Ive just put a deposit down on a CSL, so hope to have it for the weekend, but interested to learn more about the best mods for the car.
Which aftermarket exhausts set ups are held in highest regard?
What are the options, and what are their pros and cons.
straight pipes? xpipes? lightweights? race? sport etc etc

Is it the one at Benham Wolverhampton?
That seems to have disappeared from sale

Depends what you want really:
Quiet/loud, full system, 100 cell cats, track day friendly, etc...
Most popular tend to be Supersprint, Milltek followed by Eissenman, ACS, etc.
OEM is good too but relatively heavy of course when compared to some others.

I don't mind loud so long as the quality of the sound is good. I would also prefer not to be hates by my neighbours, so prefer it to be quieter at low revs.
I had an Eisenmann race on an E92 in the past and that was not too loud, although the cold start was a little antisocial!
Is there ever a gathering of CSL owners where I might get the chance to hear some options?

I have a full Miltek system on mine and it sounds great! Not quite as crisp as the OEM system but with a significantly deeper tone. The only issue I've had is the CEL coming on from time to time, caused by the emissions sensor in the CAT's. This is easily fixed though with a little wifi OBD port plug and an iPhone app to check the code and clear it.
Good luck with the purchase, hope it works out for you!

Supersprint lightweight race - that is all you need.

Does fitting a louder exhaust detract from the intake noise, which is surely one of the reasons for having a CSL?

+1 perfect balance of weight looks and importantly noise (which isn't over the top)!
I initially had a Miltek system and really didn't like it much at all; drone-tastic...
Here's mine with the Supersprint:

Not really - unless you have a GruppeM or straight pipes fitted, i.e. loud!

There was a small gathering last year.

Personally I prefer OEM as the CSL hardly needs any more noise, and the signature CSL sound comes from the front, not the back.

Ive tried full supersprint then mixed and matched with OEM and personally the best noise for me was OEM backbox, Supersprint cats and supersprint non res pipe.

Drive it for a while on the standard box mate,
It's got a great metallic rasp and doesn't sound
Like Kevin and perry driving through the town.
Also it's nice when someone comes up to you at the lights and
Says is that standard mate because it sounds amazing
And you can say yes.
Supersprint race, dixis titanium if you can find one. Stock if you want to hear the air box for awhile longer. Congrats on the purchase.

Too many exhaust modifications make the exhaust sound like a trombone has been stuck on the exhaust, like the 3rd/4th car "M3 BXD" in this clip.
What set up is it? As that is not my cup of tea.
I would like to increase that raspyness without that deeper parpy trombone sound! I'm loving the stock sound but could do with a little more so the same; I think is sounds best when cold where it is particularly raspy, but that quickly dies down once its warm.
Whats the best way of maintaining and enhancing that initial raspy sound once its warmed up, without fundamentally changing the exhaust note?

Change to Supersprint cats.
stock with ss x-pipe if you want rasp. If you want bass and very decent sound its the ss race with stock cat.
If you want light weight and a superior sophisticated noise thats not over the top until you truly open the taps its Dixis.
Video's never do the exhaust justice, so only real way is to either listen to them in person or buy and try.
I was looking to get a SS Race, but never found one in my neck of woods and this Dixis came up. Paid a premium, but dame, every bit as classy and sophisticated as people say throughout the forums. I got my recommendation from my old lambo forum friends who had it on their M3.
In the UK it should be easier to get SS Race, so I'd be going that route if I was looking for more presence, but if you just want rasp, look at an super sprint x-pipe. I had it on my E36 M3 and it rasped like a bitch in a very nice way.

but if I were to pay for the above I'd buy a SS Race used from someone.

I've looked at these videos so many time its not funny and the above seems to provide the best sound on youtube of a SS Race (ignore the shite background music). You can never go wrong with a Supersprint. :hahaha:
there's one forsale on the forum

here's another side by side comparison video. Not the best thing when you are just revving it, but you get the idea that the SS Race has more bass

anyones cesil from here?

more ss race

non of the video's can replicate the actual sound of the exhaust.
I had to take a leap of faith for my DIXIS and dam, its pure music from the cesil + the airbox. In enclosed areas, the exhaust sounds breathtaking for a inline 6. I'd prefer the SS Race as its not titanium (dun have this titanium tinny noise at low revs), but no luck for me in getting one.
As sods law would have it, I got the DIXIS and then the above SS Race appeared :bigcry: I would have brought it and got my mate to bring it back to me. :banghead:

I've also got the Dixus and love the fact you can hear the induction noise and yet the exhaust note sounds amazing.
The Dixus is also mega light and looks a work of art if you can find one?
Cheers Jamie
