Update
So since last couple of track days, steering and braking was all over the place. With new wishbones and discs and pads car was so nicely balanced today at Snetterton.

I've been using my iPhone on and off and go pro and I never seem to record the right bits.

Sorted out some decent camber again.

Before today I wanted to work on a couple of places at snettetton to maintain speed, first was riches and the other was at coram. I thought that of I can just dab the brakes into riches and turn in hard like karting i can maintain a high apex speed.

I never seem to have perfect conditions, was losing the front end at riches all the time.
Outside temp was 15• and just could get heat into the slicks.

I ran wide into the grass a couple of times at near 100mph.

Also from the bridge to the back straight as little brake as possible and virtual flat out through bomb hole and coram. Coram was 100+ in 5th gear for me.

I got to follow John round today, his driving is now bang on the money, was able to keep me honest. All the seat time has paid off. Also what's cool is that these are both road legal and normal looking cars.

I smashed the 2.09 barrier loads, lapping 2.10-2.13 in traffic, and 2.15 -2.16 in heavy traffic.

I reckon on a day with sunshine a 2.06 is do able, I had it flashing up but never had a clear run, very few clear laps.

Racestudio says if I wasn't such a pussy my best that day if I hooked it up was so so close to a 2.06

Stock engine BMW M with airbox, Intrax 1k2, AP's, 4.1 diff. Car weights 1355kg with half tank of fuel, no driver.

The pink is the quicker lap followed by the black.
The blue on the track shows where I was quicker on previous laps.
The red is where I aced it.

So 5 corners to work on.

The 2.09 was following John in traffic. Epic driving.
You can see on the right that I had no clear laps.

Looks like the lap was achieved from as early on as the first hairpin.

Outside temp was 15*, track temp was cold and could not get heat into the tyres.

My theoretical best with this data was a 2.07.057, so close to a very late 2.06. Easy said than done.

Im in 3rd gear on the hairpins and 4th gear on Hamilton, Palmer and Williams, and 5th round Riches and Coram so not thrashing the car keeping it nice and balanced.

For those two laps the slower 2.09 one was 1 ft longer. So similar lines but most time made up breaking under bridge and from bomb hole.

Think it was 65metres shorter than the 2.99 miles.

Last time on dunlops front wishbone gone, track less grip than Monday, Only got data for one session from iPhone which wasn't best.

Either tracks got grippier or I'm now smooooother with the car.

I have owned the car for over two + years, my aim was to build a car quicker than my previous CSL round a track.
I have acheived this over these two + years, started with a nice low millage manual example.
I drove to Scotland and back as it had to be right. 5 hours each way.
Car has been meticulously maintained, serviced every 2 trackdays, had new plugs, alternator, coilpacks, battery, steering arms,
Mishimoto rad and electric fan, OEM wishbones, every bush has been replaced with powerflex yellow along with the dreaded subframe with redish plates and resin injected in by Bartletts. At the same time they changed the brake fluid and rear brake lines.
To make the car a proven weapon on track I have added these upgrades, it was all about corner speed and getting on the power early.

AP Calipers front and rear with brand new RS29 front pads (1 TD old) and rear pads (2 TD old).

Car is very clean inside and out. Body work bar a few places with some surface/rust bubbles on
front wings and rear as you would expect with age.
I have not painted these as id rather you see it as it is.

Price £21,500. You could not build this car for that in 2nd hand parts.
This car needs nothing. Great for euro trips, driving to work and out performing other M3’s.
Anyone that has been on track with me will know this car is setup superbly at no expense spaired.

It wasn't loud a few weeks ago, think it was 95DB, increased revs very very slowly.

So I had the car on the dyno this morning as I thought it dropped power with 02 sensor out.

I am no dyno guro, it's different from my last one.

It's 302hp at the rear wheels and 354nm

Hey, you should be able to pick up the lines in 6 laps as passenger then two sessions and you'll have mastered it. By 3pm I expect you to be 2m 51s (road tyres) and by 6pm you'll either be sub 2m48 or awaiting the flat bed standing just off race line at B2 :)

Yes all that is coming out, all wiring that's not needed is coming out.
New recaro spg's going in and scroth harnesses. It will be like your csl inside but no stereo and front cage.

Should be able to offset most of it. It's 75kg so heavy. Will probably weight in around 1350. I'm keeping all oem windows etc.

Still check what you have covering the doors Billy, going form a 40kg steel door protecting you to a flimsey thin light door is a reduction is safety, you want a cage that takes lateral side impacts

Are you saying that carbon fibre is weak and not safe, these doors are made by BMW motor sport and have a oem motor sport part number, these are the same doors that are fitted to the e46 m3 gtr, I think they would of been tested and are RARE as hens teeth and cant wait to fit my ones to my road car, anyway fancy meeting up for a track day some time this year I miss your banter, Regards

Lovely doors, don't get me wrong,

Just do Remember a massive difference in cage designs and strengths, all MSA, but any thin skin lwt door will make side impact protection much less so do check cage quality of fitting.

Didn't matter on TD as nobody will ram you from side but if off racing it is worth thinking about

BmW motorsport do not have minimum standard MSA cages, seats, seat mounts.

Lovely doors, don't get me wrong,

Just do Remember a massive difference in cage designs and strengths, all MSA, but any thin skin lwt door will make side impact protection much less so do check cage quality of fitting.

