My car has a full BMW stamped up history incl al the brake fluid changes too.

It's due a brake fluid change again and BMW want £130 ...

Looking ahead, do you think having a non BMW garage stamp in the brake fluid change section of the service book is going to put off a buyer ?

Just £130 seems a lot for something I do myself on my classic cars

I would change it self, its not a big deal:thumbs:.
(For the service history it is not thing that matters me.)

DIY and go with Castrol SRF if you do a lot of spirited driving and track days.

I would add only DIY if you are competent in doing it - it's not straightforward and it's you who'll end up paying if things go tits up.

slight update on this ... dont usually click on 'adverts' on forums, but today on one of my porsche forums a BMW service on popped up

https://www.bmw-service.co.uk/

turns out a brake fluid change is £69 all in ... so I've requested the work & through my local BMW dealer at Teesside too.

Not had a booking confirmed yet so we'll see what happens

I know if I do something myself it's done correctly, for a BF change I'd use probably 2L just to make sure all the old stuff is out of the system, can't see a dealer doing that.... Probably 5 pumps on each corner job done, whereas I'd be closer to 50. But then that's just me.

We use an electronic brake bleeder, and bleed 1L through the system:) doing it manually takes way too long!

If you have AP's don't forget to take your fluid along with the car.

Good luck with it  as £69 all in sounds a lot more palatable ;) especially for the Main Stealers.
I just hope they do the job properly and flush out all of the old fluid

Booking confirmed :)

They were a bit shocked when I told them the price the website quoted ...... They went away and checked and although they think the website is wrong, they have agreed to honour it

Have to drop off the car the night before for some reason ( told was a requirement for e46 m3's )

At least for the warranty I'll gave a BMW stamp in the book

My local dealer would not do APs anyway although ELMs would have done if I had brought my own fluid.

How come BMW dealers won't change the brake fluid if APs are fitted and what is the difference if you supply your own fluid?

Probably more to do with it potentially being uprated fluid, and not the normal dot 4 that BMW use. We regularly bleed with dot 5 or ATE super blue. Just depends how flexible your dealer is willing to be.

I personally think some dealers miss a trick by refusing to carry out non genuine work. Lot of money being spent elsewhere!

Very true Monkey. They (my local) said they would not do the APs as their machine was not geared to APs and ELMs did not stock any racing brake fluids.

Brake fluid is normally replaced at Inspection I or II services at least every 2 years.
However if you want to upgrade the fluid your better off going with an Indy Specialist, just bare in mind if your having a Dealer undertake an Inspection Service - it will be replaced to comply with the service schedule/requirements.

All done @ Cooper BMW Teesside

Do have to mention them , as considering the price, they did a spectacular job of looking after the car . Full health check & clean etc .... I've had my other BMW's cleaned after their service etc , but never has my car come back looking as good as the CSL did. Interior immaculate, exterior the same & even the wheels polished up & tyre dressing applied too  . Was the best looking car in the carpark ;)

service guy owns an E46M3 and I know some of the techs are members of the stockton motorclub , so all enthusiasts :)

Shame I'm going to have to drive it today in this wet miserable weather and ruin all that hard work :bigcry:

Brake fluid change is in no way linked to the other services, it's just for you low mileage garage queens that it works out that way;)

As I said, can't speak for other main dealers but ultimately it's your car, if you want different fluid/plugs/filters supply own oil then we'll do it:)
