Hi Guys,
Thought it was about time I joined the madhouse and introduced myself, I have recently (this week) collected a SB CSL and as you can guess Im a very happy bunny at the moment.. The car needs a few bits doing to it to bring it up to my ocd standard, But Im gonna enjoy doing the little jobs that need doing, First off was black alloys returned to their rightful silver colour (done today), Next off is Supersports all round, (ordered and going on Monday) New trim around the SMG shift (collecting tomorrow, along with new centre caps and a front carbon splitter), In 2 minds whether to get the wheel retrimmed or bite the bullet for a new one, As the Alacantra is pretty tired and the black plastic from the inner top and bottom steering wheel is also coming off,(close to the M track button),
I believe the inner wheel top and bottom cost around £300 alone, then the cost of a re-trim £150 + del + coll approx £40, Almost £500 if my prices are correct against a new wheel including top and bottom trim for £690 inc Vat, Finally I need new wheel bolts as mine are rusty, BMW quoted me around £80 for a full set, I have spotted a guy on ebay selling what look like quality M3
Bolts for less than half that price, All he sells is wheel bolts and car mats, (great feedback) Don't think they are OEM though, Certainly don't want to compromise on anything on this car, but also don't want to throw money away unecceserily so would appreciate any words of wisdom from you experts, Final question, how do the front carbon splitters get attached?
Many thanks in advance guys, Will post lots of pics when car is looking pristine.

Welcome Mr Sagman!

Sounds like you have a plan to get her looking just right again.

Regards the steering wheel refurb, my initial thoughts would be to get it re-trimmed as your price for a new wheel including plastic trims seems rather a tad optimistic as I'm sure it was more than that last time I checked.

Looking forward to seeing some pics - even though it's a slower black one...

Hi Sagman

Things I've had to do to get it to box-fresh OEM spec :

- CSL sill plates (lacquer comes off)
- CSL Gill tabs (lacquer comes off)
- Swapped the drivers and passengers upholstery to halt any wear on the drivers side bolster (diy on here for that, not too hard)
- Exhaust clamps (an M3 weakspot..eventually got a new backbox though for other reasons)
- Wheel refurb
- Refurbed splitters (also got a spare pair of the new ones...but as has been mentioned don't use them on the autobhan or they will look for a new home in a German hedge somewhere)
- Front bumper re-spray
- Paintshielded front bumper, splitters and roof (don't damage the roof !)
- I've also plastidipped the rear of my front seats to protect them as they are very vulnerable
- Subframe repair

Leaking rearview mirror is something to be aware of as can damage the interior, but I've not had that issue.

I've not head any steering wheel issues so can't really help there, but I don't think it's too hard to re-spray the trim plastic.

Hi and welcome Mr Sagman,

Congratulations on your purchase.

I got mine about 2 years ago and it had some stuff to do as well:

- Repair the interior mirror
- Change the center console around the SMG lever
- New door sills
- Refurbish the wheels
- New carbon door panel as one was cracked
- New steering wheel
- Finding OEM bucket seats as it came with some OEM BMW "sport" seats
- Rear console
- Floor mats
- Some minor painting touches - the car had some hail at one time and it had been badly repainted by some morons :banghead:
- Next, I will probably have the preventive foam injections on the subframe

- Refurbed splitters (also got a spare pair of the new ones...but as has been mentioned don't use them on the autobhan or they will look for a new home in a German hedge somewhere)

Do the splitters really fall?

I confess that they look a bit fragile, but I'v never had a problem on the Autobahn. I check them when I go out of the car though.:clown:

Kind regards,
Alex

Welcome Sagman

Your OCD is normal and comes with csl ownership! Good luck with refurbing on a budget.....non oem parts that are up to the job are short on availability. That said there's plenty of minor ancils for wheels, emblems etc on ebay and the like that are more than acceptable as replacements.

Modding will be an itch than presents itself in the future.....especially after a few meets with forum members.....there are some lovely csl's on the register that have been modded to a very high spec......

Welcome along, and congrats on the purchase

Like others, I've had the rear subframe strengthened and the mirror gel replaced as preventative measures

Many thanks for the very warm welcome guys and girls, apologies for slow reply back as I'm just coming round after our elonged Xmas party yesterday/night/ morning!! This place seems like a really friendly place with people happy to share their knowledge with a newbie like me, I need to re-confirm the dealer price for the replacement wheel and decide whether to go new or re-cover at royal steering wheels, re the damaged front carbon splitter are they easy to replace, ie are they glued on? I've already got 3 road trips booked for next year already, so the heat is on to get the car ready for action (so to speak), right where did I put those alka seltzer.

Hi Alex I'm very interested in these... Where would they be coming from? Will I have to pay import duty?
Many thx

re the damaged front carbon splitter are they easy to replace, ie are they glued on?

There are two clips underneath that hold it them on, and also the top part has lip that slides under the bumper, it's this lip on the new shape splitters that is too shallow.

The clips undo by prising a centre stud out with a flat bladed screw driver and then the plug will come out. Then you can lift them off.

Mark CSL (our glorious leader :)) might refurb them for you depending what needs doing, he has sorted quite a few on here. But he sadly no longer has his CSL :bigcry:

Thanks again guys, Iv'e started the little jobs already between torrential rain and gales.. Have managed a couple of cheeky quick blasts since I got her and can already feel the start of a very long and happy relationship, The noise is intoxicating, The car feels constantly 'up for it', Its a real thug.. But in a nice way.. I don't think they will ever make another car like this sadly.
