View Full Version : AirBag Recall
Morning all.
Got home from work yesterday to a letter from BMW UK stating that the CSL needs a new Passenger Side Airbag...
ANyone else had one yet? Guessing a fair few of us will given that our cars were probably all fitted with the same units since they were built almost arsehole to beak...
They are saying that due to supply of new parts, book it in in the new year...
I guess it's not only CSLs or even M3s or E46 affected? Could be lots of cars..

Good few of us have already had it done. Not everyone has had a letter, and there seemed to be some confusion at the start if the CSL was included
Thanks - so it is a recent thing...
Despite some confusion on the thread you linked, it seems CSLs most definitely are included now - it's my VIN on the top for sure...

Not received a letter, but was recently at the dealers for an Inspection I and they did it as a matter of course.
They didn't however ask/tell me about the SMG update which could have been done at the same time, not best pleased. :banghead:

Yes I've had a letter from BMW uk today. Sounds like it's the same scripture as yours. I've not contacted a dealer yet. I'm not to fussed as its nearly of the road for the winter. Think I'll wait till new year.

Totally agree, but then a) it would cost them a lot more money & b) would it ever be a safety issue for which they could get sued? Cynical I know, but that's how they all work.....

I work at Nissan and the same recall has been out for a couple of years. The same part is being replaced and the majority have been produced by one particular company and is the case for a number of other manufacturers hence the short supply.

have had some issues getting enough stock of replacement airbag units as this is a massive global multi brand recall.
While waiting just be sure to warn any passengers you have of the impending doom!

For those of you waiting for a letter - it may never come! I would suggest that you just phone up your local dealer and inquire when it would be convenient to have the necessary works carried out.
I was told by my local dealer (Williams Group) who supplied the car originally, that they will have the original owner on their system and that he will most probably receive the letter.

So earlier on today I spoke to BMW (GB) Customer services on (0800 325600) and I have been informed that these Airbag recall letters are being sent out in small batches... hence why not everyone has received theirs yet.
While I was on the phone to BMW I also confirmed with them that I am registered as the current owner of my Cecil on their database and that both of the recall letters have been posted to me today. We'll see

You don't have to pay to have it replaced by a dealership. The airbag is subject of a recall, therefore BMW foot the costs

Thanks for that Ben.
I think my Cecil was originally SOLD in that area by Godfrey Hall Ltd. BMW, Dealer No.: 20724 (no longer in business under that name) but their postcode in 2003 was (SY1 4AB) which must have been across the road from where Rybrook BMW are today (SY1 4AQ)
If I'm right I think Godfrey Hall Ltd. BMW became Rydale BMW, dealer No.: 20724 and postcode (SY1 3LD) before finally becoming Rybrook BMW.
Does any of this sound feasible to you ?

BMW dealership formally sited opposite to current site.
All of the above is accurate!!
Godfrey Hall originally owned shrewsbury and Coventry BMW dealers(when it was privately owned) before selling to the rydale group and as you say onto the rybrook franchise which has Warwick as well.
So the duvet is a salop cesil!!
