Hello,
I am looking for a used OEM CSL airbox. The reason I ask for a used one is because although I can get my hands on a new one, it is beyond my budget.
Long story short, I bought an aftermarket CSL airbox, which is flimsy and fits like crap. Lesson learned.
If you have one for sale, please PM me and let me know if you are willing to ship.
Thanks! :)

So you are presuming a used one will be cheaper than a new one
Good luck
A Geoff Steel airbox seems to be the aftermarket one of choice.

From what I have observed, yes.
Several used CSL airbox parts I've seen in the last few months on various BMW boards were significantly cheaper than a new one.
In fact, some that were new were cheaper than what you'd expect to pay at the dealership. For example: http://m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=474339
I was very close to snatching the air collector and control unit for $2k total, but a local guy got priority. Bummer.
Anyway, I really don't want this to turn into a debate on CSL airbox pricing. So please, if you have one for sale, PM me. But if you feel that you can only offer brand new pricing for a used one, then don't. Thanks.

We need them for our CSLs ;)
Just wanted to bump this up and see if anyone has a CSL intake they would possibly be selling. I am interested in one as well. Perhaps if a CSL is parted out / broken for parts, going forced induction, or track/race prep.
Thanks!

Please leave CSL parts for CSLs.

Lol, I am building what BMW should have made in the first place. As a matter of fact, without the SMG components, my CSL build should be a bit lighter than the actual Coupe Sport Lightweight :smt080
Back on track, looking for one of these if one is available for sale

This type of thing genuinely irks me.
It irked me when I owned my B5 RS4. Front wings became in short supply because S4 owners were doing wide arch conversions.
I bet it irked Escort Cosworth owners when Ford ran out of front bumpers due to people buying them up to chop up and graft onto POS Fiestas.
BMW have done their best by requiring a chassis code to order specific parts but the internet has made it too easy to navigate around this.
My feeling is that CSLs are rare enough, and parts scarce enough, that what parts there are should be left for the genuine cars. You car will never be a genuine CSL so why insist on a genuine air box?

Three (or five) words depending on how you look at it: OEM build quality
I would agree with what you are saying about most other cars, but not for the CSL since I have a feeling BMW actually made a 6sp which they keep hidden in their warehouse of rare one-off cars.

I though SMG in the CSL wasnt going to be for me either, bearing in mind I have 2 manual Porsche 911's and a crash box Landdrover
.... as it is , the box suits the car and I wouldnt get any more enjoyment out of it with a manual box
The SMG is only really crap if you use the car for pottering around
Don't slate the it unless you've had a few weeks behind the wheel of a CSL :)

I'm glad that stacks up in your head because it's a poor justification. BMW like any other car manufacturer would have built many testing mules but the reality is that when it came to the crunch the CSL was SMG only. Forget what BMW might have tucked away in a warehouse.
If you must have a manual then a preferable approach from my stand point is that you buy a CSL and convert it to manual whilst keeping all the bits required to reinstate the SMG at a later date.
I've been a manual guy all my life, aside from my 535D, and for performance driving I'd have always insisted on shifting myself. But what people say is true, the SMG suits the CSL and make you a quicker driver, no doubt about it.

BTW CSL is a Manual :smokin: that's what the 'M' in SMG stand for ;)

Please correct me if I go wrong here as not a Car Mechanic however the CSL is of course Lightweight but what makes it that "special" is the sum of the parts and the weight Balance across the whole body and of course the driving dynamics. Countless people have stripped M3's made them lighter than the CSL even faster however they are not the CSL ;)
Back on topic why a CSL Carbon Intake since its not a CSL hence not worth buying the original. There are 2 places that produce Carbon Airboxs in the UK that I know of it would be cheaper to go down that route :) (no doubt more but not my area of expertise.)

I won't go on trying to debate this with everyone. I know as much as there is to know about the M3 CSL and all it's lightweight and performance components. I also know about all the other options out there when it comes to aftermarket parts. I am looking for an intake if one is for sale, that's it.
I have my reasons and opinions, so please keep this thread on track. Just looking for an intake if one becomes available for sale.

I never see GT3 or Turbo S owners feeling genuinely threadened by people putting the wrong bits on their cars in the same was as some of you guys do. Of course it isn't a CSL unless it says so on the V5, even if the car is lighter/faster/better handling. Is the parts issue really that bad? How many people have needed to replace their airbox?

thats because GT3 etc parts are still available from Porsche. In fact I can still buy parts for my 1973 Porsche 911 from Porsche Classic dept.
BMW unforuntatley don't have the vision to keep OEM CSL parts available ...
With what is left being snapped up by non CSL cars, in the event of a genuine CSL needinig said item , that owner is up the creek
This is the issue. its not an issue with people creating their own interpretations .

Can you order a roof still or front bumper?

I thought that the camshafts were available from the manufacturer, just not from BMW directly, unless I got the wrong end of the stick.
whenever the manufacturer makes the parts a direct bolt ob replacement there will be people who buy them yo tart up their lesser cars. The only way to avoid this would be to have more parts which are unique, such as cylinder head or a wider/different bodyshell, all of which would make the whole project either much more expensive or just not viable. I guess we just have to live with it.

NOPE!!! been on the "list" for a roof for a year now due to all the spares getting snapped up for Standard M3's.
Id say also race cars but 99% of those will have gone for the GS version.

I think about 6 month ago there was 1 left in Germany, when I potentially needed one but was priced a t i think 4K cost
The roof has gone end of life, if you try and order one you will get sent the steel normal one
This is not good for all us CSL owners.
