View Full Version : SMG software
Guys,
anyone heard of TMC Motorsport? Apparently they have this Autoflash thing that improves the gearbox in the E60 M5. One of our owners in HK tried it and he said it made the car much smoother etc.
Wonder if they could improve the CSL's SMGII? I'm guessing they should as the E60's is SMGIII and ours is only SMGII. What do you think. TMC is UK based so maybe someone used them before. Maybe there is hope in our eternal slur after pussy footing.

anyone?
I'm a bit tired of the old clunky SMGII and if at all possible would like some improvements.

What is wrong with it ?
I am not following.
I have 2 cars with M DCT, both have misbehaviors and glitches.
If you want comfort it's best if you buy a proper AUTOMATIC (aka steptronic) and leave the sequential boxes on the side. :gayfight:

there is one thing I find annoying .. the fact that after driving normally, usually with the wife on board or on traffic ridden bank holiday monday roads , clutch slur can start to take hold. Alright, a good blast at by myself soon gets the shift back to normal but it would be nice if the software wouldn't adjust to a soft setting

Possibly your gear change style.
Whether you are driving hard or just pootling along - never lift on the accelerator when you change gear.
I've never had any issues in over 46k miles driven by me.

i never lift, always try & change foot to the floor .. wife doesn't appreciate this though :hahaha:
It doesn't suddenly start slurring and its only happened a couple of times, but I have noticed a very slight difference sometimes. Its not a problem, just would prefer it if the software didn't adjust anything because it thinks it knows better

Whether your foot is to the floor or just part throttle - don't lift

When was the last time you had the car serviced by BMW?
I only ask as BMW have not been sitting on their laurels, they have been regularly updating the SMG software since it was launched and the latest update is now available (I just had mine upgraded to this version last week). It is far less clunky at slow speed since the update

Interesting. Mike, was the dealer able to tell you anything about what the updates were? I wonder if the improvement you have noticed is due to adaptions being reset at the same time (????) or a genuine software improvement.

Probably nothing to do with the update mike, maybe more to do with clutch point calibration.
The earlier software is actually thought to be better, the latest software is made for people like digi :gayfight:

Gareth didn't tell me that, he just told me it had been updated to the latest version. It seems to blip better on the off throttle down changes and has lost the slow speed clunking that it developed.

I take mine to the indie. You sure BMW is still updating the software for the CSL?
Just my R35 GTR is already on like n'th gearbox/maps and the lp570 with the single clutch was quite good too.
As I don't hammer her like you guys and the traffic causes it to think you want to pussy foot everywhere, the slur is sometimes annoying. (unless I disconnect the battery the night before)
Some guy on the local bimmer forum told me he got this thing that improved his E60 m5 smg gearbox and that even in traffic now, its a vast improvement. As the company is based in UK I though it might be worth a shot. But the price they are asking is, lets say a little rich unless it really works. :banghead:
did he say which version of the SMG software he flashed?
Can we reflash back to the original clutch eating software? I'd rather that than the slur.

It's a bad idea to put the latest SMG software on the CSL.
Makes it more user friendly but less aggressive/quick/performant.

Hi Alex, can you tell us which version numbers you consider good, and which bad? I wonder if BMW provide release notes listing the changes made in each update???
