Not 100% sure on that  but... E39 facelift M5 is up there among the great M's
Superb build quality, 5 litre V8 :smt055 and 6 speed manual G-box... what's not to like ?

I only got rid of mine last year after eight years ownership. It was written off by some old biddy who 't' boned me. Beautiful car in a better colour (Carbon Black) than Silverstone Blue  . I miss her (not the old biddy:)) and am even beginning to think that I should get the e90 M3 V8 4.0L, which although a 5 series was bigger than my M5 from the outside at least.

Beautifully comfortable especially on long runs. The only downside being as 'The Shimster' says, fuel consumption. More than compensated for by the torque and V8 rumble.

My oil consumption dropped after a while an then only used to drink a bit more once into regular 100-120s
