Hey Everyone,
This is a mini journal of my CSL. Will try to update as I go along with info that would hopefully be helpful to all of us.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After carefully reading every track addicts choices and advices, I decided to go for a lightweight 18" track wheels and Cups for my track work. And use the 19" CSL's with Michelin Super Sports (Awesome in the rain btw). I just heat cycled them for 15 min of moderate twisty driving and will be parked till tomorrow for the full effect.
They are 18x9 ET40 OZ Ultraleggera wrapped in 265/35/18 Michelin Cups. 10mm Spacer in the front and 20mm in the back. Will try them this weekend at the track looking forward for my first CUP experience.
Here are a couple shots, will add more after the track day. Thanks for looking.

Thanks.
Wheels weigh 8.7kg each compared to 12.6kg and 13.8kg for CSLs.
I forgot to put them on a scale with the tires but will do on Monday when I take them off and switch back to CSL'S with Michelin SS. I'll update this thread with exact weights of both setup.
The weight will be a nice difference but, my main reason for this setup was cost and to eliminate slight understeer with wider fronts. Since this is a square setup, you can rotate the wheels front and back, left and right. Hence longer life (At least thats the plan)
With OEM CSL setup, cups cost around %15 more (might me different in UK or other countries) and you can only switch left to right. Not to mention the 18 sizes are much easier to find.

Thanks PP. It's more like a weekend and track car so would be a slim shot to see it around actually. I am located in Istanbul on the European side but let me know next time you are around, I'd be happy to show her to you.

Hey Matt. I still can't find a proper 996 set. I'm afraid I'll have to save up and go for the "do it once do it right, AP" route. As with the cups and 18"s. The car will be needing proper stopping power.
But who knows, if I find a suprisingly well priced set of brembo's I might think again :)

Quick Update,
I had a wonderful track day at Istanbul Park yesterday thanks to my new setup. This was my fist experience with cups let alone on a CSL and I must say, WOW ! What a difference ! It is a whole other car with these.
Combined with lightweight square setup I was able to best my previous time by 6 seconds ! That is a HUGE improvement considering it is a 2 minute circuit over there. Super happy.
I just took them off and stored them for their winter sleep and put the CSL's back on. OZ's will be back on when the trackday season starts early march.
Just a quick question guys;
Should I just rotate them front to back or also cross switch ? Like front left to rear right and vice versa ?

As CUPs are an Asymmetric tyre it's possible to that so to get the most mileage & life out of them I'd say Yes
Just make sure you inflate them to 26 psi (1.8 bar) cold for Track work.

I always rotate front to rear after each TD.
I found you then get even wear.

strange thing now is that i dont need to.....somehow ive managed to get front and rear Cup wear even. Also coz of the variety fo tracks ive found that left right wear isnt much different either.

The only track worth doing is Istanbul Park F1 Circuit here. The other local track is only a 1.2mile small loop and not fun at all. Istanbul park is a counter clockwise circuit with many fast corners (famous turn 8) leaning the car on rights. Hence my opinion for right to left switch.

Cross switch will be fine  as Mich. CUPs are not directional so will fit any corner/side of the car so long as they are fitted onto the wheels correctly ;)

Finally had a chance to compare the oem wheel and tire setup with OZ and Cups,
OEM Front :
http://i593.photobucket.com/albums/tt18/TheSultan2/FullSizeRender%201_zpst9s8ywkg.jpg (http://s593.photobucket.com/user/TheSultan2/media/FullSizeRender%201_zpst9s8ywkg.jpg.html)
OEM Rear :
http://i593.photobucket.com/albums/tt18/TheSultan2/FullSizeRender_zpslmqwzzmu.jpg (http://s593.photobucket.com/user/TheSultan2/media/FullSizeRender_zpslmqwzzmu.jpg.html)
OZ Ultraleggera and Michelin Cups (265/35/18 Square Setup) :
http://i593.photobucket.com/albums/tt18/TheSultan2/FullSizeRender%202_zpsnk1vqftk.jpg (http://s593.photobucket.com/user/TheSultan2/media/FullSizeRender%202_zpsnk1vqftk.jpg.html)
So that's 1.2kg savings in the front and 3.1kg at the rears. Not bad considering 18 cups are really heavier then 19's. So far very happy with the results and the difference in handling is noticeable.
BTW, a bonus overall weight pic. Stock car, stock rims only mod is KW CS, 1453kg with full tank and tire mobility kit etc.
http://i593.photobucket.com/albums/tt18/TheSultan2/FullSizeRender%203_zpsxcgnrcat.jpg (http://s593.photobucket.com/user/TheSultan2/media/FullSizeRender%203_zpsxcgnrcat.jpg.html)
I know I need corner balancing. The car will go on a nice diet next week with AP's, Ti Exhaust, Rear seat delete, braille etc and then corner balance before Istanbul Park outing. I'll share each weight savings here.

