View Full Version : Newbie says Hi
What to say, where to start?
Hi I'm Paul....very new to forums, so play nice & be kind I'll probably make some blunders or trip up on the etiquette front
I have always liked the E46 M3 & always take the time to admire when ever I see one.....have thought about getting one for ages as you do, together with all the other cars on my 'Bucket List'
Started to read more & more about the rare yet legendary CSL & became addicted....joined the forum at the end of last year & have been mooching about incognito soaking up the wealth of info./enthusiasm & at times being scared by some of the problems/horror stories....didn't really know if this was a passing fad or would lead somewhere?
Well!....cars are quite a common discussion topic in my house & for ages we discussed/debated/argued that our cars were becoming too similar in so many ways & the driving experience removed/numb, so we decided that we needed special & distinctive cars, which would offer very different visual & driving experiences....most of our subsequent discussion was not about the concept, as this was easy to accept, but as to which cars would end up on this very privileged/ambiguous list....needless to say we could not agree upon the cars, but you've got to start somewhere otherwise you'll spectate/discuss for ever without actually doing anything or I would anyway!
Started by looking through the ads....found a great, wait for it, BMW not M3 but Mini Cooper S JCW GP 2006 with 11300 miles & purchased it....haven't driven it much yet, but what a great little car full of character, supercharger, special bits & it's rare
If you've bothered to read this far, thanks....you'll be pleased to hear there is some relevance to this forum after all!....I've purchased a CSL & pick it up tomorrow, how great is that!....a dream becomes reality & I can't believe it's going to happen & before anyone asks it's one of the faster rare black ones!....only a joke I really like the grey ones, but this one came along at the right time....I think I'm excited & daunted in equal proportions
I live in West Wickham, which is North Kent/South London between Bromley & Croydon....does anyone else live near?
Well that's enough waffle about me, let's hear from the rest of you lucky CSL owners & I very much look forward to meeting some of you soon

Happy & Prosperous New Year to All
Welcome
Started very well....got a bit creepy.....and ended in disaster :)
Quite a few live your way so there will be plenty of chances to see the faster grey ones in action.

Welcome to Party :)
There's a fair few around the Kent / Surrey Area I am just around the Corner in Biggin Hill.
There is a thread in the events section if you are up for Sunday Morning runs for the southern lot :) so you might get a chance to meet up with some of the guys / Girls sooner than you think!

You will probably hate the clunkiness of the SMG initially. After that, you will love it after using super smooth dual clutches which remove from the experience imo. I think the CSL ages very nicely like a great Bordeaux (dun worry I know sh$t about wines :partyman:). Also, if you are heading out for a blast and don't want the slur, disconnect the battery for the night and hook her up before setting off. I've been pussy footing her on my last 2 drives and she is slurring like a slut now. :moan::hahaha:
Wish my mrs would discuss car things. I sell her by only putting up lovely ads for car prior to purchase. :hahaha: She always asks, how much?, I like the lights/hate the lights ;), is it comfortable? Atleast now after some training she knows a thing or two about the major brands.
Did you get Marks one?

Many thanks to all for the warm welcome
To join some dots....I purchased the car from ML & relates to an old thread 'Apparently sold' & a new thread today 'Anyone know this car'
Picked the car up late this afternoon & had a rather nervous drive home in the dark & rain
ML prepared the car beautifully & now sadly it's dirty
The weather is supposed to be better tomorrow, so hope for some playtime
My son thinks I should name the car Mjölnir "Thor's Hammer', which seems very apt i.e. Mjölnir is depicted in Norse mythology as one of the most fearsome weapons, capable of levelling mountains

But least we are man enough to handle the faster colour. :blalalala:
Washing session this morning, as so dirty after drive back from ML down muddy waterlogged roads....feel happier now that we have become a little better acquainted & started to bond, but it needs cleaning again....loads of rusty water coming from new vented rotors & making wheels yellow....any ideas as to how to stop or do you think it should stop naturally after a while or in dry weather!?!?
Beginning to get the hang of driving & starting to play with the gear shift settings, when I get a bit more confident I'll take the stabilisers off!!!!
Digi is right about the SMG, in that it'll take a bit of getting used to, as very different to the s-tronic/dsg in a couple of my other cars....but like it & adds to the 'unique specialness' of the whole package
Haven't turned the radio on yet as can't get enough of the sound of the percussion section of the orchestra x10 coming from under the bonnet!!!!!

Naive, but not that naive!
Thanks for info. & pic.
Looked a bit different back in 2007
Do you know any thing else about the car or have any more pics.?

Yes, purchased at the end of last year
It's completely different to a CSL, but bizarrely similar in so many ways....I know that sounds strange!

No, that's the only one I've got. I was at the event with my old E46 M3.
There were two CSLs there that day, but there's only a time recorded for one of them, and obviously I don't know if it was your car or the other one:
http://www.vmax200.com/vmax-sunrise.php
I also had a quick scan through the video, and it's in there at around 1.50. The video also has a 211mph run in it from the 9ff Porsche CABRIO !
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1VXc7oajJo#t=119
My car is the blue E46 at around 0:40, and spinning in the wet somewhere near the end...
