Ok I give in, I'm sure there was a Steering Wheel Cleaning thread/sticky but can't find it.

I'm sure i've missed something obvious but maybe someone has it bookmarked. I though it was GlenDog wot did it and it mentioned products etc...

For me, warm water with dilute and mild detergent.

An clean old T shirt, and then dab (don't rub) the wheel.
Don't get the wheel to wet and dry as you go along.
You will be surprised how much muck comes out and how the colour improves!

Warm water, Squeeze of some lemon juice and a micro fiber. Perfect every time. This is if you want to save money.

You can also you race glaze alcantara cleaner or BMW's own alcantara cleaner spray with a microfiber cloth.

Did someone not pull the wheel off, remove all the gubbins and drop it in a basin with a warm soapy solution and let it soak a while before rinsing it off a few times?

I use the Raceglaze stuff and yes, it was Rob that posted it. Watch the trim pieces though as it removes the grey from those too of rubbed too hard.

I think the raceglaze stuff is crap, and second that the BMW Alcantara Cleaner (http://www.bmw.co.uk/en/topics/owners/accessories/accessoryDetail.accessoryId=8027.html) is a better option.

Its good on alcantara, and also on carpets as mentioned below. I coincidentaly just finisehd detailing the 125 (my daily), which has light beige carpets. They were filthy and and came up like new. It's a foaming cleaner, and does tend to go a bit everywhere, so its worthwhile covering other trim with an old towel. Was about 10€ a can at my local stealer, which I think is good value.

For the record, I reckon the raceglaze cleaner makes the alcantara too damp, and requires so much rubbing that it ends up making the alcantara go bobbly long term. Not to mention that it eats the trim paint.

i consider myself an expert in this :) done many alcantara wheels in various grubby states...

1) Warm Water and Lemon Juice. For the grubbiest matted wheels dilute 1/4 as MAX. Normal is 1/8
2) Moisten microfibre with solution and rub gently, section a time.
3) Use a soft bristle toothbrush for nooks and crannies
4) Dry down with a clean microfibre, no rubbing on wheel, place cloth, maintain pressure and repeat.
5) Be very careful with Lemon Juice solution around Plastic Wheel centre, does remove paint if rubbed against it
6) Allow wheel to dry for 24 hours
7) Shave with Lint Remover/Beard Trimmer to remove fuzzies as required. Takes a while as you need go slow, I find beard trimmer better. (Obviously the shave method will only really work once or twice in a wheels life before it goes bold)

Et voila, worked for me on Audi, BMW, Merc etc etc. All looked ace afterwards, unfortunately no pictures other than my current one.
