at 160K on mobile.de, with higher mileage. Just sayin' ;)

MikeNsx
26-12-2014, 04:33 PM
From experience, low miles is for collectors only, seen lots of low milers with deep scratches on cam lobes as they get dry from very low usage. Engine internals and components suffer more corrosion due to short distance runs and old oil. For a car to drive, one with more miles and a service every year is a much safer bet. Although, lovely car...

Send me a PM or email when you're ready or anyone else with a ~30,000 - 50,000mile car, don't mind bolt on mods (Brakes, exhaust and suspension).

I've relocated recently to London (from New Zealand) and am looking at either a CSL or a 1M (a 996 GT3 too but that ship has sailed).

997 considered by many to be a much better road car as well as still being an awesome track machine. Much nicer interior and exterior too. Best 996 examples are now knocking on the door of £55-60k. 997 can still be had for £65-70k with 2years Porsche warranty (worth £2.5k). 997.1RS now £100k+. 997.2RS £150k+. 4.0RS £250k+. I feel the 7.1GT3 (which is 90-95% of the 7.1RS, and probably 80-85% of the 7.2RS) is the best value 'GT3' atm.

It's hard to say without an in depth inspection by someone like our Gareth who knows Cecils inside out
The Advert says it's Cat D because it was stolen but... while it was stolen was it involved in any accidents and did it suffer any structural damage.
Also did it have the rear sub-frame boot floor professionally inspected recently for infamous cracks ? and was the passenger air bag recalled ?
