So Adem and I picked a E46 M3 up bank holiday weekend in Scotland, BMW kindly lent me a new White M5 which made the journey shorter in time.

She has 54k miles on the clock and all OEM.

Sunday was our only day to fit intrax, AP's, change brake fluid, strip interior, fit seats, harnesses and geo before bedford on Monday.

The seats we ordered failed to get delivered on Friday so had to remove the seats out of the E36, drill new holes in the base and fit.

First removed interior:

Then had to fit door cards

Didn't have time to fit short shifter.

Fitted AP's and Intrax

Ran out of time to fit new bonnet:
http://i1000.photobucket.com/albums/af121/billyboysm3/E46%20M3/IMG_4054_zpsb0594511.jpg

Bought some cups off here but rear was flat as a pancake and doesnt hold air so had to make last minute changes on Friday as wanted to arrive and drive on cups and didnt want to use my CSL rims with new cups for a shakedown at bedford.

Luckily been refurbing these 18's for the last week:
Before:

http://i1000.photobucket.com/albums/af121/billyboysm3/E46%20M3/IMG_3938_zpsc4222bf2.jpg

After some strong acid, shit loads of sanding, and cleaned with fairy liquid:
http://i1000.photobucket.com/albums/af121/billyboysm3/E46%20M3/IMG_3943_zpsf0631c40.jpg

These were supposed to go neon but didnt have the time so a quick trip to halfords and decided to be gay and go boring black:

http://i1000.photobucket.com/albums/af121/billyboysm3/E46%20M3/IMG_3990_zps74bad97f.jpg

All rims fit in the back of the car perfectly for when Adem, Gareth and I go to Zaaaaaaannnnddddvort next month.
http://i1000.photobucket.com/albums/af121/billyboysm3/E46%20M3/IMG_4047_zpsf3b00df8.jpg

Time was now 3pm and didnt have time for some porridge:
http://i1000.photobucket.com/albums/af121/billyboysm3/E46%20M3/IMG_4004_zpsffb04b8c.jpg

Adem took the car to his garage to Geo, but had be someone's body guard at a wedding incase things got out of control, so only managed to Geo the car at 5am monday morning.

The alternator packed up so took two batteries to track and Ctek charger.

Car at Bedford:
http://i1000.photobucket.com/albums/af121/billyboysm3/E46%20M3/IMG_4045_zps2d19bbe9.jpg

Still got loads to do but that was the best we could do in such a short space of time.

Car handles well, just need square set up on cups - and solid bushes all round.

Ive had to relearn all the driving skill from the 328 and completely change my style to accommodate the extra 120 odd hp more in m3!
Shame she don't handle like the vert but as billy said once we bush n stiffen it she will go well!!

So managed to free up some time early Sunday morning to do some more bits.

The main thing was to put the car on our scales and see what the weight distribution was like after removing the interior.

We put her on the scales:
http://i1000.photobucket.com/albums/af121/billyboysm3/E46%20M3/IMG_4155_zpsac5d6ba6.jpg
http://i1000.photobucket.com/albums/af121/billyboysm3/E46%20M3/IMG_4154_zps91b1c592.jpg

and she was 1400kg with 3/4 of a tank with not to bad weight distribution. I thought it would be worse.

http://i1000.photobucket.com/albums/af121/billyboysm3/E46%20M3/IMG_4156_zpse18d1e65.jpg

We then started to remove the front end to put in a electric fan and switch, remove aircon and fit new alternator

http://i1000.photobucket.com/albums/af121/billyboysm3/E46%20M3/IMG_4159_zps513b3b63.jpg

http://i1000.photobucket.com/albums/af121/billyboysm3/E46%20M3/IMG_4160_zpse42ef3d1.jpg

http://i1000.photobucket.com/albums/af121/billyboysm3/E46%20M3/IMG_4167_zpsb125c61f.jpg

This is what was removed - bar the washer bottle
http://i1000.photobucket.com/albums/af121/billyboysm3/E46%20M3/IMG_4165_zpsc507a606.jpg

Then when put back together:

http://i1000.photobucket.com/albums/af121/billyboysm3/E46%20M3/IMG_4171_zps96d2ab89.jpg

We then put the car back on the scales and it was 1380kg.

