fired cesil up today after 7 months in captivity

dash light in yellow came on after 2 minutes idling

description- cog with teeth on outer rim with exclamation mark in centre

the manual states only the above in orange not yellow

"smg drivelogic fault"

switched engine off and restarted...light came on after 60 secs

switched engine off and restarted......no light after 10 mins running

I haven't moved the car or selected any gears with the exception of reverse prior to switch off.

Should I be concerned and whisk it away to Sir Gareth Of Elmshire?

Only had this twice.

First time 6 months into ownership, hot day, heavy stop / start traffic. Got home (5 miles) no problem. Switched off and left for 30 mins. Switched on, didn't come on and didn't see it again.

Until...

About 2.5/3 years (and 15k miles) later when came on and didn't go out, gear selection became increasingly difficult. Turned out to be SMG pump.

I'd get a diagnostics check locally.

Yes get it checked out ASAP otherwise the problem could become more expensive or inconvenient.

Sound advice....a little apprehensive about rocking up to local BM dealer with scaffolding in the back as a potential warranty claim may be stopped

Elms it is then!!

Take it out for a run, just to get the fluids circulating.
If the light goes out great, if not think again.

How would you get it to Cambridgeshire (hardly local) - drive it?
If the pumps kaput or on its way out you mightn't get there.

Before you do mate, have a quick check of the fluid lever in your SMG expansion tank as it's know to seep past the rubber "O" ring in the cap and mist out slowly over time.
Worth a quick look before our good Doctor "G" goes deeper.
This is in the engine bay behind the near side headlight & XENON module (black box with wire harness on top (No. 6 in the pic enclosed)

Have you had the salmon relay in the e box replaced recently? Aside from checking the fluid level this is about the only thing you can do at home.

The e box is on the n/s rear of the engine bay T20 screws holding it down. There is a pink/salmon colour relay in there. You can open it up and inspect the contacts, if they're burnt at all replace it. If in any doubt replace it anyway, worth doing for the price of it.

Hope that helps.

yea, just plonk in a new Salmon Relay. I have like 3 of them in my possession at anytime. I had a more problematic issue a few months back, but that was one of the ABS sensors going. Many lights lit up. If its only the cog, its the relay acting up. They don't seem to last long and if stationary for some time, they seem to screw up for some odd reason. Another reason would be they are built by Tyco. :hahaha:

Could easily be a low voltage fault if its been standing a while. Fire it up and see what happens.
