Looking forward to the story, disaster on the last lap, what happen guys.
Got up to 6th with changeovers and thought you had 13th place in the bag.
It still shows the last lap as a 1.11 so no idea how the places went... Hardest race to follow on tsl

phew!

well it was a great first race day for us....not 100% successful but still good.

we were with some mates in mx5s who were in both Future Classics and running in our Modern Classics race as well. Our car was only eligible for Modern Classics so we did 30 min quali at 9.40am and 40 min race at 3.40pm with driver change between 10m and 25m compulsory.

our class was Group E (under 2500cc) and our car is well prepped and set up but bog standard 325 power so we had a 323Ti compact in our group which was running about 30bhp more than us) and then a mk 2 Escort (which as quick) and an MR2. We qualified 1m11.55 (barry ) and my best 1m12.33. The escort was always going to be faster in the dry but we were surprised the quick little 323Ti was slower than both of us at 1m12.61

So for the race we agreed Barry goes first and we swap somewhere near 20mins. Barry managed to gain a few places on the first few laps and another few due to an accident. The Escort dropped out of the race very early which out us top of our group as the first driver in the 323ti was very slow. Barry clocked a best of 1m10.56.

We had a bad change over loosing 20secs over a good swap so went behind our mx5 mates and then I set to work catching the 323ti which was just in front of me and over the 13 laps I got onto his bumper I think gaining about 400m or so but later learnt they were a lap behind anyway. My best lap was my last as I still was getting faster each lap and I nocked up a 1m11.30

Then the bad news. Came out of Copse and on the throttle and the engine sounded like it was missing so got round onto the back straight and slowed down letting he 323ti drive away and then thought that rather than ruin the engine or drop a load of fluids I would pull off and limp back through the paddock to the garage where I was told by Barry we were just about to start the last lap:banghead:

So luckily we got a race finish (3rd in class but we were leading class by a lap I think) and a signature on our upgrade card :finga:

overall had some great racing, consistently got faster but still 0.6s off barry but im still learing to drive a manual gearbox and the car.

Not sure on the problem yet but guessing its valve/cam follower/coilpack issue somehow

Those that remember Bromers (used to have CSL) he was there in a Mini Supercharged but had to pull out with electrical issues.

Now to fix the car and get ready for the next race

Good write up shim:thumbs:.

Enjoyed today regardless of result. Both of us were buzzing all day wrapped up in the atmosphere and our own adrenaline.

E36er what happened from your point of view? I saw on first lap a e36 m3 at 90degrees parked in your door through copse:bigcry:

Betsy will be back soon, maybe with some more powers:smokin:

Trying to speak for both of us...we weren't too nervous I don't think but like all things when its ALL NEW there si too much to concentrate on and you forget things.......which we both did but I think we managed to keep in mind that it is about winning first and once we were out there we were trying to win.

The car in front of me in our group was nearly one lap behind but I was determine to catch him and go past as he was the faster driver (just to let him know we both were faster than him) - I guess I should have calmed down and just driven 9/10s but seemed like to good practice and a good chance to dent his confidence :)

(our mx5 punted him off in the last lap just after I pulled off)

I bore the brunt of a coming together between the lead car - James in the white/pink e36 - and a Vectra. They were having a cuddle, with the e36 completely sideways. I thought I'd got round them but I just saw a white blob in the corner of my eye before an almighty crunch. Still not sure who was at fault, although most seemed to blame the Vectra driver. He was nowhere to be seen after the race, which is a bit shit really. He could have at least explained his version of events.

Glad you enjoyed your first race, it's a great series with a really decent bunch of people. I'll make sure to say hi when I'm back.
