It all started when i noticed when unlocking and locking the indicators didnt flash ??? The car is plugged into a ctek so the battery should be fine. I checked voltage and got 12.70 volts static. On starting the car 14.01 volts. I put the car under load i.e fans, lights and heaters and it dropped to 13.70 volts. I thought this looked ok.

Ive not driven the car for a couple of weeks and it drove fine. After it had warmed up the first time i give it some revs the battery light came on and stayed on. So i checked the voltage and got very similar values to above. Drove some more and the light went out. Now the indicators flash again on locking.

Ive done loads of voltage reading and i havnt had a bad one.

Ive replaced the belts and pulleys a few months back and they all look ok.

Any ideas ?

Due a bmw oil service this week on 2 year time . No warranty so bit baffled

Maybe your Ctek is buggered ? Mine died last winter, so they're not indestructible.

That's worth a check. Hadn't thought down that route. Cheers

The time to worry is when it won't start, batteries don't last forever either, just replaced mine with a big butch Bosch - sod the weight issue! ;)

If battery light came on while driving it'll be alternator. Get it checked and changed before it packs up somewhere and leaves you stranded.

It'll be sorn at the end of the month. I'll pull it apart over the winter. Yes the light has only come on when rev'ed hard. No problems starting what so ever.
I'm thinking alternator. But might chuck a battery in also.

Mine did the same a few years ago, it was the alternator. I didn't have any problems the light coming on was the only issue, it was changed under warranty no hassle

Me too.... biggest battery that the tray will accept (kept the std lightweight 1 as well though as there wasn't anything wrong with it).

I'd echo the comments re alternator. Mine started triggering the red battery warning light under hard throttle as the revs rose above 3500rpm. Similar to what you say - no other issues and the light could be kept off by driving lie Grandma. Alternator changed under warranty and no more problems :supz:

Cheers. Cars of the road for winter now but looks like a new one will be required.
It's been plugged into the ctek for a month. Started it today and kicked in as normal. So battery must be OK ????