Car has OEM exhaust and still loads of work to do and bits to fit.

Jamie managed to refit a cup on my csl rims and a slick tyre that I managed to blister badly last time at bedford.

Going for a run out at Bedford on the 7th to see how she handles on CUPS before we fit reinforcement plates and new solid bushes.

So took car for its 2nd track day ever, after electric fan and switch, oil and water temps were perfect all day, was short shifting at 6k revs as want to ease the old girl into it.

Ran with sport off by mistake, does it actually make any difference?

Also told the misses we were going out for the day, she was well chuffed we ended up at Bedford :)

Wanted to run my 19 inch csl rims to see how much different the two cars are, my cups were f*cked to begin with and they didn't like the heat on Monday.

Track felt slower than a few weeks ago, heres a video of the old girl using my bullet cam, was doing 2.46/2.47 all day but couldn't hook up a virtual best of 2.44

Enjoy:

Oh, best set up is defo 18 inch square set up on cups, should never of sold them to Lawsy

I'd be interested now to see if your M3 time is better than CSL time at Snett. The cars must now be about same power/weight, same suspension, cups.

Not yet it isn't, it just doesn't handle the same, steering rack maybe, stiffer bushes and square set up, as per the video I was wrestling with the steering but was on 19inch rims, the Csl is complete out of the box, then intrax and bbk finishes it off.

This thing is stripped and doesn't have it, it's good but not like letting a Csl loose on track.

Going to run square set up next and see, I think I could do 2.12 at snett really going for it but miles off that big 2.10!!!!

Fucking mega times shimmy at Bedford and snetterton, really good bench mark and anyone that can get near them is a very good driver.

Going to make sure I get tuition from mike wilds at Bedford and snett

Cheers Billy....all it was esp at Snett was crossing the line between driving hard under control and then getting the car out of shape and driving harder

It's not about treating it harder it's just having the car loose under you. I can't do it out of the box but it does come back to me when in the groove,

I think he square set up isnt any quicker (maybe a tiny bit on the brakes) but it suits us novice drivers as it stops the understeer for us, whereas a pro driver or some one who has mastered the technique can get the car turned without overheating the fronts.ONeill can drive the OeM sizes quick.

billyboysm3

The m3s heavy up front, with some more weight removed im sure turn in will be improved as the 328 turns in better.

Not done snett for well over a year in a m3 so will get one booked in the next couple of months. Would be good to go back to see how I have improved.

I'll let you and Barry know some dates. Ill see if I can get funkster out also.

Got mine back today after a few weeks at Elms for some free storage and a loan of a X1, 430, M5 and 525MSport.

A little bit of warranty work done thata Gareth found before he left and Emma and Dan kindly sorted in the usual kind, efficient and thoughtful way. Many thanks to them.

I uploaded my Vbox data from 2 weekends ago at knockhill and compared with the CSL data from the other month. (my csl is std bar AP's)
The new car is 5mph slower up the main straight, 2mph slower on the back straight and slower by about 7mph down through Duffus.
Now a lot of this could be down to the fact I just need to learn how to drive this car as never had a car with anything other than near factory settings however I did think that with the spec of the car it would easily match the CSL times.
Saying that I've just discovered a Vanos issue so that might explain the lack of power.

All in all the CSL is superb out the box and a std M3 needs to work really hard to get anywhere close.

Just done 2nd track night in m3 first was a diaster due to wheels rubbing inner arches. Best time was 1.9 secs down on csl, m3 is 8 mph down on my best time on main straight in csl, 112 was max speed last night. Car is going well but water temp was a bit high but would drop down quickly after cool down lap

So, Adem fitted Evo pulleys, rear spoiler, adjusted front camber to -5, didn't have time to fit bonnet :(

With the rear spoiler looking mean I fitted my black square set CSL rims.

Went to Snetterton Monday, not been in a M3 for well over 1.5 years, so got tuition first thing. After the fog cleared at 10.45am, we were let on track, mixed track conditions, car was on song and felt really solid through Riches and Coram. In the dry this car should be able to put in a very quick lap, its far quicker than my ability.

