Hello gents

i thought i would give you a bit of an update in my 1979 E24 to managed to rescue from the under ground garage of a building in the west end.

my friend works for the building management company and he informed me that there was an old BMW that had been there for years the owner had died some time ago and it belonged to a rich family from the middle east who were not interested in it.

i went down a took a look an to my amazement it was a 635 csi a car i had always wanted ! the management company told me if i could get it out i could have it !!!!

i got a mobile key cutter down there so i could get in and connected up a battery and she came to life, everything worked
lights , windows, sunroof, elec arial, i could not believe it

i dragged it out with my van bear in mind the last tax disc was 1995 so the brakes were all seized up.

i got it back to my work shop and started to tinker, freed all the brakes up (4 pots on the front) new pads and discs all round, drained the tank and swapped out a 12" length of rubber fuel line that had gone hard turned the key and boom started with out a splutter.

at this point i thought i would find the family and buy it from them as i did not want to fix it up and then they come and take it back, so i managed to get in contact with them and bought it from them and obtained the V5.

the fact it had been in an underground garage for 20 years kept at the same temp all the rubbers and hoses are in perfect condition so none of them needed changing.

then the fun started, due to the fact she has sat for such a long time all the coolant had evaporated and crystallised like rocks in the coolant system and she had a bad habit of over heating and doing a massive brown piss on my drive way, i had to strip it down as much as possible and clear out these rocks of old coolant.
i must have flushed the system 10 times with all different types of acid in it but after all that and a new water pump she never over heats and goes like stink.

a dam good clean and a wheel refurb and i think it is one of the best looking cars around, every time i take it out people stop and ask me all about it as its such a rare beast.

i love the fact the whole dash is in german and it was an early model so it has not got all the big body kits on it ect ect

for a 1979 car its got some kit as well elec windows, power steering , elec heated wing mirrors, elec sun roof , dog leg manual gearbox , LSD and seats that are better than my front rooms.

18k on the clock and drives like a dream i could not be happier !

what a find and story.

I love those cars Jon and you have had such a result there. in white too. best colour.

just goes to show how well made these cars were and almost over engineered!! 18k on the clock....that is mad.

the plate must be worth a fortune...as well as the car.

Munich Legends will read this through gritted teeth I am sure ;-)

top top result.

Love finds like this, great work !!!

Plate is a N.Ireland plate so perhaps the previous owner or indeed the car spent a time over here ?

Nice to see the old-timer getting a new lease of life, not many chrome bumpered/mirrored models about these days, should be worth a considerable sum with that mileage. Lucky You!

Thanks for the comments gents,

Yes the plate was on the car and had it valued at more than I paid for the whole lot, but to be honest the value of the car it irrelevant.

I have had an offer at 15 times what I paid for it but turned it Down, the thing is no matter how much cash you got you just can't get one and also the fact that I bought her back to life it means to much to me as long as I can I will keep it.

I think the car originally came from Yemen as the family i got it from were from there. It was imported in 1980, if any one has any clever ways of finding out history it would be much appreciated.

It's also got enough poke to drift it but we will keep that between us.

Plate as I say is from here so must be some connection with N.Ireland at some point.
Any services books ?

i think the car originally came from Yemen as the family were from there but no more info other than that it was imported in 1980,

when i got the car it had a graphic equaliser screwed into the dash behind the gear lever, when i drove about at night it was like having kit from night rider trying to give me a BJ so it had to go, but it left some holes to im going to get it repaired

Nice find. Congratulations and well done for sorting it out. I too always wanted a 635Csi many years ago but thought they were too big at the time and so got an e34 M5 instead. Ironically now it is probably no bigger than a current M3. Mad.

I remember seeing one of those years ago in Poole at Sunseekers car park, thinking I want one of those one day, probably the start of my BMW worshipping :notworthy:
Bet that was difficult getting a V5 :banghead:?
Your car must be the best one out there, very, very nice
Enjoy
