Hi

Just wondering what change there std radio to

OEM satnav? or something aftermarket?

Im wanting to put something with dab and hands free but have a complete BMW satnav set up sat in the garage

Or do people not bother with any upgrade

Regards

Faisal

It wouldn't have bothered me if mine had no radio, as I hardly ever use it. Sport on, windows open instead

I have the Becker Cascade Pro 7941 like in this picture (not my car, but the inspiration for the change), it looks very OE including the screen which is the the same BMW orangey red colour, it has built in Sat Nav / hands free / voice control (which I never use), and can connect to Apple products with the additional Becker connector:

Here is one for sale on Ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Becker-Cascade-Pro-7941-CD-MP3-In-Dash-Receiver-/271439870857?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item3f3313bb89

The furthest thing from my mind is fookin' radio and phones when I'm in the CSL.

I bought mine specifically for driving in mind - it has so far guided me to the Nurburgring and will be taking me around Europe this year :blalalala:.

Mine is coming out too as my cf rear shelf has no speaker holes so it sounds crap now.

As with majority engine noise is all the music ya need!!!

I've never turned mine on, as it not a daily I've never found the need with the in-built orchestra under the bonnet, it would only detract from the experience.

Yeaa, the sound of the engine at high revs is all you need, the radio will probably be a distraction.

Thanks for the ideas, will just leave as is.

thanks

Faisal

Good idea.
This is the amount of stuff you would need to retrofit.

opening the window and driving is a better sound than the radio :hahaha:

Much like the others I hardly use my stereo, the car sounds too good for it!

I'm personally not a fan of aftermarket head units in the CSL as look a bit out of place, but I ended up with a Dynavin D99 Android unit, has google maps / navigation, bluetooth etc, and looks fairly OEM.

I was thinking of the Dynavin D99 (http://www.dynavin.com/products/product_dnv_e46.php)at one point - well either that or a blanking panel! Interested to hear how you find it phoenixcsl, was the satnav and screen OK from a useability point? Any install issues?

I was looking at these units for my car however I heard bad reviews on the Dynavin Units from M3cutters forum mainly around the O/S with upgrades etc. They where a Forum sponsor but I do believe they have now gone.

Hey mate, yeah it's not a bad unit at all, you'll need a HVAC relocation panel from BMW or Quarry Motors etc. this moves the climate control buttons to where they are on a 'normal' M3, so just above the little storage bin is above the sport button etc.

Satnav is not bad, I have the option to tether my phone and use Google Maps or use Sygic which i've downloaded as it's a sat nav software that can be run 'offline' i.e. just uses GPS and doesn't need a data connection.

General usability of the unit is easy, Radio is good, CD interface whilst doesn't look amazing does the job, Bluetooth is good, MP3 / USB interfaces are good though looks dated.

Overall it's better than having say the BMW Business CD, with a Parrot and a Sat Nav stuck to the screen, my only gripe is in bright sunlight the screen is a bit iffy.

Got any pictures? :)

Attached a pic Mike, my centre trim bit above the unit wasn't on properly when I took it.

Dynavin were never on M3 Cutters Chris as far as I know, they did have some forum sponsors with Andrive which was meant to be a better version of what I have got, I've had no trouble updating my firmware on the Dynavin, download the zip file, extract it to the microsd and let the machine do the rest.

Do you have yours connected to the OBD port to get the digital gauge function up and running?

No mate, I couldn't figure out which cable went where!

Though if I knew I'm sure it's easy to tap it in :)

I think I'm in the minority here in my response, but then again I do originate from Leicester, where a top-of-the-line Halfords headset and bargain basement subwoofer and amp combo mark you out as a high street hero.

So..

I upgraded my hifi system in the CSL extensively. I wanted a system that didn't require any change to the standard headset or any other part of the interior of the car, but yet delivered a high quality sound notwithstanding the noise in the CSL. I went to these guys to build it: http://www.advanceav.co.uk.

The system consists of two high power amps, a pre-amp equaliser that is plugged into a laptop and tuned for the car using microphones (both static and driving), 4 new replacement speakers, two tweeters and a detachable 10in subwoofer. Dynamat was kept to a minimum when setting up the system, as I didn't want to add too much weight.

There are no visual clues to the system in the interior - only a hidden jack to connect an iPod and a switch underneath the standard headset.

I love the sound of the CSL more than anything, but on a 5 hour trip to the Ring in constant traffic, I quite like listening to music. The system I have isn't perfect, but it doesn't disrupt the interior and was a great replacement.
