Have been looking around the forum for a couple weeks now so thought I would officially say hello.
was taken out in a csl a couple weeks back and it shook me to the core very impressed :supz:!!
Problem is now I want one but had my mind set on either a Porsche 911 (996) turbo or a nice low miles 4s.
Has anyone had the csl and went Porsche or vice-versa??
Any info much appreciated cheers :)

I came from a mildly modified Porsche 996 turbo ( 520 bhp) into the CSL ( I also still have a '73 911 as I'm a huge Porsche fan)
The turbo was daft quick. You never get bored of the acceleration :thumbs: . Great car for long journeys & for throwing around the Yorkshire B-roads. More steering feel & feedback than the CSL too ......... but ultimatley the CSL is more fun to drive , you can play with it more. It also feels much more special & more of an occasion. The place it all came together was on my 1st visit to the track in it ... thats really given me an appreciation of it's ability ( & its ability to make me smile :thumbs: ) .
For me , I prefer the BMW . A 996 GT3 would be the only car of similar price point I'd consider it's peer .
My wife .. she thinks my CSL is a bit chavvy .... the only other cars that seem to notice it are Focus RS's , scooby's etc :hahaha:

Came from 997 Gen II C4S on a 10 plate to the CSL recently.
CSL is definately more fun to drive and possibly easier for a novice like me to drive quicker on track, probably different for a good driver to get more out of the C4S.
C4S use to get more looks of admiration, but true car nuts know how special the CSL is.
Big decider was depreciation for me, CSL will be static if not go up in value due to the limited numbers.
Nearly new C4S will lose lots, I have first hand experience of that:bigcry:

Went from CSL to 997 GT3 RS .....but never got round to selling the CSL :wink:I suppose that should tell you all you need to know.

It's especially hard if you've test driven one with the current owner sitting next to you to avoid looking too enthusiastic...or obviously lying.

That's good to hear that u still prefer the csl. I've been giving it a lot of thought and the csl is what seems to be top 8)!!
First time I have been in a car and thought yup....this is for me haha.

I'm still fairly young and have not owned a real sports car before but now that I can afford one I want it to be the right choice.
As you say don't like the idea of it losing money rapidly :bigcry:!

It was a guy that I done work for that I got a ride in his csl.
He has had a number of nice cars and bikes over the years and I asked if he would take me a spin and he said yeah no bother :thumbs:!!
I know exactly what u mean there haha.....after he took me out I made him an offer on the car, but he wasn't for selling.

I got my CSL some time ago and a couple of years ago got a 996 GT3 to go with it. The Porsche is definately more in your face (mine is a lairy colour) whilst the CSL is a little more covert. I am still not sold on paddle shift (I shall take cover for that comment) but am loathed to get rid of the CSL and then regret it as many have. Again the CSL has other advantages like being able to take four wheels in the back to the Nordschleife or my bike and of course other passengers relatively comfortably.
I am not sure if a C4S would really compare. I think the turbos are four wheel drive too but will have that straight line speed if that is what you want.
Will it be a track car, a weekend car or something to commute in - ?
Try and drive both and then decide what you want it for and how practical it will be for its intended use. I would also add that I think that Porsche are slightly more expensive to run which you should also bear in mind.

Don't want to flame anyone owning a 996 Turbo, but frankly from my experience they aren't all that. Better getting a NA Porkie if you really must Porkie. With regards to your question they are quite different. You may be better served in asking the question GT3 to CSL and visa versa.
Can't help you on the GT3 yet because they were all manual and the mrs could not drive it so never got round in picking one up. Will let you about the new GT3 with PDK later though. ;)
If you like to work the drive I think a GT3 would be more rewarding, but if you want some degree of practicality and near GT3 (I'm going to get egged here I know) performance, CSL all the way.
With regards to your previous choices, they are very different machines to the CSL in just about every way.

Was out another run in a csl today ( big thanks mark 👍) so it's basically mind made up.... It's a csl for me!!

Yeah it was. He ain't selling now...well not for another year so I was told lol.
Want to hang off for a few months anyway so I can get my garage built.
don't forget to get some nice brake pads like PF pads / upgraded brake fluid like ATE blue and a non-stock exhaust for initial fun.
More crazy stuff you will need to ask the other lads on here. :beer:

Will likely go bbk or pads, lines and fluid to help with braking. The standard exhaust is fine as I prefer engine noise :-D!!
