Anyone doing donny with the BMW car club on the 29th? Before you start with the 'they don't let you overtake on the BMW CC days' comments, i was there last year in the CSL and i did plenty of overtaking and had a really good day!! The driving standard was better than most random track days!!

I am hoping to go with my mate who has a M3, I'll probably take the 968 and chicken out taking the CSL as it has standard brakes and I would probably kill them.
Another friend should be there (in his boxster) with some of his mates in a 135M.

I did BMWCCs Oulton day last year - they're run by MSV so MSV rules apply. Over-taking on straights only and after consent, only over-taking on the left.
The BM ones are good, Nick keep the numbers low. I did a novice day with MSV recently and the track seemed far busier (although this could be because the day was sessioned).

I was there today, had Cecil but was driving an E36 race / track car instead. A lot of fun. Great day and the standard of driving was good. Only one very brief stoppage for a breakdown.
Saw a few CSLs there but was hosting clients so didn't get a chance to say hi sadly.

well if you are on slicks again you should be at least equal to your best CSL time at Donny.

Simons is roughly the same as my one - Mine is 1400kg ready to go, with a full tank. Cross weights within 0.2% on Spires Nitrons. For reference Pookys Csl weighed 1440 with a full tank on the spires scales. Power is standard, diff is carbonetics but ratio standard.

hmmm on slicks at about same weight as light csl, with decent diff........1m15.5 -1m16.5 (allowing 2.5 secs for diff/slicks) would be fast

If I was running 1m15.5-1m16.5s I would be doing the Kuhmo cup or a similar series not fannying around at trackdays!! :hahaha:
The Kuhmo cup lap record is a 1m15.870, I appreciate that they aren't on slicks but they are race cars with no carpets!!

well I was just presuming you were Jason PLato...
However Sy on her did I think 1m 18s in a CSL with Intrax and Cups so I thought with Spires geo on Nitrons and Slicks you have to be 1,5 - 2,5s faster

Took the track bitch to Snetterton Monday, running -5 neg camber up front, square set up 18 inch on 24/64/18 slicks, bad boy rear wing, stripped, intrax, ap's, full heavy weight M3 OEM exhaust system, corner weighted, 1400KG with full tank of fuel and I reckon it would give a CSL on 18 inch Cups, square set up, Intrax, AP's a run for its money.
I didn't think it could be done but with all Adem's help its nearly there.
Just need a dry day to test it out properly.
Best on damp to dry conditions on speedo round coram was 105mph entry and 95mph before braking. Quicker than CSL and more sturdy, but was on slicks. Must be the rear wing.
I think in the dry I could take bomb whole flat out, or slight lift.
But also done 13+ more track days in the M3's favour.
Saying that, Adem let me take his CSL out on fresh cups, after he spent the morning scrubbing them in and grip levels were the same.
But being able to push harder and know a 2nd hand engine is £1500, front bumper = £250 means that you can just push.
Realistically its all down to the drivers ability and how confident there are with the car moving around near the limit.
Cannot wait till the next Snetterton date.

You are absolutely right, pushing on in a track slag gives you a lot more confidence than wringing the neck out of a £30K + CSL. Thats got to be worth 3 seconds a lap easy! :hahaha:
With -5 on the front I assume you only use those settings with slicks and set back to -3 for cups / semi slicks?

Struggling to get the slicks working across the full width to be fair as I am running at -3 degrees camber front and this means the outside 1/3 of the front tyre isn't being optimised. But don't want to go any further neg camber as it'll eat road tyres!! To be honest I don't think I am much quicker on the slicks than the Nankang NS-2R's (surprisingly good tyre for the money tbh!!), will try some cup 2's after the Nankangs if they are available in 265/35 18 by then!!

Nah, sacked the cups off. Sold one set of CSL rims and the other set are on the csl.
I drove to track like that on 19inch square set up with goodyears on.
Snetterton and bedford are only 40min away. If on a longer journey I would use the 18inch rims and put back to -3.
On cups -3.20 worked best for me with -2.20 at the rear with even wear.
Ive tried -3.20, -4, -5 on slicks and -5 works best for me.
On -5 all the width of the slicks got used, had to abort a couple of laps when it started raining on slicks as lost the front end round Riches (first corner on pit straight).
Wouldn't mind a 4.1 diff but happy as the car is for now.

I cant see why an M3 prepped for track shouldn't be same speed as CSL both on cups tbh., Weight may be lower in CSL and it will have say 20-25bhp more but you will be around 50kg lower than most CSLs and in car as you say, you can take liberties.
A better diff and slicks have got to improve it above a CSL surely.

so going by what youve said, you looked quick at BEdford nut if slicks not batter than cups id say you should be at 1m19

Slicks are much better than cups unless you get a shagged set.
You and Sy done a 1.18 in Csl, intrax and cups.
Will do Donny after snetterton and Bedford gt.

Sy was in 1m17s and Barry did mid 1m18, i think mine was 1m19 dead
im going back as well :)
a wing and down force will make a difference i think on the time tween redgate and mcleans in particular

Rear wing is where its at. Adem's making something special up for the front.
Sy, just seen a picture of your car on Cutters, looks awesome.

This was the conclusion I came to. I had a lot more fun pushing on hard, braking late and generally chucking around an £11k E36 track slag / race car that I do the CSL. I'm always conscious of the CSL's value (and the fact I need to drive it home!)
Seriously considering going down this route for track day shenanigans.

That is a great pic... When I was a lad, I used to have a massive poster on the wall of the BMW Junior Team 320i doing the same thing - huge gout of flame from the exhaust. :smt055
