Having a bit of bother with my csl getting a rotational noise from the rear left it gets louder with speed. My mechanic has checked everything at the rear and seems to think it is one of two things either a drive shaft or the diff . First up. Are Both drive shafts the same and could we swap the left one to the right and vice versa to see does the noise shift to the right ? And secondly if the issue was with the diff and it needed replacing is the diff on a csl the same as the standard m3? Just wanna consider a second hand replacement . Last thing is the oil inside the diff worth changing also before I would consider changing a diff?

Driveshaft different lengths right to left
Diff the same in normal m3
Have you tried swapping wheels side to side to eliminate tyre noise?

It's basics ;)
Often garages overlook the simple things. It's free for you to try too.
If it was diff it would sound from centre of car.
Either driveshaft, wheel bearing or tyre causing if it's from left only.

Funny thing is lawsy the noise only appeared after I had the brakes refurbed and the exhaust clamps done . Gets me thinking either the noise was there b4 or I couldn't hear it because of the exhaust blowing b4 I fixed the clamps. Would tyre noise from the rear left be loud enough to identify which corner of the car it was coming from over the noise from the rest of the cars tyres ? The car is still in the garage so haven't been able to check the tyres yet .
