Hi there,
Anyone here run a standard system with a s/s race backbox?
If so , how loud is it, does it sound as nice but better than the standard system?
Any pics of one fitted to a csl anyone?
Thanks , Nick

I think IanM3 might be running one over on Mtorque...He was going to go the unsilenced mid-pipe too but thought it was nice enough with just the SS Backbox.

Not a CSL but worth a nosey anyway. I'll have a wee look-see too.

Thanks for that Flow,
Be interesting to hear if its liveable with as a daily driver or if its too intrusive.

On the to do list Supersprint or Gruppe M

Imho it's fine standard but that noise is addictive not intrusive :119:

From the video, I dont like. Seems to have lost the rasp.

Like anything though, needs to be seen/heard in the flesh.

A chap in my street has a Gruppe M on his CSL and it is just too loud...and for me it spoils the character of the CSL as it sounds like any other car with a load exhaust added. Doesn't have that distinct CSL sound any more.

Woulds imagine it would fail most noise test at track as well.

The Gruppe-M backbox is really too loud .
A friend of mine had it on his M3 , Too loud and did not like the sound of it .

I got a Gruppe M for my lowly M3 for a trip through Europe, and it was a bit of a laugh, drowning out everyone in the tunnels. But when I got home it drove me insane :119: so I flogged it.

Drive by (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRd73vF-wNQ)

Stelvio 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQluWhgGMf8&feature=channel_page)

Accelerating (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ApW2FH8o794&feature=channel_page)

And even from a fair way away it was loud...

Stelvio 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sui6gAPIN9g&feature=channel_page)

If there was some way to turn it on/off I'd have kept it for those odd times when you want your car to deafen you, but otherwise it became a pain to live with. And you can imagine how much 'fun' it was once I moved to Manchester and got myself an underground parking space...

Would have to agree.....The Gruppe is just shocking...I get neighbours complaining to me about 'my mate in the CSL' you can hear him coming from miles away.

My wife heard it and thought it was a a tuned Jap car.......now thats not good...Everyones different but leave well alone I say.

I HAD the GruppeM and at 1st it was fantastic, what a noise, did sound awesome but it got tiresome. I've now got Milltek BB only. Perfect.

Thorney run Milltek full systems, AFAIK.

Running full lightweight race , for some reason even tho its the full race system , it not too loud , and you dont lose the rasp either , hence why I went for it , might be on this week , as its coming in from SS italy ...

Agree with all the comments , and I do not want to have a loud tacky sounding car , and I think the SS just gets it right , and the tails are std looking , but a little wider and meaner than std too...

But you guys can can all see , and hear on our trip, or at one of the CSL cup meets so all cool

Daz, i thought the tails on the s/s were 80mm, as opposed to 65mm, not exactly standard looking
Are you not going for twin upswept DTM styleee :hahaha:

I assume the 2 nd one is the "Old" system/design???
Is the new one lighter/louder/better??

I know Miltek are doing some new ones , or about too , going to change the tips , as a lot of people do not like the rolled inners , me included ...

Not sure what the diff on those two are tho .. :-D

The second one looks like the original i guess, i like the look /design of the first one, though they both have the toss looking 45deg inward lip design on the tail trims.
I still personally think the original look is best, though a bigger diameter would look a little ruder :smokin:
2.5mm wall thickness, straight cut not slash cut , and 75mm would look nice, with the staggered length look too.

Second link is for the old design that drones more apparently.

My car has the later design like the first link:

I've got the newer (1st) one and IMHO, its the better looking of the two with the smaller silencer. Personally I love the pipes, the shineyness of them screams bling. When I had the gruppeM, they didn't stand out at all (Unless of course the car was running!!!) and when parked next to my mates M3 with a Borla Exhaust, his was much better looking.

For those like me that can't be bothered looking at the ebay links...
