He is phonning me at 12.15am telling me thats how he trims all his wheels.i said he has a 50/50 positive to negative feedback he reckons 98% happy 2% unhappy!!!
I may have exaggerated that statement cos im angry!a lot of m3 cutter guys love his work(but they also love the old storm smg nob with grub screws in it)so shows their taste.
Fuck off you gotta be blind, stupid or just not concerned to accept a stitch as crooked as that!!who else has a bent stitch from jack???
I said maybe im the only customer who is unhappy but thats hard to believe!!
He said yes i could have done the smg gaitor better!why didn't you??

I can't add anything for the vendor you used, but I got burnt too using Dallas Custom Steering Wheel in the USA for my GT3. Absolutely terrible job. The hard part is finding a vendor who has a machine to do it, not by hand as most aftermarket guys do.

I've used jack over the years, but just recently over the last 6 months I've seen a deterioration in both the products being sent out and his customer service skills. I tried and tried to get a wheel done recently, it was like he didn't want to know.

Ive only just got back from zandvoort 8 hour journey and im on my way to jacks to get this sorted as like a fool i didn't buy a spare wheel at £70 eBay so if it did go wrong i would still have mine.
He has offered to supply me another wheel because he cut mine and do another set of gaitors even he said they look crap!!
Future advice buy a cheap eBay wheel n send that off so if yours ain't bad damaged at least you have a fall back!!

StevenEK, did you deliberately get the red marker on your wheel to match your red trainers with blue socks?
Adem, my wheel needs re-trimming and I'm still inclined to take the risk and send it to Royal. I don't know of any other options and it seems like 50/50 risk is worth the chance. Let me know if you get it resolved.

Issue resolved im not 100% happy but i guess you get what you pay for and for £135 you will probabily end up with my wheel cos he has to palm that off.i got there and he had already retrimmed another wheel guess what ironically the way i wanted it trimmed and the gaitor was close to good
I asked him with this second wheel is this the best you can do?he replied im not a machine and if you want a 400£ retrim im not your man!!!

I popped into Transcal today (Bristol) to ask about a retrim on the CSL wheel. They didnt have any alcantara in stock but recommended that the wheel is retrimmed in Alston suede which is apparently harder wearing than alcantara. I'm waiting for a call back to see if they can get the 9002 alcantara as I want it as close to OEM as possible. They did said that all the CSL wheels they have retrimmed recently have been in this Alston but they didnt have a wheel to show me. If I get my done I'll post up some picks

Snap! The Bristol branch are still struggling to get the alcantara and I'm not convinced they'll get much joy. I was provided with a sample of the alternative suede that I mentioned previously. The colour 'lunar' is not a bad colour match but still not perfect and I'm not convinced it feels the same as the alcantara.

I thought the Alcantara in our cars is just a standardised colour? IIRC code 9002 or 9052?
Should be fine if they're ordering it from the Alcantara SpA themselves.

The Scottish branch of Transcal were quoting me £100 a square metre for 9002 alacantara but they could only order a minimum of 10 metres!

Quick update on wheel front for anyone thinking of getting their wheel re-trimmed by Transcal. I've sourced the 9002 alcantara from UKhide.co.uk for circa £40 as Transcal couldn't get any. The minimum order quantity is 0.5m x 1.4m which Transcal confirmed is sufficient to do one wheel. The alcantara comes in two variants. You need the 'cover' version with a mesh type backing. Transcal are charging £185 to retrim. I'll post up pics once I get it back.

Is 9002 definatly the exact Alcantara code that BMW used, or a very close match that people have accepted over time?
I ask as I have been trying to get a wheel retrimmed, and the place I am thinking of using has done thousands, many BMW, but claim to have never used 9002.
I know 9002 is what Jack uses (used!), but given that transcal and my place don't have 9002, thought this was a bit odd.

Yes 9002 is the correct color code for the alcantara

Cheers for clearing that up.
The mob im in talks with say they use "3-9002 Alcantara cover schwarz (9902)", which I can not make heads nor tails of as a description. I have asked them to send a sampe for me to compare before I bother sending my wheel in.
Once the colour is right, how do you tell which one is correct type of alcantara for the steering wheel? Is there a different backing or something?
Edit: TimCSL had already answered my question You need the 'cover' version with a mesh type backing.