Here's a few pictures and 15min of my clearest track time, with all sorts of track weapons on, you can see all the time is made up through the twisties.

The csl was shit all day i just couldn't get it all working together!!
I don't know where i went wrong!!
Got to track set the camber at -3 deg put the cups at 30 psi and set the suspension to full hard.
Bearing in mind i haven't used it on track since donny last year i weren't sure what was what so heated the tyres got them kinda working(2012)brand new cups!then i came in and backed the rear suspension bump by 4 clicks from hard this time the car got really sloppy around the track so came in to find the cups had shot to 38psi so dropped the pressure tightened the suspension by 2 clicks wow it started to really work!!!!
Found a new problem as i got to the first corner the brake was hard then it just dropped to the floor thats why i had my foot on the brake even going round the first corner cos the car didn't slow!!it stayed like that so i was limping the car around as billy caught me up i tried to get past the old bimmer who shut the door on me think was Hamilton thats where it all ended billy was up my ass this old bimmer refused to move i hit fourth billy flew by i went home!!!

As for driving skill bear in mind billies done 10-12 times snetterton that was my second attempt so pretty heart broken it happened but billies a much better driver then me its proven so i need to practice more.

Adem, don't beat yourself up.

You drive really well, after we sorted tyre pressures the Csl gripped, the conditions didn't help.

Also I have been a stupid amount of times and had tuition. Also had tuition first thing that morning. Making sure I'm at full power coming out of bends to the straights.

It's your first full day there. You set the M3 up, geo, corner weight, ride height etc so massive thanks to you as she had a stupid amount of grip left that my talent could not handle.

Yes I did pass but only because i knew how to get the best from that corner. Shame i didn't have a go pro in the rear as you did well following me for the next couple of laps.

I'll help get you there, it's just seat time, tuition, seat time, tuition and fun.

Shimmy wasn't born quick, he has had to work for it.

When I first went to snetterton with shimmy and the boys I was like a rabbit in headlights.

Roll on 2nd nov at snetterton and we're learn those lines.

Does anyone here actually rate Snetterton? I really disliked it when I went in the Noble. When you're on the track it just seems to be
straight,

180° constant radius,

.

Too true, im pretty average but have worked hard at the CSL. I get in another car and I go back to being a billy and have to learn again. Sometimes i get in the CSL and im on the pace, sometimes it takes me all day to get to 90% of where i was last time out.

As ONeill says we are all billys and if we were good we would know it. 83SY is good. Im just trying extra hard.

Tuition doesnt always work, doesnt always work straight away and sometimes it can just make sense and take you up a level in understanding.

It lacks a couple of good mid speed corners and i think is an average track for the UK. Racers like it as it has a bit of everything and you can overtake. Best part is the Esses through to the back of Coram which is very technical i think and in think you may have missed out on your synopsis above :)

Perhaps... that was the bit where the Noble made a really awful noise. Maybe it's worth another look. I like variety and it felt a bit samey to me. Funnily enough didn't think it was bad at all when I was there on the bike, probably due to the exact reasons I didn't like it in a car!

Shimmy don't you have the fastest laptime round Spa or am I thinking of 83SY?

No it was the 300 both times. I came away thinking the Noble was crap on track but had an absolute hoot on the Silverstone GP earlier this year.

Unfortunately I had too much of a hoot on the way back to the hotel at the ring a couple of weeks later and now I need a new gearbox :(

This is why I'm suddenly considering a couple of CSL trackdays...

Track day at snetterton yesterday. Half dryish track and other half, wet, damp, greasy.

Went for goodyears in the end. Gave a good compromise.

Took a good 6 laps to get heat into them.

After Adem fitted front splitter and bonnet car was very planted, best turn in the cars had.

With -5.5 front camber and on 19inch square set up turn in, in the wet was fun but the car was still balanced and felt bloody good.

Got instruction and really pushed the car. Had loads of unexpected sideways moments round riches, coram and turning in under the bridge. Never span and kept it all under control.

The pit straight stayed wet all day but had a dry line just after turn in by the right rumble strip.

Had greAt grip all through middle section and entry onto back straight. Then from back straight to pit straight it didn't dry out.