Didn't matter on TD as nobody will ram you from side but if off racing it is worth thinking about

BmW motorsport do not have minimum standard MSA cages, seats, seat mounts.

Then really pleased with the weight distribution, car heavier on 10j slicks, more fuel, fire extinguisher, full water bottle, fully loaded.
My aim was to come in lighter than a the CSL, but have full cage and look classy inside.

Car passed it's MOT and now on 61k miles.

Collecting in next couple of days, then off to the bodyshop for Ali/Steven's rear arch mod and sort any rust spots out. Thought as I'm running 10j's on 270 wide slicks I'll do this before any track days.

Really looking forward to feeling how the 140/70 springs are
On the road and track. Everyone seems to think it's a weird rate, let's hope intrax/Martin/shimmy know there shit and on track they come alive. I've got 120miles to do in them so will update.

So I used Snett to get the car in the sweet spot.

Here is a video first thing on soft setup entering Riches at 93mph.

Now I did this also around Coram. I spent the day gradually increasing the clicks to get it where I wanted it.

I used the same consistent speed each time to feel what happens rather than over braking etc.

Probably learnt more that day than 3 TD's worth of hooning around.

The car is very stable, has no aero and weighs in a smidge heavier than a CSL.

Absolutely buzzing to get back on track now, the car now has a new level to it that I want to learn how to get to.

Coram, after the bomb hole I either do 2 things:

1st nail it to 102 mph on the click and gradually come off throttle to settle the car or 2nd keep throttle pinned to 95mph on the clock all the way round, so slower first off but quicker at the bottom.

Riches, end of pit straight is either late brake and turn in or use the line on the pit straight to use brakes lightly then turn in and on power.

Your need to build up to it.

So, the cars not felt right since the cage and springs, despite numerous geo's it just wants to pull left and try and kill me. Its got grip but likes to snap.

After speaking to Ray and hearing glowing reviews I booked in with Matt from Spires.

I explained to Matt over the phone the problems I was having on track, we went through everything.

First off was to get the car in the air and check everything was ok, like a surgeon would do before he performs his magic.

Matt then took the wheels off, we found drivers front spring was pretty much compressed.
He bought it down 23mm, then made sure anti roll bar was flat.

From my 80 miles back home the car no longer wants me to wipe out pedestrians.

What I liked is that Matt asked me what I was after, talks through all changes he is doing and why. He loved my enthusiasm, that must of been after 3 coffees.

So looking forward to trying this car on track and would highly recommend him.

Malc's (birthday boy's) new bttc slicks should still fit fine under the arches.

Poorly set up.

Drivers spring was 23mm compressed, wonky arb, car steered to the left.

I just drove it like a go kart.

I put slicks on first thing, did some laps to make sure no rubbing, Mike let me drive for 15 min then he drove for last 15min.

Before lunch the rear tyres just didn't get the heat in I wanted, after lunch they came into the zone, got them to 114•.

Great track and please on my 4th time there got to drive it in the dry.

Im on here from 7min for a couple of min, Rays mate Dave arrives with 600bhp cozzie and have some 4 way carnage down the back straight as the Red E36 has a poor exit. I let Dave by at 8.26 to see what its got.

Then I slow down and wait for the cup car, Dave does a nice block at 14.20.

So got some jobs going down in the next few months.

First up when I got the car out the garage after silverstone it sounded like a tank.

My mishimoto rad had come loose on the drivers side and fallen down, the electric fan must of spent most of its time on the pulley and mullered the back of the fan and wires.

Need to stay off the kerbs.

Sold my 9J's and now running 10J all round on the road on Uniroyals, then 10J on track.

Malcs mounting me up some fresh rubber.

Last few days Ive had bad fuel starvation 1/4 tank at Snett and just under half at Silverstone, Im only going to get quicker so was going to go down bimmerworld kit route but decided thats to pony for this car.

Ordered this Radium Kit from Ben, looks the nuts, made properly and does not effect the oem gauge.

Going to do some preventive maintenance and change head gasket and shells. Got some ARP bolts off Ray, Inspection 2 whilst at it, then will upgrade oil pump with VAC kit to cover the weak points.

Need to fit my rear RS29's Martin kindly delivered to Silverstone.

Car is then going to the bodyshop.

Then Ill put front ARB to hard then maybe take a couple of clicks off the rear and get stuck in and get lots of TD's in.

Cheers Paul, Radium kit looks like a work of art.

I use the BTCC current medium slicks, with car 1400kg + Me can do 20-25 min stint easy, they will be good for two TD like that.

Just ordered Drexler LSD

Fuel lines picked up earlier this week to finish Radium Fuel Surge kit. ProGold goodness made by Pro-Line Motorsport. Hack also integrated o-ring fitting for the push-fit barb on the return side to guarantee a life of no leaks, big improvement over just pushing a hose on. Picture below, it did get a wipe over, promise.

Reduced rotating mass. Increased stiffness, better acceleration and responsiveness.

Also upgraded to lightweight flywheel and clutch at the same time.

So its been a while...

Making some progress today. Engine going back together, big shout out to Cotswold for all the OEM shizzle and MS motorsport for all upgrades.

ESS 575 supercharger going on.

Im fitting a CSL style carbon diffuser to the rear bumper then after a few days Ill bite the bullet and buy the diffuser I like.

But until it's dyno'd and done a couple of track days those finishing touches will have to wait.
