Hi guys,
Can anyone confirm this noise on their car?
It was not apparent a few days ago on mine, maybe something linked to the recent cold weather kicked it in?
It is a whining noise, similar to a pump, linked to the engine RPM, (doesn't matter if in gear or not)
Short video, you have to listen carefully but you can hear it whining up and down

Is radio on?
Sounds like interference, heard it on a few cars before now with bad radio wiring install.
Is it in the cabin?

no radio on, no a/c on.
I do have aftermarket hifi speakers with subwoofer and amps. Could be background coming through as you said philo.
It didn't do it today. Very strange. Replaced the alternator about a year and a half ago I think... would be surprised for it to go out again!

well well well.... Alternator just died on me today. Left me standing on chelsea embankment for almost 2 hours. Lucky it didn't happen on the bridge. Guess the prognosis was correct!
I all of a sudden got red battery light and 5 mins later it was gone.
Wonder what courtesy car ill get.

To be fair Shim, there was a significant time when only M techs were driving your car.

I had one let go and got about 50km warning till the battery died, so managed to get to a garage in time. A second one went quickly, with only minutes of warning, if that. Battery tested and ok. Can be dangerous, glad to hear you were able to pull over safely. Whining noise noted!