And after the initial bedding in process, I must say, WOW ! They are not brakes these are anchors !!! Once they are up to temperature, they are all they were hyped to be ! Cost a small fortune but totally transformed the car. Can't wait to try them on the track next weekend.

Today I fitted the JIC Cross full Titanium Rear Box. It is incredibly light. Weighted both oem and Cross. OEM Backbox was 25.5.kg and Cross was 7.6 kg !!! A saving of almost 18kgs !! WOW ! It looks slightly boy racer with burned tips but they are mostly hidden from the diffuser too.
It sounds slightly bassier than oem but starts to shriek as rpms go but of course it is inaudible once the airbox kicks in ! I don't know if its me but I felt a slight improve on performance. Maybe from the wieght savings or maybe from the system. Overall very happy with it !

A question though.
Your suspension is the KW clubsport right ?
Why the helper spring is down and not up ?
From the factory they come with the helper spring up, just under the top mount.

Great spotting Alex.
We switched the springs for shorter ones to be able to fit my track wheels without spacer but somehow in all that russ my mechanic accidentaly left the helper at the bottom and forgot to pull it up before putting in the new spring.
He said it wouldn't make any difference when we found out so we didn't fix it and so far so good. What do you think ? Would it affect the handling etc. ?

Helper spring only there to stop the main spring from rattling around on full droop. So no, should not make any odds whether it's at the top or bottom.

It is a massive saving indeed. I don't have access to decibelmeter but I can tell they are slightly louder than stock, more like SS Sport. I only heard from the inside of course, I'll be at the track next week and will have a few videos from the outside and give you all a preview.

Removed the rear seats today and I'm having a custom cardboard panel made for the opening. Will be covered in Alcantara.
Here is a break down of the weight of the rear seats.
Rear Bench, 6.2kg
http://i593.photobucket.com/albums/tt18/TheSultan2/FullSizeRender_zps6tufylou.jpg (http://s593.photobucket.com/user/TheSultan2/media/FullSizeRender_zps6tufylou.jpg.html)
Small seat back, 3.7kg
http://i593.photobucket.com/albums/tt18/TheSultan2/IMG_1070_zpsg5eua3zy.jpg (http://s593.photobucket.com/user/TheSultan2/media/IMG_1070_zpsg5eua3zy.jpg.html)
Large seat back, 4.0kg
http://i593.photobucket.com/albums/tt18/TheSultan2/IMG_1071_zps6xgpovbj.jpg (http://s593.photobucket.com/user/TheSultan2/media/IMG_1071_zps6xgpovbj.jpg.html)
And the rest (Head rests, seat belt buckles, rear mats), 2.7kg
http://i593.photobucket.com/albums/tt18/TheSultan2/IMG_1072_zpsqnl3o176.jpg (http://s593.photobucket.com/user/TheSultan2/media/IMG_1072_zpsqnl3o176.jpg.html)
Overall 16.6kg. I am guessing the cardboard panel will weigh somewhere between 3-4kg. So a total saving of about 12-13kg. Not bad.
Braille battery will be put in after the seat delete...

Seat delete panels went in. They turned out heavier than I hoped but I asked a bit extra foam to keep the new exhaust's drone away and it works great. We removed 16.6kg and put back 5.3kg for the panels. 12.3kg loss. Not bad.
http://i593.photobucket.com/albums/tt18/TheSultan2/FullSizeRender_zpstkmbgtmw.jpg (http://s593.photobucket.com/user/TheSultan2/media/FullSizeRender_zpstkmbgtmw.jpg.html)
Next up is Braille battery and then corner balance with the new weights. The rear has visibly lifted after the exhaust and seats, definitely needs a adjustment.

Go on. Throw a cage in.
I did consider it but only a rear roll bar doesn't bring any extra rigidity and adds unnecessary weight unless I go full cage which would be pointless and dangerous without a helmet on the streets. Not to mention it brings new expenses like bucket seats, harnesses etc. There is a fine line between a nicely modded CSL and a gutted E46 M3 and I don't want to step in to the modded e46 m3 look. I believe oem seats are a major part of that.
As for looks it looks awesome, I admit. I am trying to improve my laptime with these recent mods at Istanbul Park. Will see this weekend if any of them helped. If/when I see an improvement, I will put the seats back in. They look incomplete like this.
I never appreciated the simple and purposeful design of CSL rear seats untill they were off. Not to mention the tiny gain in weight. It all adds up though.

