The E46 M3 CSL is a special variation of the standard E46 M3 coupe that features numerous lightweight components, as well as a myriad of drivetrain, chassis and cosmetic enhancements. The "CSL" moniker denotes "Coupe Sport Lightweight" and was first used on the 3.0 CSL homologation special in 1971. A total of 1,383 E46 M3 CSLs were produced to European specification between June and December of 2003 in both left-hand drive (841 built) and right-hand drive (542 built) configuration. (This figure excludes an additional series of at least a dozen pre-production M3 CSL prototypes built between September of 2002 and February of 2003.)

Were there less black ones because nobody wanted them as it was well reported that they were an inferior version of a silver car ??

40% in black overall - that is surprising, although a lower percentage in the UK

1M numbers, if anyone is interested. 4 times as many cars as the CSL, but retaining values so well.

From M Registry,

UR91 (European-spec, LHD): 4,155 produced 03/2011 through 06/2012
UR92 (European-spec, RHD): 1,204 produced 03/2011 through 06/2012
UR93 (North American-spec, LHD): 983 produced 03/2011 through 12/2011

of the 1204 RHD Euro spec cars UK got 450 units

How Many left shows 389 as at Q2 2013, with 11 SORN for same period.

Total no of cars = 6342

I had no idea they made that many. To put it into perspective for me, that's 60% more than they built of the 3.8 E34 M5 over a 4 year period

I asked my wife and she said black is best...

Not sure she was talking about the car though:mad:

In all, a total of 1,370 E46 M3 CSLs were produced to European specification between June and December of 2003 in both left-hand drive (841 built) and right-hand drive (529 built) configuration.
(This figure however does not include more than a dozen pre-production prototypes that were built between September of 2002 and June of 2003.)
Of the 529 RHDs 125 were SB and 404 SG, no special colours were available, you had to take it or leave it!

As can be seen a rare beast, just in case anyone wanted to know

You might want to adjust the figures, although as it's unrecorded it'll probably be in the classifieds quite soon.