Adems set the car up just how I want it and it's turning into a weapon.

Snetterton staff walked down, and once hearing about the woman hitting people with her crash helmet, one of the guys immediately said right that's it I'm going to throw them out. At 3:30pm I can't imagine they were too fussed, it would be nice if they could be banned from any future track days, at Snetterton at least although all MSV circuits would be even better, but I can see why that would be difficult.

Since picking the car up with 4.1 diff I went to Bedford GT on Sat.

Martin track M3 sorted the diff, I got the 4.1 CWP from BMW and Adem fitted the diff.

Still got all the AKG stuff to fit & H&R anti roll bars.

Its stayed dry all day :)

Ive not driven the car for 3 months since the last track day.

I have to say the 4.1 diff is one of the best mods bang for buck, up there with decent coilovers and AP's.

I have read about 1st and 2nd gear in a 4.1 useless but thats all crap, all I know is this thing pulls like a train and suited my driving style.

I went with Dirty perv john in a standard M3, josh in a stripped out M3 and Shimmy,

Shimmys got some footage folliwng me.

Here are two video's, one just having some fun against track prept E9x M3, M5 and Rs4 and then my best lap of the day, was a 2.48 and held up about 3-4 seconds, theoretical best 2.44. Track wasn't grippy and a fine line between keeping it on the black stuff. Can easily go quicker as in the morning I was using my wet lines and in these vids tried to keep it nice and tight.

I was driving about 85% of my ability and had loads in reserve. Managed to blister the rears, not sure if that was cutting the kerbs on the back chicane. Need some new tyres.

Only mods car has is AP's, Intrax, Diff, pulleys, aero and bonnet which I got black flagged for a the bloody thing never wanted to stay down.

My gopro ran out of space so used iphone was has a dodgy camera.

great going Billy, it was really hard to stay in touch around a big chunk of the track, you were moving with some great pace, turning in very early and on certain corners, just pulling away.

occassionally you even drove on the track between the white lines :hahaha:

there was nothing out there faster all day as far as I could make out, 7RS, E92 (with wings), GTR, Evos......all stayted nicely behind us.

Poor old AMG Merc got some fade and ended straight lining the hairpin by the LPG tank and luckily found the mound rather than the gas tank!!

My fastest was also a 2m48 which on the new layout i reckon is about equivalent to a 2m44 so we both were a little slower than best but loads of traffic and limited runs tbh plus a far to close a call with a tyre wall

I did indeed.

Despite it being dry there wasn't a great amount of grip on some of the faster corners.

I was pushing the car each lap to see what grip it had.

First dry track day completed in over a year in the uk

That was a good session we had . Shame about traffic. I learnt a great deal as only really done that track in the wet so had to change my lines and get on it to keep you away from my rear bumper.

Quality day though. Good laugh and banter.

What was that undertake all about at the end of the main straight :bigcry: ?

Some nice considerate driving around the slower cars :).

Rear rebound damping on the track-slag looks like it isn't quite right, as it appears to be skipping about under acceleration?

Adem just called me say this car is insane. Animalistic, like mike Tyson with two cocks.

Martin, he loves the akg gearbox mounts.

Says with the solid control arms, and akg solid coupler make the steering so precise.
Like a go kart.

I'm running hard h and r up front and soft on rear.

With the lightweight clutch he says the car just flex's it's muscles.

Been distracted of late, front end of the track car ready but still got to weld the plates in and fit AKG solid bushes, missed out on a couple of track days which Im annoyed about.

Bought some new genuine rims for the CSL with Goodyear Eagle F1's and front bumper and splitters getting a rub down and painted.

Binned the slicks for the track car as want to learn how to drive it properly on road tyres. So trying out CUP2 with the OEM 18's stripped and painted in gloss black.

Putting OEM bonnet back and removing wings for these carbon fibre ones.

Going to try and get on track at Snett on the 17th Sept.

Holy fuck!!!! Just picked car up from Adem, last time I drove it, it was pretty much oem bar coilovers and AP's and 4.1 diff.

The 50 miles home was insane. All akg solid bushes, h and r anti roll bars, rear control arms, solid control mounts, akg shifter, lightweight flywheel clutch, tie rod arms, sparco steering wheel and solid steering coupler, all from Martin, track m3.

