I have finally signed up with ADAC (Association Deutsche Automobile Club - ?) who are partnered with the AA for UK breakdowns but will obviously cover you when driving abroad on the 'Plus' membership at least. It is Euro 79.50 (GBP ~ 68.58) for individual membership or Euro 98.70 for you and your 'partner' (so 'man trains' included).

Here is the website: http://www.adac.de/mitgliedschaft/adac_membership/default.aspx and as you cannot apply online this is the telephone number - +49 22 147 271013 . They will put you through to an English speaker so there may be a short wait (actually the first time I was waiting for 16 minutes and gave up). In actual fact if you have a basic grasp of German I am sure you can do it with a German speaker. As long as you have the German name for the package then they just require name, address, and card number.

All in all they seem to be a lot cheaper than RAC/AA et cetera once you include driving and recovery abroad.

I have heard good things about ADAC .. a lot of the classic Porsche owners have cover from them for europe

I should really, as I've got 3 cars , all with individual breakdown cover provided by my insurance companies

Agree, excellent value. I actual forgot to renew this year, which I need to sort out again so this is a bit of a reminder, ta.
The Big plus is you are covered with ADAC should you breakdown or nip the Armco at the Ring, so no recovery guy turning up & charging what he thinks you can afford to pay. IIRC it's the only company that recovers at the Ring anyway.
Also, it covers you as a driver so it doesn't matter whenever or whatever you drive. Think it may even cover the vehicle that you are a passenger of??
