Ok not the long anticipated (or did I dream it was happening?) 10 year article but an article on 44 of the best cars to buy for appreciation and specialness. It's a very positive few lines on the CSL & only the CSL, 996 GT3RS and mid '90's Diablo got the full 5 out of 5

If you're not a regular EVO reader I would just have a nose in smiths, its a tiny piece

Blink and you'd miss it - for those who haven't seen it, this is what it says:

'Future Icons'

"BMW M3 CSL 2003-2004
New £58,455 Now £26K-£33K

There are people paying upwards of £75,000 for E30 M3 Sport Evos, but an E46 M3 CSL could be yours for just £25K.
The original M3 has unmatched motorsport pedigree and was built in tiny numbers, but just 422 right-hand-drive CSLs came to the UK and it really is a special car.
It’s already an Icon but the prices haven’t quite caught up yet. . .
Investment Rating: £ £ £ £ £"

That should start a relaunch of the 'Questors' grab them while you can!
Note: Hexagon don't advertise on 'PistonHeads'.

Also, most of the editorial is taken up by Nick Trott talking about why he eventually didn't buy a CSL in the end and bought a retro 911 instead.

good car, not neccesarilly the pick of the aircooled 911's ... it & the CSL are very different

I'm lucky to have both a 1973 2.4S 911 & a CSL .. If I could only have one, the CSL would go ( very reluctantly I've got to say ). The 911 is way more involving & fun on the road .. the CSL is in another league for enjoyment on the track though

May be a daft question - but is the difference in involvement down to the CSL's SMG?

No not really ... the 911 just has more feedback everywhere, you feel part of the car , yet the suspension is supple ... the steering is loverly & you can feel everything back through it ... the noise is pure 70's 911 race car ( just listen to LeMans the movie & you'll know what I mean ) , ...the engine in my S is a real revvy & cammy motor with the power really coming in around 5000rpm ..... its the sum of everything that makes each drive fun , wether going for a tour , or ringing its neck . Ultimately it gets under your skin .

The CSL is also great in a different way,... I love the CSL and can see me keeping for a very long time .

Its fun on the road and a bit more playful than the 911 , but I'll be honest, having only taken it on track the once, thats where it all made sense. The only critisism ( & even then its only minor & might sound like its an issue when it isn't ) I have of the CSL is its steering feel , just a bit too light feeling , doesn't really weight up with not a huge amount of feedback , just lacks that feel through your fingertips thing..... I think the SMG actually adds to the CSL experience

Interestingly , my wife loves the 911 & will happily passenger me in it across Europe etc .... where as she is not a fan of the CSL thinking its too noisy & uncomfortable ! might be someting to do with full throttle gear changes in S5 :-D

I think you can get a bit more feel/weight in the steering by fiddling with the suspension geometry. I had my car aligned a while ago, they put it on on less aggressive front camber settings, and the steering was a lot lighter afterwards. I'm thinking of having it put back again actually.

I definitely agree re SMG adding to the CSL's experience, particularly on track.

Try DSC Off, Setting S6 on the missus, lol!

On race/lowered suspension with aggressive front camber of -3.5 it feels heavier than standard :smokin:
