Been after a 1M for the last year or so.
Not had the pleasure of driving mine for 8 months as waiting on a new engine, fingers crossed fitting will take place start of March, yes 2014.
Once new engine fitted Im thinking 1M & E46 M3 track slag.
Monkey said I can test drive the one's he has in stock.
Anyone had the pleasure of owning one?

Gareth Lloyd went from CSL to 1M and he loves it. All he has done is fit Nitrons and bigger front discs (retaining the OE calliper). He even uses standard pads and recons it is just amazing.
I'm sure he will have a chat with you about it if you want?

I would wait til you get the cesil back. drive it and then make the call.
I drove an orange 1M and it was good. not a CSL though. it was quick, modern, comfy etc but soulless compared to a CSL. lack of noise plus the engine runs out of revs too quick as 3 litre blown.
don't get me wrong it was awesome and would be a great road car.

I think 3rd gear can do 200km/h

Terryb did that move, CSL-1M ( or was it something else ) !!
See your logic though and makes sense, great daily road car, and more focused track day warrior to abuse for the same pennies more or less :-D
Octainejunkee currently owns a csl and a 1m also, dont think he logs in here much though might be worth a pm Billy if you want to get he's thoughts.

Gareth still has a very soft spot for a CSL, he does love his 1M though, its a daily drive for him and I think his CSL was showing signs of age tbh so that prompted a change. A work colleague fancied a 1M and drove Gareths ( and then was driven in his too ) loved it and got one, I've sold Gareth some Eibach springs so he can look after his Nitrons and make correct top mounts for it during the winter. Clearly a very able car as the CSL is, I only wish I could drive one at 50% of what Gareth does.... :-(

Terry did CSL-GT3-E92M3-1M-E92M3..... Tells you something!
Nearly right Shimmy, I went CSL to GT3 but at the same time had X6 to 1M to E92 M3.
I had my 1M remapped by DMS. It put out 415/475 and was very, very fast. But I moved it on for the M3 and the M3 is the best all-round car I've ever owned. Mine has competition pack with DCT and it is just so good it's unbelievable.
I wouldn't compare the 1M to the CSL as they are for different purposes. The GT3 is the only one like the CSL.
The manual box in the 1M isn't that great either, it's kind of springy in its operation. Pity it's not like the GT 3 box. However the acceleration of the 1M was just plain crazy, big smiles and Supercar performance :)
If you're dead set on a 1M then I don't think you'll be disappointed as they look awesome and are great fun! but I would always recommend the E92 M3 especially with its NA V8 and the DCT box is sublime :)

i bought a 1m last November to go with the CSL. Firstly, yes it's a very different car to the CSL - much more refined and relaxed drive than the cesil. I'd say it's definitely quicker too - overtaking function on boost is a giggle. The CSL has the more special (sense of occasion) about it - it's only the GT3 (i had a 997.2 3.8GT3) that betters the CSL for this in my experience. Still not sure on the handling of the 1m - i had a good rip in it the other week when the roads were dry and the outside temp was at 10degrees, and the car felt good, but still doesn't give you the feedback and confidence that the CSL gives. The 1m is more GT2 than GT3 - take your eyes of the ball and get too cocky with it and it'll throw you through a hedge, whereas the GT3 / CSL feels like it it'll look after you.... more :-D
The 1m i could use everyday, the CSL i couldn't. The CSL however is the one i'd pick if going for a 'special' drive.
Values of the 1m have been (and still are) very strong and consistent, so buy it and try it, and if you don't like, you can sell without losing your shirt.
re gearbox terryb - i actually find the box very very good in the 1m. Much better than an e46 M3 manual. However, the best manual box i've had was on the GT3 - now that's a proper mechanical cog changer!!

Funny you mention it but ive heard the story from him, hes only down the road from me (literally a couple of miles) and every now and again i hear a car go down the main road (we are just off it down a lane) and I know its the F40 because it sounds so angry if its off throttle.

