Hey fellaz !
Name's Darian all the way from south africa, cape town to be exact
Now first things first, I've been petrol head since baby teeth and always had the exposure by family and family friends owning bmw motorsport cars.
My love for bmw started when I was in the early ages of middle school and always knew I had to drive one when I grow up, well I like to think I'm pretty grown up now, but my significant other will probably disagree :hahaha:
Anyway the first bmw I drove after was a friends E30 325iS evo2 (limited to south africa) and that car blew my socks off!! A year down the line I found myself in the same friends E36 M3 and once again was blown away but could only dream about owning these cars at the time.
Then came the e46 M3... Once again a good friend of mine had one and handed me the keys, that is where I knew, stuff this no holding back now and a year later I got my first bmw , a Laguna Seca Blue E46 M3  over the moon I was for a few months then had a little incident and had to let go of her, she was replaced by a golf 6 gti but let's skip that part of my life .
I now own a E82 135i dct M sport with all the bells and whistles, she is an awesome little car but not quite the M3.
But since my e46 I always had this dream of owning the glorious CSL but with there only being 65 in South Africa and a few of them sadly had passed away off the road so finding one was always hell and when you do find one, the guys are asking prices rivaling vital human organs :hahaha:
Bit now I'm in the position to finally live my dream :smt055: I've been searching for a few weeks but what I'm here for is to learn alot more about the csl, I've done plenty of research and know quite a decent amount about one of the greatest cars of all time but as you know, one can always learn something new everyday so that's what I'm hoping to do while I search long and hard for this long load love of mine
Looking forward to learning from you awesome bunch of enthusiasts :supz:

Welcome to the mad house.

I tried to buy a Laguna Seca Blue M3 but there were so few around when I was looking particularly as I did not want satnav (too heavy) but did want Bluetooth (I am not actually sure if that is possible). I then looked for M3 in the launch colour - Phoenix Yellow but again it was hard to find the spec I wanted. In the end I opted for a CSL even though I really wanted a gear stick/ manual M3. Anyway financially it was the right decision.

That plaque does not look like the UK ones although they were probably local purchased by BMW as I think they were an afterthought. Anyone know the answer.

NBTR what is the correct figure for South Africa?

Welcome Darian

A word of advice, don't pay attention to the plates.
They are one-offs from the importers and not from BMW, so the figures are off the mark.

South African cars
60 RHD cars, including 1 “data restricted” test car.

21 (35%) black cars, 3 were delimited and none supplied on double spokes.
39 (65%) silver cars, 12 delimited and none supplied on double spokes.
Thus 25% were delimited all supplied on Y Spoke wheels.

2 CSL debadged.
32 with a green upper strip windscreen.
28 with a climate comfort screen.
All supplied with floor mats, smoker package, headlight washers, Xenon lights, CD, radio, seat belt buzzer.
42 with PDC.
34 with rain sensor.
54 with air conditioning.
4 cars had option S988A which I don’t know what it is.