The car connects up to the road so well, I love the noise, not over the top. Akg ahifter is awesome, steering is like a go kart, pretty heavy with minimal movement.

Back to Bedford to see how the car handles. Been to Bedford about 5 times now, 3 in this M3. And last track day here. Then off to donny which I've done once before.

Pretty confident that this will be able to hook Bedford up much better than before.

Bedford GT went really well, the car balance is insane. Managed to do lots of 4/5 lap sessions tweaking the tyre pressures and intrax settings. Managed to find the best one's after lunch.

The turn in is like a go kart, I didn't really push the car hard, mainly short shifted and tried different lines.

After session 4 my go pro ran out of battery, had a good video of Jada and his mate in his M3.

3 points of the track where the mods really benefited:
(Akg Solid bushes/engine trans mounts, steering coupler, new arms, H&R anti roll bars front and rear) was the fast right turn after the pits to the main straight. I could take this flat out in 5th but pushed right hand wheels nearly onto the curb. In the end I maintained gas and nailed it when the steering was at a less acute angle.

Chicane at the back straight, I exited the hairpin in 3rd and was taking really tight karting lines as the front end had so much grip, set the H&R front bar to hard and rear to soft. I think I can run rear harder.

I found shifting down to 4th to do the chicane cost me MPH and tended to take it in 5th and carry the speed whilst staying in track limits. MSV marshalls were on top form.

I didnt take the mickey stamping on the brakes first off as didn't fancy miss shifting the AKG Shifter before the turn in. Next time out I could brake halfway between the brake board and turn in cone.

Solid AKG steering coupler with new track rod arms and Bimmer world solid control mounts gave me such precise steering, no play what so ever.

Then the back end of the circuit after the hairpin the car just hooks up the the right hander and quick left, left hander, virtually no roll or lack of front end grip and able to get on power early.

AKG Trans / Engine mount and solid bushes make the car flex, they do give loud cabin noise when warm but the car doesn't move and the balance and confidence through the corners means cornering faster is easy. This car is so easy to drive.

Lightweight fly wheel clutch does chatter when hot, I love it, not sure you want it in a road car.

Martin track m3 supplied all the AKG, H&R parts and my mate Adem fitted all the bits.

I ran -4.5 camber up front and -2.2 on the rear.

Car is still on full fat oem exhaust so will change that over to Superspint cats, non res pipe and miltek back box.

Had a play with a GT3 on here, 3.40 in:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOoZBoMkCYI

My first session in car on cold slicks, car has so much grip, effortless driving:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XKJ7G3liBM

Session 2 with Jada in car:
Drop psi, found the limit on front end grip at 9min 20 seconds.

Session 3, one of my clients arrived in a f12 berlinetta so thought id take him for a spin

Track is flat but right on my doorstep. Think that was the 5th time for me at Bedford, 3rd in this M3 so knew the best way round. Tried to take less speed into comers and get on power quicker more like shimmys lines.

Adem took it for a blast and said it was a animal. I drove it to work yesterday as it's bloody fun to drive.

Akg shifter and smaller wheel just add to the fun.

Also, why did you ditch the CF bonnet?

Also, why did you ditch the CF bonnet?

I wanted a OEM fit and got some bonnet grills to go in.

I can only compare it to the CSL with intrax, AP's and cups on square set up.

First off with exactly the same mods the M3 was a bit off the pace, just didn't turn in as well and handle the faster high speed turns.

Since diff, aero, all new solid bushes Id say it is quicker and more stable than the CSL. I find the car effortless to drive. I didn't even push it at Bedford and knew it was quicker from the first session.

Also with the 4.1 diff I am exiting the hairpins in 3rd and short shifting all the way to 6th, so not needing to thrash it, where as other M3's Ive followed on track are in 2nd all the way to 5th on a long straight.

The CSL does have the edge over about 110mph and starts to come back on the straights.

Overall Im really happy that this car corners like a go kart.

Bit of a update.

So since my last update I went to snetterton and didn't finish my warm up session. I managed to kill the gearbox, car grinds in 3rd. By the time I drove it home it was also second gear.

