Yanto's new avatar has brought back a few memories for Ben, Shim and myself . . . so its possibly time for a trip down memory lane to think about those greatest gigs!
If you're easily bored - look away now.
Donington 1983 - Monsters of Rock !
Dio - first and only time I witnessed rock's greatest voice
Diamond Head
Twisted f**kin' Sister - silenced a few critics with shock, awe and eyeliner
ZZ Top - they were veterans back then an they're still avin it. I remember their Eliminator swinging over the crowd suspended off a helicopter
Meatloaf - again, still going - on that day necking full bottles of spirits in one
Headliners Whitesnake when Coverdale still had a voice, soul and the blues instead of selling out for hairspray and Tawny Carcrash - dualling helicopters diving overhead which would surely not be allowed these days.
Some RIPs:
Tommy Vance
Ronnie James Dio
Mel Galley
Jon Lord
Cozy Powell
Coverdale's soul

pink floyd live at chantilly in paris in 1994. There with another 250k plus people.
pink floyd at earls court in 94. Whole of dark side of the moon live.
rolling stones live at old wembley stadium for bridges of babylon tour. Smashed but it was rocking. Saw then at twickenham stadiun for Bigget bang tour. Was two rows from keef when the stage extended!!
oasis oct 94 live at earls court for whats the story, plus the maine road gig.
also oasis live in berlin (was over there at uni doing a year abroad) in dec 93 for definately maybe in a room of about 500 people. Brits at the front!!
U2 at twickenham in 2005 was a bit special. Stadium was a 15 min walk. Got day two for free almost :-)
stone roses in 93 at hacienda. Epic.
done a few raves as well ... Raindance in essex was always good with the prodigy. Berwick manor in rainham in the early 90s was great as was Orange at the rocket in north london.
Must say the mid '90's britpop era was great for gigs, lost count of the the Blur and Paul Weller gigs we all went to. I was persuaded to go to an Oasis concert in Exeter in '97 but only because my record shop worker girlfriend (now wife) had free VIP tickets, we had to walk past a mile long queue as we had special passes and as good as got spat on by the 'riff raff'. Spent all of the gig in the free bar, I was always, and still am a Blur fan :-D
In the mid 2000's when the Arctic Monkeys were new and all hyped you couldn't get a ticket to see them here, if you could it was £100's. It was cheaper to buy an easyjet plane ticket, fly to Milan and get a cheap hotel for the night, so about 20 of us did and saw them there where none of the locals had heard of them but had been told to see them by the press that they were the next big thing! probably the most memorable (from what I can remember) gig ever!!
The Specials a couple of years ago at the Brighton Centre probably a close 2nd.
Madness always put on a great show.
Regret not seeing The Jam's final gigs in Brighton in December 1982, being only 12 at the time all my mod mates parents wouldn't let us go.
Mid '60's Who, Kinks & Small Faces gigs would have superb....
Living in Brighton there's always someone here playing so we generally see a gig at least every 2-3 weeks :smokin:

Some great bands there and Brother Beyond ! Clearly Shimmy is A Punk Rocker :supz: Would love to have seen The Ramones - Pet Cemetary just blasted across my iphone . . . and Pink Floyd too, saw Roger do The Wall a year or two back - it was ok, he was miming - me & Mrs Rick forgot to go on the first night so had to rebuy tickets off eBay! Aussie Floyd are an excellant substitute.
Simply Red - seen them loads, best show was the Haydock gig, also saw them at the Maine Rd gig with Madness & M-People.
Faithless always put on a great show too . . .

Oh what have you started here Ian! Dredging up a bit of the past here, the good ol' days.
Poison with Enuff z'nuff London and again Newport - roughly 1989
Enuff z'nuff - Bristol Beirkeller 1989
Love/Hate - saw them all over the place but can only really remember London (Marquee Club but possibly Borderline or both!) 1988 and 1990 and in Bristol Bierkeller
Metallica, Megadeath, The Almighty, Diamond Head - Milton Keynes might have been 1993??
The Wildhearts - all over the place between 1989 and 1993 ish - too many to name but mostly London Marquee.
Manic Street Preachers with The Wildhearts - London Astoria (I think?) 1992?
Wolfsbane!!! (I know, I know but they were great live, honestly) Marquee 1993
The Almighty - loads of places, mostly London (usually with The Wildhearts) between 1993-1994
Alice in Chains - Brixton 1993
Lots more but that's what I can remember quickly from an era I was mostly :partyman:

We're the lads from Macc . . . and we want some Crack !!!!! great band, never saw them live but i have their album and a vid somewhere.
I saw G'n'R on that tour in Manchester - the keyboard player from either FNM or SG collapsed and spent most of the gig on his back (and the band played on!), then G'n'R didn't turn up for fookin' hours. I think Axl still plays the same trick these days.

I have a number of their albums but daren't go to a gig. You'd be covered in beer, puke, semen, shit or a combo of these......
In no particular order and can't remember the years, but my favourite gigs have been:
Cult
Depeche Mode (music for masses, violator)
The Pixies (prob my fave in Hanley Town Hall !!)
Madness
Robbie Williams (yes, really)
Coldplay (fook off Shim)
I also HAD to go to Simply Red x2 and Rod Stewart x2 .......let's move on
Would LOVE to have seen / see - Stone Roses (in early 90's, not now), Oasis, U2, Simple Minds, Cure, Foo Fighters, Nivana

King Kurt still play in Blackpool at some Goth/Punk type event - I think at least one of them is a solicitor in the real world.
Edit: Yep - http://williamspowell.co/contact/tm/john-reddington/
They list him as a founding member of a "successful popular music group"!
I still play Wreck a Party :supz:
I have a Macc Lads Live CD somewhere, think that was recorded in Leeds. I don't know where they are now.
Saw The Beat last year at Rammy Festival with Richard Hawley - they were awesome, Rankin' Roger and his lad owned it, great songs and still full of energy.

Saw The Damned few weeks before Christmas and Captain Sensible still has it.
The Jam a few years back were terrific
Most memorable, and brought back as saw documentary about him recently, was John Cooper Clarke :supz: before he went totally of the rails.
