How easy to fit if you are at a trAckday?

Easy mate.
Front. Wheel off. Undo sensor. Wiggle out. Follow wire up to connector plug behind plastic cover. Undo., refit in reverse order.
Rear. Wheel off. Undo sensor, wiggle out. You need to drop the plastic cover under car near jacking point to access plug. Undo. Refit,
Making sure you refit wire in clips afterwards.

Is it best to carry two or are they the same part?
Do faults have to be cleared for it to work properly?

It needs a software reset, as the new sensor needs to be asigned to the ECU.

Wheel speed sensors are not assigned. They are just plug and play

When my light came on on mine (after the power dropped below a specific voltage), it needed reassigning even though it wasn't changed. It just refused to recognise it until this was done.

i guess better to have one (are they the same front and back)

So yours was nothing to do with wheel speed sensor failing and needing replacing?
It was due to battery voltage dropping and needed fault codes erasing, and nothing to do with assigning a specific sensor?

Yes indeed. However, I was under the misapprehension that if it failed, it would trigger the dash lights and therefore an error log that would need resetting in the same way.

Fronts are sided, rears are the same both sides (but different to front)

On my car (again it wasn't a failed sensor), but when the light triggered, the only thing that it did was disable the traction control and ABS. Surely if the sensor failure does the same thing, it wouldn't be a problem for a driver of you calibre ;)?

No. Drive off and they are picked up. Then light usually goes out.

I was told by Gareth there are three sensors 2 front and 1 rear, where are you getting yours from and how much as mine keeps playing up at the moment and I have just ignored the light for the last year.

It might just need the a software reset :). Toughy bought a new sensor as he thought one of his had gone as well - turned out it needed the same reset as mine and nothing more.

The ABS unit knows they are there without the wheels moving so no need to do this IME.
Running the MK60 ABS standalone now

Yep one of mine was knackered. I bought two from BMW at around £100 each. I only replaced the knackered one and keep the other side for when that one gives up.

Did your mate have to reset / reconfigure the software to recognise it like he did mine, or did the lights go off by themselves :)?

Mike he cleared all the faults and put out the lights but I had about 1/2 a dozen different ones illuminated. Didn't take the same length of time as yours that's for sure. I seem to remember him saying your car was not recognising the sensor its self so that was causing an issue.

call it Khama, but had this light come up today (just yellow brake light, this is image from google)
Any guesses before I gets it fault code read on Monday?

Yep gonna check fluid and check callipers for any weaping nipples.
Can the rear handbrake stick or could the disconnected pad sensors trigger this?
_Nathan_

Think the switch is on the handbrake itself rather than at the back so the mechanism sticking wouldn't cause the light?
Check pad sensors haven't come loose and been ripped off \ damaged too (assuming you run them zip tied to the struts?).

What I was thinking as both shocks were removed this week.

Can't wait to see what the 4 ways are like, gonna be difficult to know what has made the different though!

No, Nigel stripped both front shocks, one had seized due to being parked up too long after rain I guess.
You'll hate the 4 way until you manage to get it set up. Luckily you'll have help. Then it will be lovely :)

Had a look at both sensors and NSF has a couplke of dodgy looking bits but seems ok really. Ill have to get both sensors monday and see if it cures it.
Fluid is to the top still.

I think the bottom light is the hubba bubba warning light mate.
Impacts forward visibility....hence warning.
Fix is to lower drivers window and launch chewy out of car.

Shimmy don't forget to leave ignition in second position and just wait 10-15 secs for the light to go out its self that resets the pad sensor wear indecators you might try that first if they have boon unplugged and not plugged back in properly
That light usually indecates from pads are worn!!!

Cheers, saw that on YT.
I've taken off front wear sensor as even if not faulty, it looked a bit dodgy. I'll replace Tuesday and reset and see what's what. I'll buy the rear as el just incase.
Not pad wear as they are not connected to the RS29 :)

Yes but if you have a faulty sensor and it causes the light to come on, if you fit a new sensor the light will usually not go out until either a, you erase the fault codes or b, drive the car.

I agree the light should go out after driving because it sees no fault!!

picked up a nice shiney new front sensor today from a friendly face and plan to fit it tomorrow morning and see if the fault goes away on the brakes

I guessed looking at condition.
If it don't fix it, it's in stock and 3 minutes away.
Now go put out some fires!

Will have look at mine this weekend see If I can do the same thing.
As for fires not seen one for three weeks, since another pub went up in smoke (Tumble dryer on standby over night). ;)
