US Steel Gray so not changing it. We had the color here for two years so not going to change it.
I can post the full conversion here as it is more than just body parts.

very nice .. but why the CSL badge ? Its like all the superb Porsche 964 'RS' conversions , usually better than the real thing, but then spoiled when they are badged as an RS ... the car is great in its own way, shame to label it as a fake

Applying a badge has no bearing on a CSL (the badge was optional, you either chose to have one or not when the initial order was placed, this resulted in quite a significant number remaining un-badged)
So I don't really see the point, just a waste of a badge, if I'm being honest! IMO it would make more of a statement without!

I already know posting here will get the most flack of any group about the badge. The badge was a full vanity addition as I noted in the build thread. It will always be a controversial addition but to each their own, like slamming the car to the ground.
State side we get shafted from getting all the great cars, CSL in point. To take the time, effort and funds to make a conversion with all the OE bits and not just cosmetic is rare (or insane depending on who you ask). Then again I went with upgrades and CSL owner could do as well.
Love or hate the badge I never claim to be a real one. I always tell people as close as real as we can get in the states. I have done my best to keep the build in class for the M3 and the CSL.
So wit that, fire away and hate or enjoy the time and effort to make something we never had here in the sates.
10 years of ownership thread.

This work come from a passionate guy. That is the essential.
The CSL badge seems to me more strange due to the car color in fact ...

I find it interesting though BMW only allowed 2 colors for the CSL and 3 for the 1M. I will keep my 1M white but it is interesting to see those who own either car that have done full paint jobs not wraps.
I believe recently someone did a CSL in red and don't forget the 1M owner who painted the car dakar yellow.
why it is not possible to import an CSL to USA?

Emissions and crash testing keep a lot of "fun cars" out of the states. In this case it was emissions that prevented the CSL from coming over from what I have read.
There are 2 CSL in the states that were brought in through puerto rico. As puerto rico is a US teritory there is ways to get them in but it is not easy.
So in order to have a CSL in the states you have to make it.
crasy, emission.... an at every corner V8 pickups

I have watched that car as well. Very well built and love the color. I will say though he is cheating as it is far easier to get parts in Europe than US, Australia, and elsewhere.

I believe there are no more roofs and intakes for the CSL. If there are some they are locked away is some secret warehouse.
Some of the guys here state side are trying kicking themselves for not getting them when we could.

Who said they couldn't get them in the States, whilst trawling the tinternet earlier today I found this, too nice for Salford Quays and Palm Trees in Docklands - I don't think so (could be wrong):
The caption reads:
"The seller of this 2003 BMW M3 claims that it is one of 843 left hand drive factory CSL lightweight M3′s built, of which none were ever allocated to North America.
Sure, every SoCal teenager now has these rims and the CSL ducktail on their M3, but there is something very special about the genuine article loaded with carbon fibre.
Find it here on eBay in Miami, Florida).
Obviously nothing stops them being sold once they're in, the link is dead, 'Car now Sold' but just goes to show where there's a will there's a way!

See post 13, there are two brought into the states through puerto rico. The one you posted is one of those. The other is black and is in NY I believe. Issue it that is very long, and $$$ process. Based on math it is cheaper to buy all the real parts then install them.
Another issue is registration with DOT and then local state DMV.
But yes if there is a will there is a way. In 20 years form the last production date we can directly import them here. I bet you anything you will see a few of them disappear from over there and end up state side.

There are more than 2 in the States, but I'm not at liberty to say how many or where they are located. :smokin:
Only another 10 years 2 months to wait then? They say that "Patience is a Virtue" but I think most will have run out of it by then.
Of the publicised 422 UK cars, there is said to be only 300 remaining as road registered, 122 have been lost in the passage of time.
Presumably this depreciation would also apply to LHD's, makes you wonder will there be any left to import, if that trend continues for the next 10 years? :bigcry:

Neil,
You say "lost", don't forget that a lot of the missing cars have been exported to other countries (Australia, South Africa, Japan and I even saw a right hand drive car registered in Switzerland).

Just to clarify 'Lost' as in lost no longer on our roads, for whatever reason; SORN, exported, written-off etc!
Known UK exported CSL's include: Australia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Germany, Latvia and Malaysia
PS: South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong had their own RHD allocations, Japan received LHD's and not as most of us would have assumed RHD's. (they must have turned ambidextrous!)
