Hi All, a couple questions,
Firstly, i have recently renewed ins with Classicline which gives me the guaranteed value, i just need to get an accurate valuation. Has anyone else done this recently & where pls? My Cesil :
1st reg 11/08/04
72,700 Miles, FSH, all BMW apart from one in 2013
8 Owners
Black 1M Wheels
Agency Power rear exhaust box
KSport big brake kit with EBC Bluestuff pads
Porsche/Brembo rear 4 pot caliper conversion
Alloy rear strut brace
Carbon SMG paddles
Power flex rear subframe bushes and outer TCAs
Rear PDC Xenons
AC/Climate
Comfort windscreen
Build plaque
Secondly, wanted to know thoughts on what service to get carried out, history as follows:
Service history.
PDi 11-8-04
Running in service 11-10-04,1520 miles BMW
Oil service 11-1-06,11576 miles BMW
Inspection 1 26-3-07,22731 miles BMW
Oil service 29-4-08,33778 miles BMW
Inspection 2 1-4-09,47473 miles BMW
Oil service 13-4-11,61142 miles BMW
Oil change 6-10-12,66822 miles BMW
Inspection 2 13-4-13, 68568 miles SCC PERFORMANCE. (st Albans)
Currant mileage, 72,700, car will be garaged over winter, where & when would you get serviced (main dealer or specialist)?, now or in the spring? & what service would you have done baring in mind the last Insp 2 was non main dealer?
My local Stealer didn't fill me with confidence when i popped in to ask about servicing costs & i was quite shocked to hear an Insp 2 comes in at £1250 !!
By the way, absolutely loving the car, will be at Silverstone for the touring cars this weekend with it.
Thanks in advance.

Personally I would service at BMW, but a decent one. I have used Elms and they know their stuff.
No expert, but recently been in the market.
I would say value of around £35,000 for insurance purposes, bit less come actual sale.

£1250 sounds a bit rich for an inspection 2. I believe many main dealers offer lower rates on older cars. My CSL had an inspection 2 at Lloyds of Carlisle (original supplying dealer) for £800 IIRC this included VAT.

Was this recently? Had no idea they varied that much!

So BMW main dealer at around £1000 or Gareth & Damien at Bartletts?? Looks like i'm going to be travelling as nothing much my way in Somerset!

IIRC Inspection 2 is £799 all in @ Elms, 'CSL' recommended (BMW UK) Dealer... even less if you bring your own engine oil :smokin:

Is that Elms Cambridge? Would you get done before or after putting away for the winter?
I am in Somerset but happen to be in Cambridge this Monday / Tuesday so could pop in for a chat, anyone particular i need to speak too?

The servicing cost above are those recommended by BMW UK, individual Dealers can however adhere to the recommendation or go their own way, hence the discrepancy in pricing.
I had an Inspection I carried out earlier this week at Williams Manchester (for convenience) now put away for the winter, will surface again in April.
If your laying it up, periodically (at least once a month) run the engine to keep the vital juices flowing, another tip; chock the wheels don't use the handbrake and you should be good to go come the Spring.

Affirmative on Elms Cambridge  well Elms Camborne which is 10 miles West from Cambridge central, just to be precise ;)
Speak to Emma or Rob who's the Service department Manager. Both extremely helpful & knowledgeable. Also make sure to mention you're part of the CSLR clan

Thanks for good tips:thumbs:. So baring in mind the last service was an inspection 2 but at a specialist would you get another inspection 2 done at Elms for example? It was the only done side with the car having the one non BMW service but was reflected in the price:thumbs:

Do Elms still have a preferred technician for CSL work now that Gareth has left?

Exactly as you said, Emma couldn't of been more helpful & fantastic deals for CSLR members! Dan is in demand tho ...... currently booking a month ahead!
What are your thoughts on what service to get carried out? Taking into account the last service was an inspection 2 but carried out by a specialist? SCC Performance (St Albans)

Always good to hear of another satisfied CSLR member @ Elms :smokin:
Re: the next service... it should be Oil & filter Service next but it depends on how long ago/ how many miles ago the Inspection 2 was done @ the specialist and if it was followed down to a T, as per BMW schedule.

Inspection 2 carried out April 2013 @ 68500, car now on 73000. Obviously i can only go on the receipt that i have with the car which states work was carried out to BMW specification plus extra work including fuel filter & vanos filter.

Sounds like the previous owner was fairly Switched On as he requested the Vanos filter to be changed despite it NOT being a recognised service item by BMW themselves :banghead: Well done that man
You have until April 2015 or whatever the mileage countdown tells you on the OBC display on every start up 'till the next service which going by BMW service schedule should be engine "Oil & Filter" service + whatever else you wish to do.
Obviously there is no harm in having an interim "Oil & Filter" service if you're itching to treat your Cecil to some TLC ;)
