Hi all, i am on the lookout for a csl so have a couple questions. I have done some research but wanted thoughts / views on service history & warranty's. If a car has been serviced at correct intervals & correct inspections what are peoples views on main dealer against specialist servicing? Secondly i would like to have a warranty on the csl & having looked into pricing with bmw noticed that prices increase drastically over 60k miles, i see warranty direct do a main dealer backed warranty for about a third of the price! Again, thoughts, views or any experience of using this warranty pls? Any other advice also welcome.
Thanks in advance

Many are hung up on dealership servicing although I think as the cars get older (most are 10 years old now) independents are acceptable (to me at least). Let us face it many do not know what they are looking at in any depth.
"CSL ...?????.. No sir you are best trying Mercedes...."
"Errr it is the BMW M3 CSL"
"Oh sorry, I will put you through"
The OEM warranty is the one to have. I do not think many have anything else but again I am sure many will just keep the money in the bank. I have had mine since 2007 and only made one claim for springs so the money could have been better saved.
I am not sure what is for sale at the moment apart from BMW Hexagon but buying from someone on the forum is probably your best bet.

Warranty direct only pay 50% of parts over 600000 miles about £10000/year

Hi Scoobs998 and a big warm welcome to the forum.....As above I wouldn't get hung up on a BMW service history as long as its been serviced at a known specialist that knows the CSL inside out.
Good lucj with your search as the are getting very rare in the classifieds these days....

Thanks for views / help so far.
I have seen a csl on here a few weeks back that i believe is still for sale with around 68k miles for around £25995 ono, last couple services carried out by B&M Care in Leeds & JC Racing in Thirsk. I am down south, anyone heard or know much about either of these places?
As for the warranty, i ran a quote for an OEM one & it was £2300 - £2500 for over 60k miles depending on comprehensive or driveline cover!! I feel thats a tad steep to say the least. Didnt realise warranty direct only paid 50% of parts though!!!!! Decisions Decisions .............

BMW warranty becomes harder to stomach once the mileage of the car in question rises above 60k miles - unless the warranty is still running on a monthly instalment schedule.
I haven't had warranty for almost 3 years and have not had any need for it (touch wood) and have saved at least £3.5k

Cheers all,
With my budget i will be looking at a car with 60k - 70k ish, so what items are most likely to cause me pain in the wallet department if i run without a warranty? I have read a few stories / reports of massive bills ......... but i cant resist any longer! It will be my 2nd / 3rd car so not used daily. Cheers

BM care are round the corner from me, they are a big indi. Did they just do oil/ normal servicing? If so they will be as good as any.
Do you know the previous owners ? The only other CSL round here was a member from Gildersome, his forum name escapes me but he looked after it and did a few things when he got it. I can give you his number if you want to see if it was his, he sold it on last year (I think).
Warranty is getting a thing of the past IMO, I won't renew this year. I have had no issues this year, hardly used and I don't think there's anything that hasn't been done now ;)
Welcome :)

Possibly sounds like it may of been his as i know the present owner in Southampton bought it about 18 months ago. Car is standard apart from AC Schnitzer back box. Has had smg pump, clutch & head gasket done in 2012 & boot floor under warranty jan 2013. What other issues should i be aware of?? Any contact info would be great as not sure if he is still on here having sold the car?
Cheers Kev
p.s Toplad last on here in July!

I'll be putting mine up for sale soon. 57k miles and in bloody good condition. Brand new brakes all around and I'll get the inspection 2 done prior to the sale. Should be interesting to see whether it gets snapped up or just dawdles.

Good luck with your search. I've had mine 15 months now. Make sure rear subframe has been done and for 60-70k cars make sure head gasket OK.
I didn't bother with warranty. I've done 21k miles, inspection 2 just done, she's on 98k miles now.
Great car, great people drive them, great forum here, get one bought and enjoy!

welcome chap
I thought you had gone out and bought a Mercedes CLS at first !! I was like why would you do that....
I am just down the M20 near Maidstone so hope to hook up soon. will try and do a few cheeky eve track days at brands in spring / summer too.
I know a great BMW specialist garage in Dartford who looks after all my cars so PM me for details.
here is the proposed kent/se meet in the spring so good to see you there.
