great video, but I'm kind of disappointed that Mclaren didn't beat the 918's time. All that aero and tech :(

I love the comment about the time but not saying what it is, typical McLaren, stunningly wonderful and they know it.

So what was the time of both cars then :)

918 is 6.57, Mclaren has just said under 7. If they beat the 918 I guess they would have been exact.

I would suspect Mclaren are just avoiding being exact, after all it keeps people talking about it that way, the secrecy is a talking point

not sure what Mclaren have planned, but everyone else states an exact time with in car footage nowadays. Even the humble GT-R Nismo managed 7.08 with 600 horses, so not sure what's the point of keeping it under wraps.

Not sure if it has anything to do with the LaFerrari.

Great vid. Clever not giving the time, wait for Ferrari to post a time and then immediately issue another vid showing the P1 going quicker. If its slower say nothing and only the inner circle know the true time.

Anyone know who the driver is?

The P1 done 6m 48 on road legal tyres. 6m 33 on slicks so it did in fact spank the 918.
official times should be out soon according to mate who works there on the F1 test program.

Wonder if Porsche will try & beat it? Fiat is keeping very quiet. So a yellow P1 on the road the other day. First impression was yuk.

I'm fascinated by the social media strategies of these various car companies and how it reflects their brand personalities. Porsche just post the video, quite Teutonic in their approach but a little superior. McLaren focus on class and heritage, with a typically English understatement at the end. Nissan just puts it all out there with commentary, not much ritz and glamour, quite fact-driven.

For those who haven't seen the Nissan video, it's here:

For my money, compared to watching the lap in the Porsche 918, Michael Krumm is really going for it. With an inferior, more cheaply made and much heavier car, he's unfathomably close to a hypercar . I've taken my GTR to the Ring, and not lifting at all in Fuchsrore doesn't even bear thinking about. What a hero.

Lovely comments!! Think you summed it up pretty good. I'm biased as I can't afford a P1. :finga::-D

At this rate in a few years we will get low 6 minute machines. :smokin:

its bonkers.

not far off the record time by bellof in the 956 from 1983 on slicks.that was a 6m 11 (nordschleife only) le mans winning dedicated sports prototype race car with ground effect, weighed well under a tonne and 650 ish bhp.

tyre, electronics, aero and engine tech have come a long long way!!

that is what progress is all about.

Whatever happens with times I'm still more impressed with Stefan Bellof.

Bellof's lap with Porsche, was, is and will be the most outrageous lap in Nordschleife that a driver ever performed!!

It's not the fastest, by any margin, but this always humbles me.
