Anyone on this forum? They ask for VIN Number to register. Seems a bit excessive doesn't it?

Think about it - prevention is better than cure! If you've got one you get in, if not you have to go elsewhere.
Isn't that the general idea behind the introduction of the Owners Vault, to afford owners a degree of privacy?

Same, although admin emailed me few days back to say they are open for business again and taking on new members so registered. Got to the VIN number bit and didn't expect to have to share my VIN on a public forum.
What exactly would they need a VIN for?

I don't approve of the practise but there are easier ways to get M3 CSL VIN numbers and is not hard at all is easy ....

They don´t share the VINs to the members. They only want the VIN, to proof that you are an M or Alpina-owner.
And, you really have to describe in a few words, why you want to be member in m-forum.de and how you plan to participate! Then your membership will be approved or maybe declined. Sounds strange, but don´t you are put off. It is a big forum with lots of members and big knowledge. Very helpful also and a good tone of voice. Maybe because of these and some more strict rules.
Unfortunately, there only are threads in german language, no english section or something similar.