Sorry guys i keep taking this very off topic. My singular trip in the 40 the most memorable automotive experience ive ever had, i could talk about it all day, I love seeing Gareth and just talking cars, he can talk about stuff others dream of. Last time was about driving the SVA imports time attack car with its new DRS and flat shift system, having a problem so not testing it and then going out an coming 2nd in its first event having had no practice, that and talking about max speed runs in cars here and there and how easy it is to do...!!

Well my Z4 is not exactly old compared to it... and it's a much better car for an experienced driver.
Better chassis, better performance (7 speed gearbox), better feeling, better sound etc.
I struggle to see what the 1M is really.
An overpriced 135i maybe.
Standard interior, looks and is cheap, ride height of a school bus, extremely long ratio in gears, turbo lag and at least in Switzerland all of them are owned by 20-25 year olds.
Happy that you enjoy yours though.
I don't see the comparison with the M5.
The one is a joke and the other is a weapon.
The M5 even laps 10 secs faster than it at the Ring :blalalala:

Surprised not many like the 1M. Personally for 40k still, and it just being a normal 1 series inside, well with some nicer stitching :hahaha: i could not do it. Plus the front i just love, but the rear quarter just looks squished for some reason.
Excellent cars, well with the suspension and diff from the 92 M3 its going to be good. But need to drive a remapped one to see how able the engine is. If its the same as the 135/335 then the lag is still not the best. Better than a lot of other blown engines, but personally prefer the raw power of the CSL.
Plus when the M2 comes out, then think the prices will start dropping. Not massively, but certainly bring them down to 30k for a low ish miler.

Guys, I can't believe this thread has degenerated into talking about hairdressers cars.... Z4s :blalalala:
The 1M is a great car, just not as good an all rounder as an E92 M3 which is what I changed mine for as it is my daily.
The CSL is more hardcore than the 1M no doubt, but it wouldn't see which way the 1M went on a straight road - track is different of course. But then I changed the CSL after a year for a GT3 which I have still after 5 years.
So what have we learned here....
1M's are fast as fook (especially remapped) and good fun
E92s are the best all rounder money can buy
CSLs are awesome :supz:
GT3s are even more awesome :finga:
And Z4s are for hairdressers :gayfight:
I think this concludes the topic

One reason I did opt for a CSL instead of the 1M, and this does sound stupid really. But the Valencia Orange I always thought was a one off 1M only colour, or like LSB and Phoenix yellow etc. Now I see it on every 1 series! And no it's not Sedona or anything, but actual velencia!
So anyone looking at one who knows f all about cars, will think its a 135 with a body kit :-D
Told you it sounded stupid :119:

I have, sort off, as have both. Very different cars for different occasions in my view. CSL is such a special package that a 1M could never compete with, however it is not a daily as far as I am concerned. It is for when you just want to go for a drive and enjoy. For a daily though I love the 1M. I love the looks and rarity. It is a great thing to be in when having to deal with the chores of daily driving, comfy, not ridiculously loud, great sound system etc, though if the road does open up in front of you its great fun. The engine isn't in the same ball park as the csl's but again for daily duties I prefer it. So much more torque means don't upset the wife as don't always have to rev the nuts out of it.

Not many... agreed :-D I certainly wouldn't .
My point is 1M v CSL is an absurd comparison (both good cars) it's just one is a full blooded, iconic "M" car with pedigree and an N/A engine (as "M" Gods intended) ... the other is a modern take on "M" cars with an addition of a Turbo ( to meet the stringent modern emissions & the needs of the "Must Have all the Power NOW !!! " :moan: demands of the new "M" cars clientele.
Take the 1Ms Turbo away from the otherwise unremarkable 3 litre straight 6 and then "Go Compare"

Probably a slightly different opinion, but I cant say I liked the M135i all that much. A bit too easy in what it does for me, not a true M car at all. No drama, it just goes very fast very easily! That auto gearbox is a beauty though, no doubt about that.

To be honest if I had the ability to choose any BMW right now I think (if they make them) I'd chose the M6 Grand Coupe as a daily drive, it hought the M5 power when I drove it was frankly stunning and I like the look of the new M6 probably more.
I don't think I'd choose a 1M at all, unless prices were way down near M135 levels,