So the car has been with Bartletts in huntingdon, it had cracks either side of the subframe. They used the redish plates and filled with resin. Did a awesome job. I could feel the difference straight away.

They told me I was lucky on that last track day as my rear brake lines were passed Awful.

Whilst this was taking place I needed to think about what I want to use the car for, so decided to remove the akg solid bushes as I want a car I can drive as a daily if need be as I sold the CSL end of October.

I replaced the AKG with powerflex yellow. I went for yellow as I want as much flex in the car as possible. This car performed superbly on oem bushes and that's what I am after especially as I only manage to do wet track days. I got them to replace the diff bolt at the same time.

Gareth fitted CAE shifter so managed to get a deal on it whilst sourcing a second hand SMG gearbox. Mines manual but this should of had a easier life. The CAE shifter is awesome. Managed about 500 road miles so cannot wait to get it on track.

I also decided to remove the light weight flywheel and clutch and put back in a oem clutch and flywheel.

As the gearbox was off they changed the akg trans mounts to vibra technics. Did the same with the engine mounts. I went for the competition ones.

Bartletts also removed the front splitter and rear wing and fitted rear carbon diffuser and front carbon full length splitter.

I have ordered a karbonius airbox from Martin, then bought the CSL flap and all other bits from BMW to get the flap working.

I got a sheet of carbon fibre for the radio plate delete and sending the kick plates to mark to carbon fibre.

Since running the removable wheel I had the horn put in the carbon radio delete plate.

I removed the oem exhaust and fitted a miltek back box. So now running supersprint cats, oem centre section and miltek back box.

The car is at my mates garage for paint. I've told him to take it back to showroom condition and spray my new Genuine OEM CSL bootlid. Ordred that as a spare before I sold the car :) Then got LED rear lights going on.

I removed my DTM mirrors as want the car the stay silver and you cannot see anything out of them.

After going this far I thought it was only fair to treat her to some new shoes. I really fancied the apex arc 8 but decided to order two sets of team dynamics in silver so the car always looks clean. They are on a back order and not ready till middle or April :(

All my track day rims have been black for years so fancied a change.

I ordered some uniroyal rainsport 3 265 35 18 for one set and bit the bullet and bought some 265 35 18 dunlop 03g for the other set. So I can arrive and drive and not **** about changing rims. I can compare these to the cups now. I've ran the 02g before so if these are better. Which they will be, I'll be happy.

Won't be able to test these with shimmy and barry or at Bedford as like a idiot sold all my rims as thought the new sets were only a 5 week wait.

Ben at hack engineering supplied a beautiful stud, nut and locking wheel kit. I'll then put 10mm spacers all round.

I have no doubt that even though I have softened the car up when it gets to a track it will still be a weapon. I've been driving it in awful weather and it is awesome.

I put it on the scales before it went off for paint and weighs in at 1355kg with half a tank of fuel and full washer fluid bottle. All sound deadening is still in, with that removed and quarter of a tank it would be good to loose another 20kg.

Car now has these bits on it:

Intrax 1k2
AP's all round with RS29, performance friction front discs and AP rears.
Supersprint Cats
Miltek back box
Bucket seats with harnesses
Carpet in the front
Automac door cards
Solid steering coupler
Bimmerworld solid control bushes
Aircon removed
H&R anti roll bars front and rear
Quick release steering wheel
Front splitter and rear diffuser
Rear control arms
New brake lines
Reddish plates and resin injected
Powerflex yellow subframe bushes and RTAB
CAE shifter
New uniroyal and Dunlop 03G's for square set up.
4.1 diff.

Will upload pictures when I get it back in a couple of weeks.

Ok, this M3 is set up perfectly, all mods have been great, you have followed me at Bedford and it corners really well.

4.1 is a fantastic mod.

The CSL has always had more power it feels up the rev range, say past 100 mph. With this M3 having no engine mods I think the CSL would just have that extra acceleration up the back straight. Im still changing gear at 7k revs to be nice to her.

With the rear wing removed I was 10 mph faster on the back straight hitting over 140mph. I think your CSL does that with ease on your fast lap.

My CSL dyno'd at 382 bhp and the other CSL's with maps are probably up near that.

