Storm motorwerks smg gear shifter

I hate my smg gear shifter.its cheap looking,chrome,plastic and the top bevel is quite uncomfortable for me.my opinion the ONLY disappointing part on a csl!!

So ive been trawling the net for a better solution something i can enjoy!!
I came across Storm Motorwerks and their smg nob offering!instantly thought WOW words like class and oem dimensions,elegant profile and Upgrade.i thought this has to be a good punt right?

Wrong!i waited 14 days for it and as soon as i opened the box the the sum of £90 odd quid i could have cried!!!
1 it weighs a ton same weight as an alloy wheel,
2 it does not fit like oem push click its got two hideous grub screws to hold it still.have you ever fitted a gear nob with grub screws?they fly off as soon as you push into reverse
3 they've gone super easy on the titanium plating hardly gun metal finish.
4 the engraved position and m logo on the top are so thinly and lightly etched that they are liable to wear off in 6 months.

In total ive gone backwards with this absolute waste of time shit!!
Its crap i won't use this on my lockup door.theives wouldn't steal this thing!!
I see how the cutters boys would like this but i don't!!

I did like the look of them as well, another mod not worth doing....thank the lord for AP brakes who met expectations unlike every other a/m wank company.

My most loved fave mod has to be my radium catch tank n fuel rail!
So beautiful so easy to fit and refreshing in the engine bay.
Love my stoptech kit but the colours faded and that.my eisenmann probabily the best buy 78mm Le Mans back box sounds exactly what i want!!and the money i paid for it brand new(with lifetime warranty)was silly cheap!

That's a real shame as I was looking at this as a replacement but going to give it a wide berth, However Stormworks paddles do look good.....

Such a disappointment when something doesn't live up to the hype and your expectations, I'd send it back and ask for a refund! :(

Sorry to hear about your situation. I think the best lever look is the oem unit in matt silver finish as in the CSL concept.

I wouldn't mind soo much if it was trim grey or black at least but a plastic chrome really??away from the door handles there is no other chrome in the car its soo 80's.each to their opinion but i cant get comfortable with the nob as it is.


Im gonna try strip the chrome off it and etch paint it black see if i can get it looking better.

Shame!!if the shifter was aluminium and had the oem style fitment it would get away with it but fitment and weight my main two gripes.idea was good though.

What i cant get is you can buy a gearnob off eBay for 10£ fits as good as oem but these guys couldn't manage the fitment and went for grub screws!!!why???

STM makes beautiful products and I won all of them apart from the SMG Shift knob.

I cant understand why you didnt like it but oh well, thats your choice.

Also, STM will send you a refund if you send it back.

Edit: They are also working on a newer design shift knob for SMG's which will snap fit on like OEM.

The thread you started on the CSL forum regarding our V3 SMG shift knob was brought to my attention.I am sorry to hear that you don't like the product, I can understand your issues with using grub screws.

Please send the gearknob back to me in the original box for protection and I will give you a full refund. If you paid by paypal please provide me with your transaction number.

We have recently started working on a new SMG gearknob with an insert to allow OEM fitment so perhaps once this is done you might revisit our site.

Hahaha easy matey.The ergonomics of the M5 are much better in my view. I hated the stock smg knob.

In the end the issue got resolved so I'm happy for you. Now get an M5 smg knob......JK.
