Good morning chaps & chapettes!

Looking for your wealth of knowledge to help me out here. I removed the wheels from my M3 before selling up a while back in the hope I'd own another one day, but now having bought a house and had a child in the last 6 months this isn't looking likely so opted to put my CSL wheels up for sale.

Now I checked the part numbers with BMW who confirmed to me these were genuine so I proceeded to advertise them, since doing so it has come to light they may or may not be on information given to me by people who were interested in them.

First question - the part numbers, 2282650 on the front seem to be right and have been confirmed by BMW. 2282660 on the rears, also confirmed by BMW as genuine as these were superseded by 2282999 which I believe happened when the CS Competition pack was produced? I have called them again today and they are adamant that these are genuine but a potential buyer is not... Can someone please confirm?

Second question - if the above is correct and these are deemed genuine by part numbers, can someone confirm if they all had 'BMW' stamped on them between the centre cap & M Sport badge or is this something else that was started when they changed to the 999 part number as mines don't appear to have the BMW stamped in this area? I asked BMW the same question who said that the fact these wheels were made by BBS not all of the CSL wheels made had this .... Are they fobbing me or is this true and they are genuine?

Any help would be appreciated as I don't want to be falsely advertising never mind selling someone a set of wheels that aren't genuine and can re-value these properly.

Morning Dean
Have you tried to weight them ? IIRC GENUINE rear 9.5J wheel only should be between 10 - 11 kg each. Here are a couple of pix of my early GENUINE 9.5J rear, part number: 2282 660 with original paint finish weighting in @ 10.6 kg without the centre cup. If yours are considerably heavier that may point at them being non genuine. Worth a try. BTW mine do have the BMW stamped on them.

I haven't tried weighing them, that could be the definite factor! Here's a couple pictures of mine with the 2282660 part number but with no BMW stamp.

One thing I just noticed is there is a slight (and I mean very slight) difference in the way the part number numbers appear on both wheels. If you look closely on mine there is a distinctive gap between the first 2s, as in 2 282 660 ... where as on yours it appers more like 2282 660 , if you know what I mean ;)
I think it's best if you get them on the scales

Do they have BBS on the rear? They are probably genuine BBS items but sold as aftermarket so won't have the BMW on the front.....
Also look for the standard date roundel on the back too it'll be about 1/2" diameter and have something like 03 (2003) etc...

Great :( thanks for the feedback guys all be it not ideal feedback.

I shall check for BBS mark, date mark (today) and also get the tyre taken off and weigh the wheel (tomorrow) - think we all have an idea that it's not going to be the ideal outcome for me eh?

Sorry mate but reps all day long.

All the genuine wheels have the BMW under the M emblem.

Surely if BBS make the CSL wheels they cannot be far off the original specification unlike some cheaper copies - ?? Is weight the only difference between BBS BMW CSL wheels and BBS copies?

Reproductions and not BBS I suspect. Im not sure BBS make CSL rims for sale and they def will not put BMW numbers on them

Agreed, the lack of "BMW" clinches it, and I'm pretty sure they won't be made by BBS either.

The replica makers can put the real BMW part numbers and other stuff on there as they are "just numbers", but BMW's legal department have zero sense of humour about anyone using BMW trademarks (as those of us who were on the BM3W forum probably remember....).

If I recall correctly, my (genuine) wheels also have BBS stamped on the back in a cutout somewhere ? For the same reason as above, I'd be surprised if yours are stamped with BBS.

I'm beginning to think this is an annual question, as it pops up fairly frequently?

BMW CSL Wheels manufactured by BBS, have the 'BMW' on the front of the wheel. Two ways of getting these wheels one on a CSL the other over the counter at a dealers or very occasional on a well known auction site.

BBS 'CSL' Wheels manufactured by BBS don't have the 'BMW' branding, all markings on the reverse of the wheel are the same, (as in Marks pic above) but it is an aftermarket part and not sold by BMW through their dealership parts depts. hence the absence of the BMW logo.

If it doesn't have the reverse BBS markings it's a replica!

Doesn't look like good news for me - has wheel sizes, etc etc but no BBS marking, nor does it have the BMW under the M Sport. Bollocks!

Thanks for your help everyone I shall now go away and re-advertise them properly following this. Anyone know how much these are worth now it's been established they are Shan reps? Lol. :)

I would think £200 as a new set is around £400