Id say this might dyno at 300-320 bhp.

For it to really piss all over a tricked up well driven CSL it will need maybe cams and airbox and map, need another 20-30bhp.

Im sure it will stick quite close to yours and Barry's CSL bumper at the moment, well yours as Barry's is OEM.

When are you both next on track? Silverstone or Snett?

Should have rims middle to end of April.

Also what do you think is possible lap time at Snetterton in the CSL now, say average lap time, depending on temp and track conditions.

Your 2.10 is a monster time, could be done in a race car but think this car is to heavy.

Last full TD at Snett I was 2,15 in the damp/drizzle on slicks.

But before the gearbox failure first session was the quickest Ive ever been round but no go pro footage.

So went to Snetterton yesterday to try out the Dunlop 03G.

What a awesome road legal tyre.

Mixed conditions, damp, dry, sunny, sleet then rain.

Heres a picture of first session:

So got to try the tyres on a drying track.

Really impressed with the damp grip and especially on the road.

As good as full fat cups if not better.

Compared to the slicks you cannot carry as much speed into the corner and have to brake earlier.

On my last session I had these squealing around Riches and Coram when the track was colder.

Being able to arrive and drive was pretty cool.

I didn't manage to have any clear laps but judging by this I can do 2.15 in traffic with a 2.13 best.

Id say with more tuition and a warmer day a 2.11 is achievable.

Not quite on Shimmy's and Barry's pace but getting closer.
No engine mods or maps.

So sent ecu off to mike, mike did his thing and I went to his Saturday.

I had Csl snorkel so wanted a working flap.

Mike was a sound genuine guy and the map and the way the car pulls is insane.

It has totally transformed the car especially up the Rev range and pushing on.

Comparing it to my Csl this m3 is bloody quick, the Csl was 383bhp on the dyno, I wouldn't know what this is but can really feel the difference and smoothness when giving it full beans.

Looking forward to Donny and then Snetterton after that.

Fitted LED rear lights. And had some bits turn up at work today and finally managed to open the box that Ben at Hack Engineering sent me about 5 months ago with some decent locking nuts and stud set as want to run 10mm spacers all round.

My new anti rattle clips turned up with anti squeal Shims to hopefully stop the pads moving about. As the rears are doing my head in.

The car on track and on the road has perfect readings on oil and coolant but it's never been great in traffic and fed up turning heaters on in summwr. After going on the Mishimoto site and reading through their tests the rad and electric fan out perform the E46 OEM cooling system. As I'm driving to Donny thought I'd order the Rad and fan with shroud plus probe.

They look awesome and weigh nothing.

Also got a new exhaust going on for Donny, so running the same set up I ran on the CSL.

Changed the oil and been using some additive last couple of times. Seems to of made the engine quieter.

Took car for a spin last night. It's bloody rapid.

Fitted new rear anti rattle clips and some anti squeal pads to stop rear brakes rattling around.

Left the car ticking over for about 45min and Mishimoto rad and fan kept car nice and cool.
Fan kicks in at 80•

Previous electric fan and OEM rad would take 5 min then needle would start rising which is no good in traffic.

So absolutely well chuffed. Managed a good 45 min blat this morning to make sure car was running fine before the 2 hour treck to Donny on Friday.

New Mishimoto Rad and Electric Fan with probe really does help maintain and keep the temperature down.

In traffic it sits maximum a couple of mm off centre to the left but when driving sits just above quarter.

Previous set up was OEM rad and electric fan and makes this seem mickey mouse considering mine used to overheat in traffic after a few min when hot and have to have heaters on.

Supersprint lightweight race sounds just as good as I remember, great around town and combined with airbox sounds lovely pushing on. Saved another 5kg probably. So running supersprint cats and OEM centre section to save a few db.

Finally the knocking of the rear RS29's has stopped, put new anti rattle clips in and mintex Anti squeal 3M pads. Managed to get heat into the pads and thank the lord they do not knock anymore.

Car feels so much smoother through the gears and will be good to see what the straight line speed is like on track as always short shifted on track days, maybe the car was running rough before and didn't feel right when ringing its neck out and just got used to it. The car has never felt fast in a straight line till now.

Will be nice to see what its like compared to the other M3's at Donny as Ive based my build on this car being able to handle better than the CSL on Intrax and AP's.

Mishimoto rad and electric fan kept water down all day.

Car felt amazing, think by the last session I fully worked it out. Really want to go back now.

I managed 187 track miles yesterday. So 90+ laps. With a couple of warm ups but tended to do minimum of 3 and sometimes 5 cool down laps to perfect lines and keep off brakes.
Just under 400 for the day, 100 miles to track, 100 miles back. Blast back with john was a laugh. Found a KFC on route so I was happy.

I ran for me a conservative geo, only -3.2 upfront. Which I knew by the end of the day I would muller the front passenger left due to rising the kerbs after craners and the blind right turn before back straight.

Morning started off Damp and I found the track didn't really runner in.

I bought a infra red temperature gauge and found on my setup I only had a difference of 10 Celsius from inner to outer edge in front and rear.

I just couldn't get a good amount of heat into them, played with 26 hot, 28 hot, 30 hot, then ran at 25 hot. Was taking 3 laps to get ready.

Had a good spin/drift on first lap of a session on cold slicks by Mcleans, braked hard, turned in and rear over took the front, nailed throttle, let go of wheel (andy walsh thought me that)
Then ended up going straight on.

Unlike Ade, in the gravel trap.

This is the first track day since airbox and supersprint race. For me they just completed my build as this whole build has been based on the feel and noise from my old Csl on track.

Even though I ran slicks the dunlop 03G would do that.

I managed to record 90% of the day and had most cars on, only the first session filmed the correct way. All my other footage is of Me driving like this.

Here are a few other pictures from the day.

Mine and johns. Went out with john twice. By the end of the day john really impressed me. Very quick, I watch him display some good skills on track.

If you want to watch loads of videos of my head this is the only one I have that's forward facing. I'm gutted as had some really good sessions, one had about 10 M3's on and Ariel atom :(

This is 2nd session, out of pits behind this lot, cold ish slicks and track getting some heat into it. Has black m3, silver grey m3 and m3 cup car. Had a chat with Luke after, really nice guy. Hopefully I can get racing one day when the kids are older.

Enjoy

Superb pic of John's and yours.

Sounds like you've got the car set up 100%

We must sort a euro tour ASAP.

Changed discs and pads over. Had a touch as had a new set of front pads and bells lying around so was quicker to swap over.

Disc's didn't actually look the best: Inside looked the same with a few big cracks. Snapped a set of discs before and not again.

Fitted:

My anti squeal pads lasted 100 road miles, 87 laps of Donny and the 100 mile drive home.

So had a look to see what state they were in as started to knock:

Stuck the new pad on:

This is the stuff I put in with the oil:

My steering has a bit of play after Donny and need to fit some new wishbones as ball joint knackered.

Gave the old bird a clean:

Looks really nice Billy.

Really not sure you need the oil additive. I've always been against them. Regular oil/filter changes will do all the protection you'll ever need. Damage only starts after the oil breaks down.

Out at Snetterton on the Monday 26th, are you racing at the weekend before?

So when both wishbones were removed we found someone fitted aftermarket passenger side wishbone. So the drivers side was still ok after 59k miles and the aftermarket one had failed in probably less than 10k miles.

Both were replaced with OEM Wishbones. Steering feel is now perfect.

Went back to a more track orientated geo front and rear.

Car is looking great Billy

I stuck 2 new OEM wishbones onto mine the beginning of the year. Pricey but worth it.

Think Snettertons got a whole lot grippier, I killed the dunlops last time out with poor geo and knackered wishbone. Used the settings for cups, -3.2 front and -2.2 rear.

Ill run slicks.

Paul > defo worth it, with all these things, buy cheap buy twice

Seems cheap but slicks = knackered wishbones, worn joints, worn diff, prop and possible cracks......cars not mean to take the stress billy

You should be pretty quick now the amount of TD you've done over the last year.

After 87 laps of Donny I made a coffee table for work with these:

http://i1000.photobucket.com/albums/af121/billyboysm3/IMG_3716_zpsx9la7cxc.jpg

Geo was very conservative for slicks.
