So tonight after hours of winter refurbing. I drove cesil out of the warm garage and down to the local petrol station.
What the ????????? Cups are lethal ! A gritter was coming the other way so i took avoiding measures. I was shocked at the lack of grip and traction. I checked the pressures and set to 2.4bar 35 psi.
Think ill wait till its abit warmer and reserve final judgement. PSS next im thinking :gayfight:

The clue was the gritter:
Also maybe the pressure is a little high? Shimmy advised me around 30-32 HOT for the road...

I don't have the sticker !!!! That's first time I've paid attention to it as never ran cups before !
As regards tyre pressures I checked the door sticker. Says 2.4 bar all round.
So do most people run slightly less then ?

If Cups are used outside recommended conditions, is insurance negated?

They are an OEM supplied road legal tyre so I would think not.

Interesting point. But that would apply to most cars as they have summer tyres fitted. That's the way England could go if insurers insist on winter tyres in these temperatures.
Bring on the summer

Correct, that's the sole purpose of the sticker is as an advisory notice, if you have an accident through not adhering to the stipulated conditions of use, you're effectively up the Swanee!
You have been Warned, it's a get out of jail card for the insurance companies. :(
So many were removed during the course of initial PDI's (big Dealer mistake). Others have been removed during changes in ownership etc.
Some owners are probable unaware of its existence, if you don't have one - then I would advise you to get one, Mark CSL has some reproductions available. :-D

Neil The advisory is for BMW benefit and has nothiing to do with Dvla or insurance cover. it is DoT and E marked and legal on the road no matter where and when you drive with them. Even legal in Germany 12 months a year.

Neil why do you say that the sticker is good to have ?
Quite simply, because the sticker is a warning about the use of the Michelin Cup Tyre issued by the vehicle manufacturer BMW, advising/informing the owner as to the conditions/limitations of their use, whoever that may be.
To knowing remove a warning sticker is irresponsible, it was put there for a specific purpose, not as a piece of ornamentation or decoration.

It is my opinion that we are making the problem bigger than it is.
I dont see why I should put a sticker in my car warning someone else to be careful with cup tyres. Also i dont see why the bmw dealer did a mistake removing the sticker from my car.
Did i need a sticker to tell me driving with these tyres when there is heavy rain is a problem ?
Irresponsible sounds heavy.

if a tyre is sold & approved as road legal, then it's road legal and won't effect an insurance claim unless they can show its an undeclared modification ( which I think would only apply if the tyre size differered from original spec )

No need, I'm pretty sure your subframe is still there.
Your boot floor however may be cracked, are you doing it yourself Rob?
I've just stripped subframe off mine. 51 plate with 60k, no cracks whatsoever.
I'm plating it for good measure.

Is this subframe issue really that common? Is it an easy thing to check? Mine is coming out of hibernation next month to, new clutch but do I get the rear sub checked?