Clubber I've gone down a similar route to yourself but pushed on and installed a rear cage, recaro spa's, harnesses etc. Agreed the full cage would give maximum rigidity but the rear cage has certainly transformed the handling in the positive. It may be a touch of placebo with the mods but the car's driving characteristics are vastly improved....as I'm sure you've experienced so far in your modifications.

The rollbar I considered was a bolt-in clubsport model by weichers. When I looked at the mounting points it looked too weak to give any proper strenght. It looked more show than go unless of course you mounted a weldin part which may have helped the handling.

Finally done with the car for this weekend's track day.
Today we fitted the Braille battery after a frustrating transaction,
http://i593.photobucket.com/albums/tt18/TheSultan2/IMG_1163_zpsuclhjolq.jpg (http://s593.photobucket.com/user/TheSultan2/media/IMG_1163_zpsuclhjolq.jpg.html)
It really is tiny and light. Let's hope it stands more than a week without a charger.
Once all the removing/diet stuff is done, I took the car for final weighting and corner balancing.
Here is the final weight comparison except Braille Battery. It should be 1400kg flat with the light battery. We lost a little more than 50kgs. Not bad considering we didn't gut or strip the car to silly levels.
Before and After,
http://i593.photobucket.com/albums/tt18/TheSultan2/IMG_1126_zpsh8ogbkh8.jpg (http://s593.photobucket.com/user/TheSultan2/media/IMG_1126_zpsh8ogbkh8.jpg.html)
And then we got on to corner balancing. We didn't have too much time but this is what we could do after a few attempts. We'll leave it at this for now.
This is with me in the car. %50.7 Cross.

The thing about a full roll cage imo is that you need to have harnesses to hold you in place instead of seat belts and you need to have foam padding. Helmets add extra safety but not needed to be road legal.
And you are correct, clubsport packs in porsches have specific mounts that incorporated with the rear cage adds stiffness but nothing like the strength of a full welded cage. my csl is stiffer than my gt3 rs which is saying a lot.
love the battery install (very neat). i have a braille AGM lightweight B2317RP but not the brackets to hold it in place. do I call Braille for those?
oh and they don't last 1 week... which is why i switched back to oem. The car sits for a max of 2 weeks at a time and no electricity supply to hook up a charger.

That is a serious car khooni ! Great job. I bought j hook adapters from braille too. I will keep car on charge when it takes longer than a weekend between starts then. Thanks for the tip.
BTW, all that hard work paid off today ;)
First in class, third in overall behind a 458 Speciale and 991 GT3 !

Still couldn't adapt to AP's. It's harder than it sounds. I either brake too soon or too late. Gotta keep trying. Couldn't improve my best time on that track either although weather was a major factor. My best time came in a nice chilly November track day last year. May heat doesn't help.

Thanks Rob,
Visor sticker is handy as I don't like folding and unfolding the car's visor during the lap, it can get pretty intrusive.

Well that's brave ! Isn't it dangerous to drive without a helmet in a full cage ?
Apologies Can, should have read fully welded rear cage.
And yes Brett, us leek munchers don't worry about cages. ;)

Thanks Matt,
She is still up there with the best of them and considering the minor gap between times I think Cesil is still the most go for buck !

No problem :) Roll bar or cage is a no go for me, at least for a while.

Yesterday was a busy day for my Cesil, fitted Radium Oil Catch Can, Powerflex RTAB and Turner Rear Camber Arms.
Oil catch can was a very simple 5 minute job and Radium stuff is first class in look and weight. I will check the can in 1000km to see if it gathers any.
My stock rtab were fine when we removed but I can definitely feel the rear more planted with MUCH less understeer already. I don't know if it is the rtab or the extra camber added by Turner arms (2.05 now, instead of oem 1.5) but handling definitely improved, now I feel like I can feel the benefit of KW CS even better.
Highly recommend the bushes and rear arms. Turner arms were very light as well.

Good choices right there brother. I have RE arms and BW RTAB's and also have the Radium catch can. I did a review on it but someone on here deleted it as I wasnt a paid member. Oh well.... :hahaha:

Thanks my friend. I never knew such small changes on cambers would help the handling this much. lesson learned.

Very cool mate, thank you for completing such a well documented refresh. Loving the red paint on the seat belt buckles, not to mention painting the wheel weights while painting the wheels, very much up my OCD route, 1st class.
